They could at least have Best Book, Best Score, and Best Choreography presented on the main telecast. The design categories and Best Orchestrations presented on a separate televised pre-show makes sense since they're really the unsung heroes of a production.

What is there to even debate? She sold out Wrigley Field and Soldier Field here in Chicago. Sold out an entire world tour... She's VERY famous. I don't think the ratings are going to reflect her popularity only because A) This is a pretty lame season already B) The New Musicals (to me) are not exciting.

Pink is one devoted mama moving to NYC so her daughter can be closer to bway and pursue her dreams. And good for Pink for making an effort to jump into the bway community and bring more attention to the Tony's (which she certainly will). A couple of her songs are already in bway shows, and her tours are super theatrical. I think it is a fun choice and hopefully will bring new eyeballs to the broadcast

I think she'll be great! She's an incredibly talented and seasoned performer and, if the Tonys are smart, they'll make good use of that. Years ago on an episode of Watch What Happens Live, I remember her talking about her love for Bette Midler and how excited she was to see her in Hello, Dolly! So she's been at least a casual Broadway fan for some time.

I think Pink is a great choice. The idea that the Tonys Host should be someone who has explicitly performed on Broadway before is so silly. They're not the same skill set... like at all...
Though I do expect Jinkx will host at some point in the near future.

It is worth noting that the last time we had a host who never performed on Broadway before was Hugh Jackman when he first did it back in 2003. He's even mentioned in subsequent interviews how surprised he was to even be offered the job at that point. Although granted, he did notably start out in musical theatre in Australia before becoming a celebrity as Wolverine.

THE BOY FROM OZ started previews 3 months after he first hosted so he was in full rehearsing mode at that time AND the buzz for the highly anticipated musical was enormous. It’s quite obvious many in the Tony Awards committee were aware of what he was doing in the rehearsal studios and agreed it would be smart having him host the awards before his highly anticipated Broadway show started performances. By the time THE BOY FROM OZ started previews in September 2003 it already had a record-breaking $6M in advance ticket sales ($10M by the time the show opened in October 2003). The Tony Awards committee knew what they were doing.

Sure. I can understand your point, but I also don't think I get it? Like why be negative? This is a big deal for the Tony Awards and Broadway. So why cast a negative light on it? She's amazing. She's talented. She clearly cares for the community... I'm not seeing why you should have a negative opinion about it?
Also she's still selling out the same places those artists are playing so..

With all due respect, I still don’t know who Bob the Drag Queen is or what they do. I don’t watch nor follow RuPaul’s Drag Race so based on his name I’m assuming they were part of that at some time and may be trying to inject themselves onto the Broadway bubble of sorts. I’m familiar with and admire Jinkx Monsoon, Peppermint, and Bianca Del Rio so yes, I’m aware of their RuPaul’s Drag Race connection so I’d say they definitely crossed over successfully if I’m familiar with them and their work. Suggesting Bob the Drag Queen to host the Tony Awards would be like suggesting Jessica, the manager at Starbuck’s on Judson Street in Cleveland. They obviously have a niche audience and have yet to cross over and enter the consciousness of the mainstream audiences like the 3 other artists I mentioned.

You can just say you don’t know anything about them and leave it at that. You look silly going on about “Jessica at Starbucks in Cleveland” when he has a NYT bestseller, a popular podcast, was a host of a hit HBO series, has sold out solo performances and standup shows all over the world for the past decade, top of their recent Broadway debut, and not to mention…literally opening and co-hosting Madonna’s massive Celebration world tour. Hell, she just featured him again in a sit down promo for her new album.
Interesting that you compare his notoriety to Peppermint and Bianca Del Rio, two performers who haven’t done near as much outside of Drag Race as Bob has, and are two on Bob’s closest friends and colleagues for decades. But sure.
You’re not aware or actually plugged-in to pop culture, and that’s completely understandable - but let’s not pretend that Bob The Drag Queen is a nobody just because you’re clueless. That makes you look dumb.
