Sorry to threadjack-
Craww, what is your icon pic from? Where are they?
Yep, Tonys screencap. I had plenty of caps to choose from, since I capped the entire section for this amusing gif:

i think it's the background that's throwing them off. Which looks like some old black and white phot of the grand canyon or something.
Damn it looks like Aaron is going to plant a wet one on her in that clip! And yes, I'm a little jealous.

Yeah what was that about? He didn't do that either time I saw the show.

I wanted to add my appreciation for next to normal. What an incredible production.

All i can say is I'm glad he's toned it down since Arena cause when i saw the show at Arena i left feeling REALLY uncomfortable with the level of sexuality he was portraying.
when I saw the show i didn't see the "sexuality" that everyone is talking about

Haha, I still found him pretty sexual... my dad knew nothing about the show going in but thought the sexual tension between Gabe and Diana was very obvious... do you think Aaron was directed to be so seductive? And do you think he was part of Diana's "odd and alarming sexual feelings"?
Ah, nice, Craww. Yeah, it looks like they're on some precipice!

Meh, the "odd and alarming sexual feelings" is a throw away line. At Second Stage it was "bad taste in clothes and sexual partners" Which was funny, but didn't fit the flow of the song so great.
Its clear that the relationship is Oedipal, but there's away to be Oedipal without being creeping, when I saw it at Arena it was ****ing creepy and I couldn't stop thinking "why is gabe trying to **** diana?"

I've basically been saying Aaron's a tad oversexual since Second Stage. I think it's funny that people are only agreeing with me now.
Ah, nice, Craww. Yeah, it looks like they're on some precipice!
Hah! Okay, I guess I can kind of see that? I never would have, though, because I know it's just a Photoshop brush. (Ran it around the edges, because of my obsessive compulsive desire for all my BWW avatars to blend slightly into the grey background.)
I definitely got an incestous vibe during I Dreamed a Dance when I saw it.

They start Monday performances tomorrow, correct?
That's kind of an awful schedule, BTW. A weekend of two show days, and no day to rest?

^ that does kind of suck. I noticed a little sexual tension when I saw the show but it wasn't overwhelming, imo. That .gif is hilarious, though haha if that was my only exposure to the show I would be really confused about (and disturbed by) their relationship!
POSSIBLE SPOILER **** Well, since he's not real, I don't mind the sexual tension. He is seductive...to feed her acceptance of her, to commit (attempted) suicide, all for his own "survival". There is a blurring of WHAT her desire is...but desire, is desire.
I think a lot of what we see in the clip is the angle of the camera. But...yum.

I think whatever it is everybody saw in the Tonys performance is fairly indicative of what commonly goes on at the theater. The difference, why so many people are noting some creepy incest vibe completely out of the blue, mostly comes down to context and camera angles.
People who were unfamiliar with the show had no context. People who've seen the show viewed it with a different context than they usually do, and were more prone to dissect it than they usually would. As a Tony performance we were evaluating it, in the theater we're just experiencing it.
Here is a good Q & A with Ms. Ripley focusing on her Northeast Ohio roots from the fine stage critic of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Tony Brown: http://www.cleveland.com/onstage/index.ssf/2009/06/talented_ms_alice_ripley_newly.html
A little bonus video is included from Side Show.
***SPOILERS***
I don't think there's anything sexual about the relationship Diana has with Gabe. Yes they're closer than the average mother and son, but not in an inappropriate way. During "I Dreamed A Dance" Diana is saying bye to Gabe even though she doesn't really want to, that's why they're very close during that song. The only time I sense seduction is during "There's A World" and it's not sexual seduction, it's Gabe seducing Diana to commit suicide so that they can always be together. I don't know, this can be debated forever, but this is my two cents.
Well, there CAN'T be anything inappropriate since he's not there. I think we're just saying there is a certain quality that exists. And certainly one that many wouldn't understand. Since it's in her head, it can take on all sorts of qualities.
I am seeing the show tomorrow night for my second time. I have been hearing good things about Kyle Dean Massey. I can't wait to see his take on Gabe!
Will be there as well tomorrow--- really looking forward to Massey !
I have a quick question, I figured this would be the best thread to ask. I saw a video of the song 'Feeling Electric' and i was wondering if there's a recorded version to download of that song.I really like it.
thank you :]
I didn't get a sexual vibe either time I saw the show. It wasn't until I saw people discussing it here that it even entered my mind.
Just got back from the show- Liked Massey more than I thought I would. (still missed Aaron)-
Bobby was out, and Michael Berry played Dan. That was the problem for me. The chemistry between Dan and Diana just wasnt there, and although I liked Berry's voice alot, it just didnt seem right for this score. It was almost like Javert kidnapped Dan !!
Seemed to turn rock score into an Opera.
Realized how great J. Robert Spencer is !
I like Feeling Electric, too. Is there a recording of that song? I can't find it if threre is.
