Diana is famous out of the tween set. More people watch American Idol then just tweens.
Who cares if they've been heard of or not? Tina, Felicia, Amy, etc. are more than capable actors. They are all perfect in their roles. Whatever happened to talent in this industry?

While Adrianne Curry *possibly* being in WS does make me nervous, instead of sitting her bashing her without know her abilities, I think we should be hoping that Felicia's injury is healing and that producers don't feel the need to get rid of her.

It's still there. But used less and less.
If it can't bring in the cash...producers don't see it as a worthy venture.
Which is why the thought of producers trying to replace Benanti, who is probably one of the most talented young women on Broadway and is a perfect Julia, with a larger name is just disheartening.

Now, I understand a broken rib is serious, but if she's doing 8 shows a week and is able to function on her own without pain, she must be feeling better.
This thread is beyond ridiculous, produce a few musicals before you presume to know what a show "needs" or does not need.
and once again the irony is staggering

I happen to love Adrianne. So don't say she doesn't have a following because she does have a lot of fans.
I can't say I'd love to see her in a musical.. but I do like her.

1) Diana is pretty darn well known--she definitely sells tickets.
2) I don't think Diana should be considered stunt casting anymore. Have you seen what homegurl can do on stage? DANNNG. She's been in 2 shows (well, 3 I guess) and she has proven herself to do really well in parts as challenging as Brooklyn). She is a very flexible actress and she can play several parts.
Diana was invited back to Hairspray, wasn't she? The producers probably wanted her back because she brought in more ticket sales, don't you think?
First of all, we have no idea if she can or cannot pull it off, she seems at least to be sincerely interested in it and not just doing it as a career move.
Second of all, she will boost ticket sales just because tourists will see posters and such advertising her and think, "Oh, this girl was on some TV shows, and she's in The Wedding Singer, let's go see her so when we get home we can tell everyone we saw a TV star in a show!" You know it will happen. So she won't be stellar - but maybe she will, none of us have any way of knowing, but she'll boost ticket sales and help keep the show running.

referring to muscle, im definitely apart of the group of guys that would see it just to drool over her...i wouldnt drool though, i would run up the steps to the stage and hug her! :)
but anyways, i think it would be cool if she did this
i will be upset if she replaces Felicia, though...

"Are you related to her, by any chance? You seem to have the same last name, if Jimmy Curry is even your real name."
Er, maybe he's just a fan of 110 in the Shade...?

Let me start by saying I AM an Adrianne fan. I think its wrong of you not to give her a chance. I have never heard her sing or seen her dance BUT I trust the PROFESSIONALS to gauge her talent. She can act however so say the director and producers of her upcoming film "Fallin Angels" which also stars the KINGS of the horror movies..jason,freddy tinhead, in new character roles.
Incase you didn't realize it. The Wedding singer needs a BOOST in ticket sales. They average 60%-65% attendance in the house per week. No Offense but no one outside of the small number of Broadway peeps even know who she is. Adrianne on the other hand can get PR for the show. After all the show finale had 2 million viewers with about 1 million per wekkly episode. Its safe to say she has a following. You will see this on ET E! Access Hollywood etc. Number will go up.
Adrianne and Constantine will bring much need younger crowd to the show not to mention the curious and the tourist.
I think it's sad that so many shows can't stand on their own without bringing in a 'celebrity'.
There are thousands of actresses who are dying to make it on broadway. Yes, Adrianne will attract tourists, but then why even start of with broadway actors? Why not just start your show off with celebrities so right away you know you can't fail? //sarcasm.
Constantine is a singer/actor who was featured in a show with a lot more than 2 million viewers, usually actors, singers and musicians have followings, models don't. I mean I have always had a crush on Claudia Schiffer, but if they cast her on Broadway, it'd be weird, I went to see her movies and she can barely act. Also Miss Curry is not a supermodel and she is not as known as Tyra Banks, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi, Linda, Giselle, etc. Not even a celebrity with press coverage like Haylie Duff.
I highly highly doubt Felicia is getting replaced. She is deeply attached to this show. She's stuck with it since the beginning. And if you notice when you watch WS lately, she has a cast wrapped around her waist. She's performing WHILE healing with that injury! A dedicated trooper, Miss Finley is.
If they really want to boost ticket sales they should cast Julia with a name for a while.
Absolutely agreed, I can only wish for Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore or Jennifer Garner to play Julia. That would boost the sales to a 100% or over since the theatre has standing room.
I think that the producers should close the show and end the life of a pretty mediocre show. Curtains, in my opinion, is more nesecary to Broadway than a mediocre adaptation of a fairly recent film comedy.

WHAT??? When was she asked??? Link???
The problem with celebrity casting is that producers cant go too high up the celebrity food chain or they have the same problem with not generating enough revenue to work towards breaking even. Big names like Simpson and Moore are not even possible due to the salaries they would command. Stunt casting is rarely someone who isnt in need of work or publicity. Ms. Curry would probably be a BARGAIN because she is hungry for new opportunities and she gets the show free press. I dont know much about her, but I do err on the side of not judging her. After reading her blog excerpts she seems very excited, enthusiastic and committed to performing. Isnt that what being a performer is all about? She does have a large fan base. She was on 3 VH1 reality shows and they keep asking her back. Her shows were all highly rated according to US and style network is in talks with her as well. She's actually been TV for several years where as Constantine was only on for a few weeks. Everyone has to start somewhere.
It's a good point, betty. If they really tried to find someone for Julia who was more interested in a chance to do theater than how much they got paid or someone who straddled the line between well known and not overly pricey then I think it might work though.
"I can only wish for Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore or Jennifer Garner to play Julia" is what I said, I know that Jess Simpson for example is about to release a CD and that will generate a lot more buzz and money than a Broadway show. But on the other hand, some performers who are doing theatre for personal reasons besides the salary. Usher has a lot of millions, Julia Roberts, Amanda Peet(who is a raising Hollywood star) they actually CHOSE to be on Broadway. If Mandy Moore(even though she is not a hot pop star anymore) accepts to do theatre it will be because she wants to. So I am aware that these stars don't do it for the money. Brooke Shields once said that she decided to star in Wonderful Town because of her love for theatre and her challenge to grow as an actress, but she stated that the pay in Broadways is lousy.
Bettyboy, you know that i adore you, but i can't resist
"She was on 3 VH1 reality shows and they keep asking her back"
Why not cast Janice Dickinson to replace Adinah Alexander, Omarosa to replace Tracee Beazer and Briggite Nielsen to replace Laura Benanti/Tina Maddigan? =)
Muscle, you know I love you as well, but if Omarosa can sing and do a pivot turn why shouldnt she be on stage. I think the most glaring oversight in this discussion is that NONE of us have any insight into Ms. Curry's range of talent. She has auditioned for the producers who will make a judgement. I just dont think it is right to bar her just because of who she is. Muscle, you yourself said that you werent sure you would like TWS or BD and were so thrilled and suprised that they became your favorites.
How do you know Ms Curry will not surprise you. Actually, she may never get cast and this thread will be in vain. In all honesty, you have created BUZZ for her with this thread. Maybe that is why she leaked the name of the show on her site. Also, keep in mind that many models were actresses in college or high school and ended up modeling because the acting wasnt panning out. Maybe this is a chance for her.
I will say I would absolutely prefer for a trained, skilled, hardworking theatre actor to get the part (even over a big name like Simpson, Shields, or Moore), but that is no longer the climate on Broadway. Broadway used to churn out the country's stars. It no longer works like that. Broadway actors now hope that they can get some film or TV work in between gigs or become a character actor in film or television. Broadway actors do not become household names as in the past, so the producers need to find household names to plug into the shows.
Also, even if people only say, " let's go see that crazy woman who married Peter Brady in TWS" it is more word of mouth than the current cast gets from out of towners and tourists.
