JK Simmons and Nina Arianda are Fred & Ethel.

They’re playing actors William Frawley and Vivian Vance, not the characters Fred and Ethel Mertz.

I love Nina but doesn't she seem a bit too young? Nicole is in her 50s playing Ball in her 40s playing the Lucy character in her 30s. Nina is 36 playing Vance in her 40s. Vance was 2/3 years older than Ball but Kidman is 17 years older. Nicole obviously doesn't look like 54 year old woman in the 1950s but it seems like a lot more work to "frump up" Nina like Vance had to do.

I love Lucies response. Plus, she looks fabulous.
I’d MUCH a rather Cate Blanchett was still playing this, but hopefully Nicole might regain some movement in her face by the time filming starts.
I love her as an actress, but the lack of movement in her face is actually a real issue now and a major distraction. It’s such a shame.

Nicole Kidman & Javier Bardem are ready to become the Ricardos. The two Oscar winners may have found their next roles in Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, respectively.
Inspite of that, The unmoving face of Nicole Kidman playing one of television's comic actors does not compute. I think it's a perfect opportunity to give someone like Kate McKinnon a chance to break into a more prestige role.
I think JK Simmons is a great choice for Bill Frawley. Would be pretty funny to make a movie about the making of ILL and only nail the casting of Fred!

Obnoxious comment.

I agree, but i's a back and forth criticism of the material/defense of the material that will continue to plague this project based on the terrible title for the movie and the fact that while technically this will be a behind-the-scenes drama, not a remake of the sitcom, there will be scenes of the characters shooting the sitcom and thus performing (believably or not) as their sitcom roles.

I thought she was pretty good in Paddington, for what it's worth. Not sure what the direction of this movie is, so let's not judge the movie before it's even in production.
Apparently there might not be any recreations of I LOVE LUCY aside from what we will see during the table read and rehearsals of the episode they are working on that week of production. Similar to SAVING MR. BANKS which was about the production of Walt Disney's MARY POPPINS and we never saw one moment of them filming the movie. Lucie Arnaz pretty much implied this in her Facebook video. No one will be recreating/imitating Lucy or Ricky Ricardo. The film WILL have its funny moments, but plot driven.
I don’t care about the tone or recreations, etc. I just cannot believe Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball, in any capacity. Not young Lucille, not ILL, not even late in life Lucy.
Renee Zellweger did a pretty fantastic job transforming into Judy Garland. I just can’t see a similar level of transformation from Kidman.

I agree with all of this and the defensive, passive/aggressive, condescending, know-it-all responses aimed at those who are not on board with the casting are garbage.

You apparently misread what he wrote. He obviously isn’t “on board.”

I didn't misread anything. I wasn't referring to his assessment exclusively.

I feel like Elizabeth Olsen would be good as Lucille. She's such an underrated actress and she really has been showing off her facial expressions in WandaVision recently. Also she looks good with red hair.

To quote the fabulous Lucie Arnaz: “the voting is over.”
Principal photography begins April 2021.
Hoooo boy....
Only just realized how much older Bardem is now than Arnaz was in the 50’s...
Expect lots of CGI softening in post. The main portion of the film takes place around 1953 and their relationship is shown in flashbacks, which is what these photos are from. These are raw paparazzi photos and nothing like it’ll look in the actual film.
From what I have read, Lucille was not a naturally funny woman; but one who was great at following directions. Her gags on I Love Lucy were carefully planned and executed. I hope Kidman is able to capture that dichotomy between the no-nonsense woman and her outrageously funny performances.

From what’s been said, very little might be seen of Nicole as full-on Lucy Ricardo. Any hints would be during rehearsals as the film takes place during a week of production on an episode. Film could conclude right when the taping of the episode is to happen. Lucie Arnaz has stated that no one is imitating Lucy Ricardo or Ricky Ricardo, so that could be our hint.
Yeah I’m currently guessing that we either won’t see any or just very little of Lucille in character as Lucy, which based on this casting, I think would be for the best. I can see Kidman as Lucille, it’s Lucy who I have trouble seeing.
Um Nina and JK are brilliant choices. :)
Kidman would never, no matter how many years she trained, be able to embody the character of Lucy Ricardo.
I still doubt that she’ll be able to capture Lucille Ball, the person. Javier is also very oddly miscast.
The real question is, how many actors passed/weren’t available? Cate Blanchette is still an unconventional choice, but I can’t imagine that she was first choice.
JK Simmons, in my opinion, is the only decent casting decision made.
