They’re attempting to increase viewership. A host like Cynthia is great but she doesn’t intrigue the masses who aren’t devoted theatre goers like us. They hardly know who she is, if at all. P!NK is somebody with credibility and mass appeal who can get the ratings up. That’s the entire reason behind this decision."
I know what they're trying to do. Pink is not a hot topic right now. They would've been better with Bob the Drag Queen or a Housewife. Those are names trending with younger viewers and have more followers. This is simply an odd choice.

Yeah this is really weird. A fellow board member messaged me about this. I didn't post anything in this thread.

It has to be that or she's developing a new musical. Otherwise she's an odd choice considering she doesn't have a theater background.

She’s likeable and extremely talented. She’ll do fine. Some of you need to calm down and worry about stuff that’s really important.

People complain that the TONYS are always low in ratings, don't get the coverage they deserve, etc...
So the hire a host who can get more eyes on it...and they complain?
Make it make sense.
Huge fan here, excited to see her host and likely perform.

She’s living in NYC now because she wants to be more involved in theatre. Both she and her daughter have stated that Willow wants to be on Broadway. She’s ingratiating herself to the Broadway community. She’s been hanging with theatre producers and says she wants to produce theatre. Maybe for her herself or her daughter. I’d still like her to play Diana in N2N either onstage or in a film version.

Is this the first person who was fictionalized in Smash to host the Tonys? Krysta Rodriguez played "not Pink" in Season 2, didn't she?

If the Tony Awards think Pink will bring in ratings, I think they’re kind of delusional. No matter who they bring in to host, as long as they continue the show on broadcast television in a linear format the telecast will continue to lose viewers. Personally, I would love for the Tony’s to follow the Academy Awards and move over to YouTube.

Just wish it was a better year for new musicals….
Now get her and Kelly Clarkson to do a Sideshow medley…

I have no feeling one way or another about Pink as a performer. (I'm certainly not their demographic.) But I don't see how this makes a difference in viewership. I know that I wouldn't blindly follow a performer I love doing an awards show about a topic I neither know anything about nor care about. Kara Young could host the AVN awards (for porn - had to look it up) and I'm still not tuning in - even though I adore her.
The only thing I care about is a great show - but even if it's not great, I'll just fast forward to see all the results.

Calm down. She’s amazing and will be great.

It's random, but I do like her and she's extraordinarily talented, she can create a killer opening number and hopefully get more folks than usual to tune in. So, great I guess!
Does this mean we get her performing alongside & Juliet cast on the telecast? The inclusion of "F**kin Perfect" in that musical is her only real tie to Broadway I believe. And the show could certainly use a shot in the arm to rescue it from a fall closing given their recent grosses."
One of her songs is also featured in Moulin Rouge.

I don’t think anyone making the decisions thinks she is gonna pull ratings. The Tonys are a dud ratings wise every year. That’s not going to change.
I think they hired a pro entertainer who always sings live, is an athlete on stage and has a great personality. Perfect for hosting duties.

So much potential to have fun with the mother/daughter dynamic (Think All About Eve). Open the show with Pink locked in her dressing room, very brief cameos of Willow just showing up in the audience, backstage, etc. I think this is an inspired choice.

Hopefully she doesn't write anything for the ceremony, I hate about 90% of her songs.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the new producers for this year's telecast or the new management in charge of Paramount (which owns CBS). If the latter, it certainly doesn't help that its CEO, David Ellison, happens to be an ally of Donald Trump.
Luckily, the Tonys' current contract with CBS is set to expire this year. If it doesn't get renewed, hopefully they'll get picked up by someone who'll treat them with great respect."
If I were you I would keep my fingers that CBS continues with the Tonys if not you will not likely see them on broadcast television again. Also I would think some of the production values.
