Rosie O’Donnell as Mrs. Paroo, Jane Lynch as Mrs. Brice

HOLY CRAP Music Man is star-studded!

Lynch is not enough of a draw for Funny Girl to play a larger theatre. I still think it's perfect for the August Wilson.

So is Rosie Ms Paroo? She was great in that role in Wash DC with Norm Lewis.

You tell me. Look at the title of the thread...

Ugh, I'll keep an open mind but Jane as Rosie Brice doesn't really do it for me on paper. They should be switched imo, even though Rosie is also perfect for Mrs. Paroo - she'd also be a far better choice for Rosie (coincidentally) Brice.

Rosie aced the Irish accent in MM along with the comical "digs."  At the Kennedy Ctr stage door, a few of us said we'd love to see her in that on B'way.  She had her kids with her.   Great choice.  Hope it works.  And yes, as Brice as well.

Thanks Taffy. It's why I mentioned more detail would be nice.

I thought Rosie was great in the Kennedy Center production. Really the whole cast did a fabulous job. The only one who I wasn’t completely sold on was Norm Lewis. I didn’t fully buy him as a sly con man, but I have no doubt that with a bit more rehearsal he would have gotten there.

Would definitely have preferred to see that cast again over the current Bway cast.

Totally agree RunnyBabbit.  Norm did come across as stiff.

The Univ of MD  marching band was the best part to me. Blew the house away.  Folks tell me B'way could not do that w/o union involvement, but can't think of a better way to end it.

Rosie moved to LA earlier this year and is a regular on American Gigolo which has only recently started production.  So this isn't true.  (also why she pulled out of Funny Girl in the first place)

Norm has a great singing voice but he lacks charisma.

It’s Lynch in FG. Don’t know how to embed an image here but they sent it out with new artwork.

Also, for those who say Lynch isn’t right for FG, to be fair - she is Jewish and Rosie is not. Lynch would be more culturally appropriate.

Jane Lynch is not Jewish, unless she converted. She was raised in a Catholic family according to her Wikipedia page.

Casting is a little meh even though I really like Jane Lynch. Love her I. Glee and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Also I just brought Macbeth tickets? I'll wait to see how they do in the previews.

I'm sure Rosie would be fine as Mrs. Paroo, but I wish they'd cast someone a little "warmer"...a Victoria Clark or Beth Fowler type. Also funny that she would have had Marian at 13 and Winthrop at 49.

Rosie actually feels like a better fit for Eulalie Shinn.

I think Jane Lynch will be good as Mrs. Brice! Surprised she's taking this role when she has probably had her pick of buzzier parts over the past few years.

I thought Lynch was Jewish because of a really poorly written article from the 2019 Emmys. I found it, reread it and realized how the sentence confused me. Anyway...

I like her. But I'm perplexed. We've got so many talented Jewish comic ladies in the theatre world.

Ah, well.

I loved the marching band.  Unfortunately I had read a post here mentioning the band while I was on my way down to DC, but it was awesome to see all of the completely surprised reactions from the audience when they came out.  Even knowing about it ahead of time, I completely enjoyed it.
