I know another post about this exists, however after a desperate search I was not able to find it.
With five months to go from tomorrow I was hoping we will get a cast announcement, at
least for the title role. Honestly I have a feeling Andy Mientus will be Peter Pan.
What does anyone else think? Really looking forward as I loved the sound of music last year.
At this rate, it really does seem like they're going to reveal it on the night of the broadcast as Peter makes his entrance.

"Isn't Julianne Hough the front runner?"
ahahahhaha really????
Why would they possibly want to announce it now? This is a TV show, not a Broadway show where they need to put tickets on sale and sell seats many months in advance. Do you plan your TV viewing 5 months in advance? 1-2 months before max is my guess. Maybe not even that. Too soon and people get excited about it and then forget about it.
Well, they did announce Carrie Underwood as Maria more than a year before the broadcast...
Why would they possibly want to announce it now?
The angle they took with Carrie Underwood was to build up momentum by announcing her way in advance and blazing a trail of promotion for months in advance in anticipation of the actual broadcast. I had assumed they would do the same thing this time, but it seems that they have no interest in doing that this time. I wonder what angle they will take this time around?
I'm also surprised they haven't announced anything yet.
There also haven't been any casting notices up for this either. Seems kind of strange :/
This time last year, they had already released Carrie's photograph in costume. The Sound of Music was well marketed.
I just have a feeling that since Andy Mientus was a regular in Smash, doing well
in his first Broadway debut and really looks the role.... he might be considered.
Who knows, maybe we will have to wait till Peter flies into the nursery?
^^ He isn't a really famous name. Julianne Hough would make a lot more sense, although I have no idea if she can sing or not.
Yes but Julianne Hough is a woman, didn't Robert Greenblatt said they're going to cast
a male actor for the lead?
Well if I is going to be a male actor I have two suggestions....
For a big name draw James Maslow but for B'way experience Santino Fontana
"didn't Robert Greenblatt said they're going to cast
a male actor for the lead?"
Where did you hear that?
A huge part of the long lead marketing strategy of THE SOUND OF MUSIC was that it was an 'unprecedented live event' -- as a follow up, NBC will have to come up with a different angle to sell PETER PAN. There would be audience fatigue if they were doing the same kind of publicity push for it this far out.
I would say its pretty likely that NBC has honed in on a star and that they will announce it at a carefully selected time.
The notion that NBC wanted a male actor stemmed from nothing more than a very off hand comment by Greenblatt when the project was first announced. He alluded to the idea that that they 'might' consider going after a male star, but it was a very vague statement and I'm sure not something you can hold the network to.

Here is an article saying that Greenblatt stated the role will likely go to a male
actor.

The executive noted that the central role of Peter -- traditionally played by a woman -- would likely go to a male actor.
I really do hope that they won't cast a mid-twenties guy to play a 13 year old.
Sorry but actors mentioned makes no sense.
For those that care: Foy will be doing the flying.

Umm...Mientus makes the least sense of all of them, yet you named him anyway.
"I really do hope that they won't cast a mid-twenties guy to play a 13 year old. "
So you recommend a 27 year old?
You clearly don't know this version if you think they are casting a 13 year old.

Whoever they cast as Peter Pan will end uo being a really big name, so Mientus is definitely a no.
Not necessarily. As others here have suggested, Pan could be a nobody and they could cast Hook as the named star. Lets face it, there aren't too many 12year olds that are big names.
Big names could be cast for Hook and other supporting actors like Smee. I do think that casting Peter is going to be challenging for there aren't a lot of Big names
who are teenagers.
On the other hand I still can't understand why some think that Meintus is a no. He was a regular on Smash which was done by same producers, and really doing well in Les Miserables. True he's 27, but he looks younger and truth be told really looks the part.
