Yes, "Release Me 2," is coming out on August 6th. All treasures from the vault. Recordings that have never been released. In the liner notes of "Release Me" from 2012, it says that on the next edition of "Release Me," it will include "Make Our Garden Grow." That was 9 years ago, so it's possible that it won't be included. Let's hope that it will.

An early yet unverified totally yet likely track listing shows no Broadway at all in the ten tracks. There will be a bonus track for Target but that’s unknown. Sigh.

Again, unverified, but the track listing is from today, out on some European LP websites - a Randy Newman, a Bacharach, legrand/Bergman, Rainbow Connection, an unreleased Guilty cut, You Light Up My Life, another song I think Bonnie Raitt covered. It’s, er, underwhelming on paper.
Yes, the Barbra & Willie Nelson duet was released today on Sirius radio from the cd. Haven't heard it yet, but really looking forward to it. Like so many other singers, Barbra's vaults are full of unleased songs. How wonderful to be able to hear these songs. Such a treasure trove, and can't wait to buy it in August!

Oh Lord, I read the title of this thread as NEW STREISAND RELEASE ME 2 - AUGUST 6, thinking the title of the new album was "ME 2" and would encompass songs related to the ME 2 (Me Too) movement...LOL. I am not in any way making light of that particular movement it's just that I read it fast...and wrong.
One of the tracks is “ Rainbow Connection “ an unreleased track from 1979’s “ Wet” album. It’s a duet with Kermit the Frog. She’s finally releasing it because she understands the demand from her fans that we’ve always wanted a Streisand/ Kermit the Frog duet since...forever.
The track list is anemic and underwhelming to me. She really could have added many more songs. I love the idea of hearing recordings from when her voice was pristine but I’m not gonna but the album. Also, she’s releasing a million different versions of the album each with a different photo print, exclusive bundles and a Target version with an extra track. She wants another #1 and she’s gonna milk her fans to get it. It’s so shady.
Tracks:
Be Aware
You Light Up My Life
I’d Want It To Be You (duet w/ Willie Nelson)
Sweet Forgiveness
Living Without You
One Day (A Prayer)
Rainbow Connection (duet w/ Kermit The Frog)
Right As The Rain
If Only You Were Mine (w/ Barry Gibb)
Once You’ve Been In Love
The version of YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE on this album is the Carole King song, not the one written by Joseph Brooks and sung by Debby Boone back in the day...

Yikes, for the record that would be Joseph Brooks who wrote the Debby Boone song -- known more infamously as a perv indicted on 91 counts of sexual assault in 2009 but committed suicide before he could be brought to trial. James Brooks, a much more talented and revered figure.

Now that Barbra is 79- who knows if she will ever record again- so I will take what I can get. Anything she records is done with intelligence and extraordinary attention to detail. I am sure there will be many gems on this collection- and I look forward to hearing each and every cut.
Wouldn't surprise me that Barbra included "The Rainbow Connection" for her grandchild. Yes, there are quite a few different colored covers that you can get from various retailers. I'll be purchasing my cd at Target for the extra song. Many singers, Barbra included, have had exclusive cds that will have an extra song, or 2 when it's bought from a certain store. That's been in effect since the mid 90's.
All artists and record companies want their cds to be successful and sell well. After all, it is a business. How is releasing a cd, and having wonderful marketing shady? Please explain.

True. Why would it be shady? Is there a Target where you are at in Vancouver?

Here’s why I find it shady and it’s not just Barbra, it’s many artists. They exploit hardcore fans and collectors. I’m totally fine with one or two different versions. Fine. No harm. No foul. However, many fans are completists. Especially devoted gay male fans.
Artists are finding all new ways to cook the books on their sales numbers to get themselves “#1” albums and it is shady. It inflates the figures. It’s not true demand.
A few years back Barbra made what I feel (I own it’s just my opinion) was a throwaway duets album. I thought it was hot garbage and auto tuned to death. She included a vocalist from every genre including a Star Wars film. It was the album equivalent of click bait. To the poster who said she pays attention to detail, I feel as though she used to. She doesn’t anymore. Today it’s about liquid cash flow.
My gripe with Babs is my same gripe with Bette. I feel both women have impeccable taste in songs but at some point as they aged and they chucked it to appeal to the masses because they no longer trusted their instrument. In the past, both women sang the most glorious songs-great story songs. They always had their finger on the pulse.
Now they just do re-treads. Babs releasing old material is actually exciting but I don’t dig the sales push. Like it said, it’s not just her doing this.
Artists now bundle albums with concert tickets and merch sales. It’s all shady. It’s not a true number one album.I know three people who ordered all the Bab vinyl variants because they want all the prints AND the box because they want the candle. If she gets to #1 it’s not on the merit of her music and that is deception and marketing not musical talent.
Lady Gaga “presold” signed posters that included Chromatica and bumped her sales figures. Well a year later no posters materialized, fans got refunds minus the cost of the download. Gaga got her #1 and fans got zip.

Thank you for this post. I agree with your opinion. You nailed it.
Thanks for your reply. Interesting way to look at it. Just like millions and millions and millions of people all over the world, I've been a Barbra fan for decades. Have all her cds, movies, books on her, etc. Have seen her in concert well over 20 times. I've never once felt exploited or anything like that.
Sure, many fans are completists - regardless on one's sexual orientation, that you mentioned earlier. Buying anything and everything related to their favorite singer. Good for them. People have a choice. They can purchase all the merchandise tie-ins, or not. Pretty simple. Just like anything in life, what's fine for 1 person, isn't fine for another. As nice as the merchandise is, I'm fine with the Target exclusive cd that has the extra song.
Over the decades I've purchased many merchandise items from Barbra's various concerts that I've seen here in the US and in Europe. Was very fortunate to have sang in Barbra's choir for her 2000 "Timeless" concerts here in Los Angeles at The Staples Center and in Madison Square Garden in NYC. As well as a concert that she performed at in August 2000 at The Shrine Auditorium here in LA, the night that Al Gore got the Democratic Presidential nomination. These experiences were just incredible. Was able to speak with her briefly during rehearsal for the Al Gore concert.
I'm a little confused by when you say Artists are finding all new ways to cook the books on their sales numbers to get themselves “#1” albums and it is shady. It inflates the figures. It’s not true demand.
Are you suggesting that people aren't really buying the cds - that there really is no demand?
Yes Neal, I’m saying if Barbra simply released AN album you would get a truer sense of the actual interest in it. One unit per person interested. If she only released one similar version that came out on CD, vinyl and cassette (the way it used to be) she would sell far fewer copies than when she releases 4 different vinyls each with a different cover and a different photographic print included and a Target specific CD with an extra track and a different cover.
It’s not gauging the popularity of a recording when you do that. It’s gauging the effectiveness of a marketing blitz. I find it shady because it truly messes with Billboard stats. A popular record by an actual musician who writes their own songs and plays their own instruments will get knocked out of number one because Dua Lupa “sold” an album to everyone who bought a concert ticket or bought two colors of vinyl and a limited edition picture disk.
Kylie Jenner could have a number one record if she bundled it with her lip gloss which she sells 10 million of in 15 minutes when she releases them.
The recording industry really needs to do something about this.
Babs is really tied to her albums opening at #1. Anyone will tell you that. She’ll do almost anything to make that happen.

Really? She has not done one thing. It is all old and or recycled work. She is now the laziest star. There will be no interviews or live/zoom performance. BARBRA has 10,000 devoted fans. They will by all versions of the release, currently at 8, that is 80,000. She is the only new release on August 6th. Hopefully she will get her 12th number 1 and 7th decade award. She has earned her right to milk us for every penny, a girl has got to eat

LOL Sure thing, dude. They'll get right on top of that pronto!

Claudia, last time I checked the girl ain’t going hungry. And unless I’m mistaken she has a distinction of her albums releasing at #1 which is why she hustles with them. I mean she had Daisy Ridley on all the Star Wars fan sites pimping that album. She is no dummy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan. I just don’t like these business practices.
In this one thread, Bettyboy72 has managed to trash five good women. Barbara Streisand; Bette Midler; Lady Gaga; Kylie Jenner; Daisy Ridley. All females, mind you. No men. Kinda makes me think Bettyboy72 is on a misogynistic rant.....and that (to use his term) would be "shade".
But whatever. I am thrilled that Streisand is releasing this album.
