How was her wig? Did she have Patti’s costume?"
The costume looked pretty much the same to me but I wouldn’t be able to say for sure. And the wig looked good to me (from the fourth row), I wouldn’t have thought anything of it if I wasn’t specifically looking when she came out, although I’m someone who’s typically not overly bothered by stuff like that unless something is especially bad.
EDIT: I’ve been told by the person I was with that I’m definitely wrong about the costume and the wig may have looked less good than I thought.
Curious if this was last minute? And assuming Simard is an unlisted Joanne cover?

We got the email that Patti was out at 1:50, so that combined with the fact that it still said Patti on the Playbill insert makes me assume it was pretty last minute

Simard has always been an unlisted Joanne cover."
Never knew that. Thanks!
How was Kathryn Allison's Sarah?

When the house opened there were papers taped to the doors saying “the role usually played by Patti LuPone will be played by Jennifer Simard.” They clearly had no time to re-stuff the playbills.
Simard did a very admirable job. I think, naturally, she was nervous. An entire audience had no idea who they were seeing until the pre-show announcement since there were conflicting signals. Her “Little Things” got better as it went. Jokes landed more and more as she got comfortable. Maybe this sounds like I’m being negative, I don’t mean it that way. She was very good. It was just a tough position to be in. Her voice was certainly strong. And her book work in act 2 was terrific. By the time she started “TLWL” the audience was eating her up. The “ahhhh” after “another vodka stinger” got a large round of applause. The audience understood this was a special moment. She’s a beloved Broadway favorite. The number got a very long round of applause. And she then went on to do some phenomenal acting opposite Katrina. When she got to the moment where she says something like “you’re terrible attractive. The kind of woman that men want.” She began to cry. A beautiful moment to see the “real” Joanne.
A very special performance. The cast was so supportive at curtain call. A lovely cast.
Kathryn Allison’s Sarah was good, but it’s hard to beat Simard in that part. I wished I could’ve seen her as Sarah again because it’s just so memorable. I missed her in that role more than I missed Patti today.
Also, I will say: I got nervous at a few moments when I noticed that Joanne and Sarah are almost always in the same spot onstage with only Harry between them. At moments i thought Simard and her understudy were going to end up in the same spot because of muscle memory. But that’s just my audience anxiety. Simard is a pro. Didn’t miss a beat.
The show is in excellent shape. The whole cast is on fire. Doyle is giving a phenomenal performance and getting an insane reaction. And Katrina. I loved her when I saw it in November, but she’s even better now. So playful and finding new moments full of discovery. Her voice is soaring. Both act finales had me in tears.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
Anisha isn't on as Susan tomorrow(per her Instagram). So if Patti is out again, it'll be interesting if Simard or Anisha goes on as Joanne.

Jennifer Simard is trending on Twitter. Apparently tonight's house was sold-out.

She sounds amazing - but it sounds like the tempo for "The Little Things You Do Together" has slowed down a bit."
I was there tonight and found the same thing. Few other numbers also had slower tempo I felt. There was an announcement of conductor prior to the show, maybe a diff conductor was doing it a bit differently
Jen Simard was amazing. For most of Act I, I thought, "Oh, she sounds fine playing the role of Joanne played by Patti Lupone." But Act II, she made the character her own. And I understood the club scene a lot better with her interpretation - maybe I just missed small nuances when I saw Company the first time with Patti as Joanne.

I do know that Cynthia Meng made her B'way conducting debut in Company last week... if she conducted tonight, maybe she's still finding her footing a bit?
Was there tonight for Simard and she was really terrific! Her line readings can really make anything funny, and she did a great job with The Ladies Who Lunch. But I think having a cover on for that track reveals that Joanne is probably the least thought-through element of this production. The concept behind this Joanne in this Company is really just "Patti LuPone". Not that I'm complaining of course.
This production remains top-notch on a fourth viewing, and Lenk was better than ever. I think she might have a real shot of actually winning the Tony here. Both Marry Me a Little and Being Alive sounded fantastic and had such a clear, strong emotional arc for the character. Playing Bobb(ie) is really just a test of how much blood you can draw from a stone, and Lenk has found an artery's worth. Maybe if she wins the Tony, Jesse Green will retire. Hey a girl can dream.

It’s sad the critics didn’t see what Lenk’s Bobbie has now become, but thankfully the Tony nominating committee and voters will have seen her far more developed Bobbie from post opening.
I saw it Sat night and it was great. Glad to see someone going on for a big draw like Patti and killing it.
I checked the bio for Jennifer Simard and I have seen her in other shows but was unaware. She was great but confused as her voice inflections and diction were just like Patti. Is that intentional? I have seen plenty of understudies and a lot of times there is a similarity but not that uncannily the same. With my glasses off, I would swear it was Patti.
In any case, great performance, great cast, great production and not at all as the critics seemed to view it. I loved it and Ms Simard was definitely up to the role.

Patti LuPone has confirmed it was very last minute, she tested positive at the theater:
”Hi Dolls. I showed up for Saturday's matinee, tested positive for Covid with 3 tests. Unfortunately, I'll be out of the show for 10 days. I'm so sorry.”
