Does Akiva know about this?

I understand the need to make Tracy an unknown. Jennifer Hudson, despite her appearance on American Idol, is basically an unknown to most of America by now and she's the lead in Dreamgirls surrounded by more famous people. You don't want the audience having any preconceived notions of the character.

But making Seaweed and Link unknowns too doesn't make much sense when, and I REALLY REALLY hate to say this, but Usher and Justin Timberlake would be fit the roles pretty well. I'm not advocating this by any means, but you've got to admit from a studio wanting to cast big names perspective it'd be pretty killer.

Thoughts?

I'm with zepka. It's hard for me to picture anyone other than Chester as Seaweed, but I can if I really try. But Usher??? NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!

Yeah I've had way more than enough of Usher...he can stay far away from movies for all I care. Justin Timberlake would bring the star quality to Link, but that's about it. He'd probably make them change the music to be more like his usual style.
"I hope you're all happy, keeping Alan off the team. Couldn't you, for once, open your minds and hearts and hear something that he couldn't see? I, for one, am glad that Alan is blind, so he can't see what, I am so sad to say, you can't hear." -Jerri Blank

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I can't make it on that Saturday! Do you think if I went on the next day and sweet-talked my way in (since it says callbacks are the next day?)

I am so depressed it isn't even beleivable.

It wouldn't hurt to show up.

Matt was perfect.
So was Harvey, Jackie Hoffman and Kerry Butler.
I also loved Brier as T Turnblad.
And without Jerry Mitchell the movie is nothing.
(HOPE they cast the adorable Rusty)

I totally agree with you about all those people. They are all people who I admire and think were amazing on stage. But as many recent films have pointed out: Perfect for the stage is not perfect for the film. If all you want is the stage version recreated on film...then why not just go see the stage version.

And Corine, you of all people love a fresh face in a breakout role (as Matt was originally, and as John Loydd Young is now). So why not hope for a brand new face to be brought to the spot light. I'm quite sure Matt won't have any trouble getting work in the future.

Next they will make a straight play adaptaion of the musical movie, based on the stage musical based on the movie.
