I saw Hedwig this past Wednesday, the 4th. He did the flying entrance, but looked a bit shaky on it. I would guess that it was his first or second time doing it since the injury. It was my first time ever seeing the show live, so I'd love to see him at 100%, if that's what he could do while injured. Everything else that was mentioned by everyone was still the same - lots of crate jokes, still using the crutch sometimes, and the carwash is still happening to someone on the stage right section of the front row, with JCM lowering himself offstage. I've never seen someone with a bad leg that's that flexible before. He lifted the bad leg almost to his head several times during the high-energy songs. Oh, and (minor spoiler alert), along with the changes for his leg, he also updated the "Sucking sound that Anderson Cooper calls a show" line. I'll definitely be seeing JCM again once Rebecca joins as Yitzhak. (Nothing against Lena, she 100% deserved that Tony and I loved her on that stage. I just won't be able to get back there until Rebecca joins.)
I never got the Phyllis Stein joke before! I must be dim.
I'm seeing the 10pm show tonight, and I'm so excited. This will be my second time seeing JCM. I was so lucky to win the lotto for his first Broadway performance. It will be interesting to note the changes and the ad libs since then!
I was planning on this being my last time at this production, but with Rebecca going in, I may have to reconsider! Updated On: 3/7/15 at 02:21 PM
@ JPeterman - OMG! How funny! We will have to look for each other! I was sad i could only get second row because, when i checked the other day, there were 3 front row center seats available for the date i wanted, but when i checked back the next day they were gone with just the seat i ended up getting in the second row. LOL. Front Row was a really thrilling experience for me but i am sure it will be just as good second row. lol. -It's funny how a certain user never fails to respond to me whenever i post with some sarcastic annoyance, but I never respond back- Dude is obsessed and creepy. HaHa
I saw the Saturday 3/7 10PM show, after seeing his second show back after his week off. He definitely has more mobility than before. He has gone back to doing the car wash during "sugar Daddy" on an audience member (in the front row right by the stage so he didn't actually go into the audience went from the stage, when before it happened to Lena. He did fly in during the beginning of the show. Also, during the change during "Wicked Little Town (reprise)" he took his knee brace off and didn't wear it for the rest of the show. He also did the curtain call in the front as it was done previously. Besides that, he is just more mobile doing some more choreography than he did before. He'll just be improving every show
I was at the same show as wdwfreak, and I too was amazed by how much JM could do. He seems to have dropped the JDate bit, doing only Grindr. I think he was ad libbing like crazy, but it's hard for me to tell what's scripted and what's actually new. He makes it all sound off the cuff! A great show.
Ah that makes me so happy to hear!! I'm going on friday and hope he is feeling alright! What percentage of the show does he actually do sitting down? I think its safe to bet he won't jump off the car before tear me down or climb the walls, but other than that does he do most of the choreography?
The Grindr bit was in the show when I saw it his opening weekend and it was hysterical! Some of those names But that's great he's getting back into it! My parents told me they were gonna get me a premium ticket after doing so well in college the last two years and as a combined present for my birthday. Then they changed their minds. I'm crushed
He does sit down quite a bit on a leather stool that looks like it's a refugee from a '60s track home. He never climbed the walls, to my knowledge. (He said from the beginning that he didn't want to do that.) Plus, he doesn't do the costume change inside the car hood during Wig in a Box. As others have mentioned, Yitzhak changes him onstage.
Sondheimite, did you ever listen to the TimesTalk that JCM and Stephen did, I guess back when the show first hit Broadway? JCM has a funny story to tell about someone who got a little too personal with him during the car wash. He didn't say the person's name, but Stephen chimed in with it! Very funny!
Macnyc, I haven't but I'll look it up now! It was a very...personal experience. He doesn't just drag the ends of the skirt over the face of the person like the other Hedwig's do. He cam all the way down on top of my face. And it was worth ever cent I spent on the tickets I payed for my date and I to have,
I had tkts for the 10pm performance friday 4/10! I want to die! It s my only week in New York! I m from Buenos Aires, Argentina and i have already bought tkts for every night in town! Seeing JCM was one of my main reasons to do this trip!
It sounds like the 4/10 10:00 show is still on. Did you get a call your show was canceled?
This surprises me. I just read an interview with JCM that said the Friday at 10:00 was his favorite performance. It brought out all the fans. It was the most boisterous. Hmmm. Maybe it's just too much for his knee? Updated On: 3/10/15 at 09:16 PM
I saw a Friday at 10 and it was spectacular. And Telecharge swore Michael C. Hall was in it already when I briefly considered getting tickets the next night and I said, no, I saw John Cameron Mitchell last night and he said, "You did? Well my supervisor said he's out."
according to Telecharge, the 10pm shows cancelled are 4/10, 4/17 & 4/24. They've been replaced with a Sunday at 7pm show.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
That's so bizarre. JCM has been pretty adamant about needing two days a week off to recover. Maybe he figures that late in his run it won't be so bad since the end will be in sight?
