From W*E*N*N Movie/TV News:
"Rocker Phil Collins is 'desperate' to scoop a Tony Award for his score for new Disney musical Tarzan - to complete his impressive array of career trophies. The former Genesis drummer has an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and numerous Grammy Awards, but he won't be happy until he has collected the coveted Broadway theatre accolade. Collins tells the New York Daily News, 'I didn't do this show for pats on the back. A Tony would be lovely. It hasn't all been straight-ahead wonderful, but I've learned something I never knew how to do from Tarzan. I'd never written for other people to sing on stage and to tell a story.'"

Ok, now it's just obvious you're desperate to be the "funny" one on the board.
"Desperate" perhaps. "Funny," how do you mean?
I just want a Tony.

AM I the only one that thinks "if you write a good musical you'll be more likely to get one."
Not the only one, ZONE.

Well, at least we know he's composing music for the right reasons!
Does he have enough songs for a Tony nomination? Isn't there a percentage of new material required for a Tony nomination? Does the adapting of the original score count?

With 9 new songs the score is eligible. Not to say, that it has any real chance to win, even in a weak year.
It doesn't even deserve to be nominated.
But my dears u are forgetting who does the nominating/voting! Big names still mean a lot to that incestuous little group NEVER underestimate the Tony committees ability to give when they should ignore and vice versa. Not when the smell of $$ is around.
He may also want hair, it doesn't mean he's going to get some.
He has a Tony....Banks

I want a Tony too! Or better a whole bunch of Tony's...
They should eliminate "Best Score" this year
I liked the DROWSEY score but not enough to win an award.

Well, well, well...Mr. Collins wants a Tony and I want a chateau in Southern France. Neither one of us has a chance of our dreams coming tue.

I disagree. Yes, no score of this year is reall strong, but, hey, this award says best score and means best score in relation to all show's scores of this years. It's relative. And, yes, I would even have dedicated a best score in 1989, even then it wasn't all crap that was floating around. And yes, I would give it like you to Drowsy even though it has flaws.
What the hell, they gave one to Elton John...
But that score was completely original and written FOR the stage.

Phil Collins annoys me!
You kind of have to deserve a Tony to win one, Phil. *rollseyes*
Good point FrankINC
I hope Drowsey gets it.
Believe Drowsy gets score & gives Jersey Boys a run for its money for Best Musical
I sure hope so Mr Roxy. Both shows were great, but I' d love to see Jersey walk away with actor and muscial, and Drowsy with actress and score.
Phil Collins Wants a TONY
Yeah well he ain't gettin' one.
