New York needs a big musical to get excited by, it’s been a while.

To my knowledge, Paddington is already marked for the St. James in the fall. Titanique is only there to build up some buzz and awards clout before going off on tour and they aren’t spending the money to extend and do all-star recasting. The St. James is ATG’s prime musical real estate, so I can’t imagine them pushing it off to the other side of 8th Avenue.
Also, had there not been a pandemic and MR ran straight through from open to close - it would have surpassed Kinky Boots in terms of total number of performances. Roughly 80 weeks (460 performances) were lost to the pandemic, so if you add that to their final total, they would’ve closed at roughly 2705 performances instead of 2265.

Paddington would work better in the Hirschfeld. it’s intimate and they can replicate the proscenium decorations in the house with the box seats. My only question is who would be brought over from the London company. My guess is they will have to wait and see how they do at the main awards season (I.e Olivier Awards) before announcing a transfer. My guess is they’ll bring James Hameed, Bonnie Langford, and possibly Victoria Hamilton Barret over with the rest being Americans.

Throwing it back to the start of it all.
Congrats to everyone who has played a part in this highly successful Broadway run.
Au revoir, MOULIN ROUGE! New York loves you until your dying day.

Not everyone is in mourning though. Posted by Julius Anthony Rubio, ensemble and Santiago cover from COVID reopening through mid 2023.
Text Readout: GOOD RIDDANCE TO THE SHOW AND COMPANY MANAGEMENT THAT LEGIT MADE ME QUIT THE INDUSTRY.
(Genuinely Sad for all the cast/crew involved and all but also let's keep it truly real of how HORRIBLE this place treated me and SO MANY OTHERS)
*** Maybe now I can finally heal from everything I this place put me through after nearly 15 years on Broadway.

They could still surpass Kinky Boots if MR ends up running for another year

I didn't love this show but it was gorgeous to look at, especially the pre-show look. Also impressive how well it did after having the Covid shutdown so early in its run and stopping early momentum.

This show is going to sell like crazy in licensing, but is probably going to be put on somewhat rarely, because the music rights will make licensing the show prohibitively expensive for many companies.

If Evita does happen a transfer won't be in the Fall, Jamie Lloyd has Much Ado coming in

I just do not see this show working over here in the US. We are living in some truly insane times. Security and cost plus dealing with getting a permit to shut down a street 8x a week. I’d love to see Evita, but it just seems really, really challenging to pull off in NY.

Flash back to Sunset’s first performances in London and all the same people who are saying Evita is impossible to do in NYC were saying the same thing about the Sunset stroll.
Evita is far and above Sunset as a title in popularity and familiarity. Rachel is also a bigger celebrity than Nicole. Not saying it WILL be financially successful, but it’s far from impossible. Which if you’re keeping score at home, that’s the same odds the vast majority of new shows come into Broadway with.

I don't believe that Evita can be dead. If people can convince investors to throw their money away at 90% of what is on Broadway right now and recently it should be easy to convince people to throw money at a production that was a critical and commercial success in London.
They just need Rachel Z mainly - I agree there should be strong concerns with balcony scene safety especially because Rachel Z has become a kind of unfair target and criticism from 'the right' after Snow White, who tend to own a lot of guns stereotypically and the levels of extremism seem to be getting higher over time. However, I don't believe this is an unsolvable problem. It won't be the same but the solution can be solved with bullet proof glass assuming this is affordable (the same kind of glass they use to shield presidents so the technology must exist and be good enough?).

Interesting in that I now refuse to see anything directed by Timbers. I agree he knows how to do spectacle, but it is always at the expense of narrative coherence.

They have still been doing around a million give or take every week. I guess the stunt casting hasn’t been as good as they want? I wonder if this closing announcement could spur higher numbers at the box office and they could finish out the year? Maybe announce Aaron Tveit is coming back to close it out?
If not, ATG will have three big theaters to fill this fall, St James, Hirschfeld, and August Wilson.

Am I the only one that has no idea what the deal is with Rachel and the balcony scene? Did she fall? Was something thrown at her?

They are making it a big deal something will happen to her when she’s up on the balcony, but she walks around nyc etc (youtube) signs autographs etc to each their own

There is a difference between walking around new york, doing social media etc (often posted after the fact) and being in the exact same spot at the exact same time on the same days each week for months on end. Varying your routine is one of the basics of safety advice.
And you cant just look at the MAGA lot to blame, Rachel has some pretty hardcore/crazed fans and plenty of celebs have been stalked/harmed by 'fans' in the past
In a country where people have easy access to weapons where you dont need to get close to someone to harm them, its a concern.
You have to go through security to get in the theatre, but nothing for just being on the street. Its actually a concern for anyone performing outside like that really.
