Bad theater choice. Chenoweth and Hayes in a not-very-well-known show aren't going to sell out that huge theater. The marketing team certainly has its work cut out for them.

I don't know much about this show, so I can't really say that it will be good or not. What I can say is that I love both Chenoweth and Hayes and will be excited to find out how this goes. My only worry is that it's not a well known show to the masses, so it may need to win awards to stay open. And by awards I mean lots of awards. Best Actress, Best Revival, etc, some big stuff.

And with the unanimous raves rolling in for RAGTIME, the highly acclaimed, tried-and-true production of LA CAGE, and the critical darling of a production that is Nunn's NIGHT MUSIC (although who knows what he may change), a Best Revival win is an uphill climb even at this point, before any of the aforementioned shows have officially opened.

For those who have never been in the Broadway theatre or been upstairs, the orchestra is fine, the front mezz is fine, the rear mezz goes on for miles and has poor sight lines. If you are not tall and someone tall sits in front of you up there, you have a real problem.

As for the casting, Sean Hayes will be fine. The role calls for a character leading man and that is what he is. He doesn't have to dance. (Orbach was one of those musical stars who could barely move in time to the music.) Sean Hayes would also have been terrific in Bye, Bye Birdie.

It is Chenoweth who I am having trouble with. She looks great, maybe too great, and is a bit long in the tooth to be playing an elevator operator. She also needs a real belt voice, and I associate Chenoweth with a crystaline head voice. Her character, Fran, is anything but an operatic soprano and is not particularly funny.

Still, let's wish them well. Done right, this is a funny show with a great score.

I hope to be proven wrong, but I can't picture Sean Hayes singing She Likes Basketball and sounding at all credible.

I'm still surprised Cheno is taking on this role.
The male character has much more to sing, Fran has two great songs and two duets. I don't think age is a problem here, but Hayes singing could be.
And remember Mercer won a TONY that year, not O'Hara.

Can Sean Hayes convincingly portray a heterosexual male? We'll see, but he's going to have to work hard to overcome all those years as Jack. If he has a director who doesn't let him fall back on those easy laugh-getting habits of his, this might be worth checking out.

Is PROMISES PROMISES horribly overrated and dated?

The Broadway Theatre has LOTS of seats. They may have chosen it because they're planning on making the set huge since the stage is very big. They also want BIG names for THEATRE GOERS like Sean Hayes and Kristin to fill the seats.

I'll agree with everyone in saying the Broadway theater is much too big. As for the three lead dancers for TLT, Mr. Ashford better not screw this up, but my choices would be: Heather Parcells(Miss Polansky), J. Elaine Marcos(Miss Wong), Marina Lazzaretto(Ms. Della Hoya).
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

You're pure wisdom. What a post!
