SIX: THE MUSICAL ON BROADWAY

I'd be surprised if that rumour was true. I can't imagine it will take two years to get the show (which is more or less ready) to Broadway and Studio 54 would not be a good choice. It's too large and too off the beaten path for a mainstream musical that will want to pull audiences in from the street.

Spring 2020 is barely even one year away.

I doubt the rumors about 54 are true. That is not the right theater for this show. And not because it is too large. I have a feeling this show will not have trouble filling the seats of a larger house without sacrificing anything.

Has there ever been a case where Roundabout specifically opted to delay a planned production in order to rent one of their spaces to a commercial production as is being suggested by this rumor?

Kad, I meant two years from the London opening, though you are right, given the fall production at ART, the timing would make sense for a spring 2020 opening on Broadway. But I still think 54 is not a good venue for it.

There’s a call for musicians for Six aboard a cruise ship?

I knew nothing about this show until I saw a bunch of Tiktok videos with a snippet from one song.
Tiktok has a ton of obscure Broadway on it btw.

Not really it’s very smart. All the major European cruises have West End style shows on them with some bigger names appearing all the time. It’s very good branding considering the clientele.

I’ve been on those cruises. The demographic is very old. NOT the target audience of this show., And especially before its intended broadway opening. It’s very bizarre.

You don’t think old people would know who Henry the 8ths wives are?
London audiences for the show are of every age group. Last time I went there was a group that filled about 3 rows and they would’ve all been in late 60’s and they loved it.

Oh you misunderstand me. When I saw the show in Chicago the audience was full of all ages and all demographics. But the core audience and the energy of the show is young. And it is bizarre for a broadway bound show to hit the cruise ship circuit before going to Broadway or even having a official tour. It also takes a bit of prestige away. It is bizarre.

Erm wow...but ok.
A few points...
The show was created by 2 students, not Sondheim or ALW, there is no 'prestige' involved here. I think they would even have a little giggle at your assumption. They are the 2 least pretentious people on earth who created something that had taken off before they had even completed it and are now just riding the wave and whatever surprises happen along the way.
Six is not even technically even a musical. It's a stand up comedy routine with songs...an expanded (and brilliant) and very professional cabaret act/show at best.
The show has already toured the U.K with a second one starting again at the end of the year.
As far as it's life in the U.K goes, it has really done all it's ever gonna do besides run for as long as people want to see it.
I highly doubt THEY were approaching cruise companies to show it, no doubt they were thrown a LOT of money by this particular company to stage it. I have no idea who or what they are, but the show will probably run for a couple of months over the summer, it could even be for gay or 18-35 cruises. It is obviously going to be used as a selling point for the cruises.
I imagine they will take the money and use it to throw towards the Broadway run, if and when it happens.
They are going to have to start acquiring more people for various productions going forward anyway if it ends up staying in say Manchester or somewhere else for extended runs so whoever does 'jump on board' so to speak, may find themselves in the touring cast or even in London after the cruise shows finish.
If or when Broadway happens, I highly doubt anyone in America will ever know or frankly care that it did a 3 month run on a cruise ship in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, which btw probably over half of America couldn't even point out on a map...

I don't care who the show was created by either. It is doing well in Chicago and has a lot of buzz. Playing on a cruise ship before broadway is weird. The prestige I am referring too is definite diminished by playing a cruise ship... . I have been on those cruises. The caliber of the shows and the audience are kind of "tacky ( for lack of a better word)

I know.. and I care. And theater loving and going americans are not stupid. For a show to play the Cruise Ship circuit before broadway is unusual and BIZARRE.

Impossible,
For a show that is getting such strong buzz for a broadway transfer; it is a odd thing that it would be playing a cruise ship at this point in its life. I don't know why the fact that this is bizarre is so hard for you to comprehend.

I have no problem with the 'bizarre' thing (it is), it is the rest of the meaningless superficial judgemental nonsense flowing from this person I struggle with.
We don't know how long ago this deal was made, it could've been made long ago.
People forget that it was only announced in January that the show was even going to continue running in London, initially it was only a 3 month run.
The show has been a runaway hit that has all happened very quickly, this could've all been arranged long before American runs were even planned.
My point is, I don't think the people involved probably care about such things anyways, this seems a very American theatre snob way of looking at the situation, they are still shocked the show has even been a success.
Jamie has been running for what 2 years and still has no plans for Broadway and yet Six is going to probably beat it there.

I think you are projecting a lot. Who is surprised the show is such a success? Not me. Playing a cruise ship at this point in this shows life is not ordinary,. It is bizarre, and a bit tacky. I don't care if you think I am a snob. You started your first response by saying "that istwas not bizarre and very smart".. And it IS bizarre.. and not very smart. I think the one that is a snob is you.

Kevin McCollum is producing SIX and also is an investor in some cruise lines. So it makes total sense that he is looking to do that IN ADDITION to playing in NY.

I am sure that has something to do with it. But it doesn't take away the fact that it is BIZARRE. There is a breakdown out with the casting for the ship. So no one is arguing that. No one is saying it isn't happening and that there isn't a reason for it. It just is weird and I am hoping it doesn't happen. I don't care how snobby it sounds.
