West End. The understudies have BARELY gone on at all in the US so far minus the one covering Parr one or two times and then taking over the Aragon track to the end. The second understudy has only gone on once so far and I'm FAIRLY certain she was put in because it was around her birthday (saw a bunch of birthday wishes on her Instagram around that time)so they gave her a show before the Chicago run ended. The Boleyn actress really didn't NEED a night off.

Meanwhile, as Peron said, with doing so many shows in a week over in London and giving everyone X amount off in that time, it makes itimpossible to see the entire original cast.It's at the point where I feel like they should be giving the understudies the same billings as the main actresses because they are ALWAYS on. I mean a performance where 4 of the 6 roles are played by understudies, that would cause a RIOT in New York.

And I think that's the thing that is just baffling me SO much over it. Are West End audiences just THAT forgiving of understudies that they are willing to see a show that is 75% the "b-squad" without whipping out their 'I want to speak to the manager' haircuts?Not to say that any of the understudies are bad or anything but you get a different kind of performance from an actor that has put all their focus into perfecting their one main character then you do a performer that has to split their time and energy between learning 3 or 4 different roles or in the case of the swing, all 6."

None of these people are 'stars' and the general public don't know them so they probably don't even notice the difference.

As a fan of the show and the original cast it pisses ME off if people are out or it's understudies and I know I am not getting the originals and in some cases the replacements aren't appropriate or up to the task.

Most people who go are none the wiser as they are probably there on the basis of hype or seeing a single tv performance somewhere 6 months before they go to the show.

There is a cast board up in the lobby for each performance, I imagine if you really want to swap performances you'd be allowed to.

When I saw the show in London recently one of the cast couldn't even dance and sat towards the side of the show for most of it..just bizarre. Reflects a constant observation I have that New York City musical quality is often so much stronger than in London.

Grace did that when I saw it last time and she is the 'dance captain'.

I believe her and Courtney both have injuries that haven't been allowed enough time off to heal properly."

 

I have always found performances in London to be vocally inferior.  Just my experience every time I see a show there.  It was also my experience after viewing Six  there and in Chicago.

It depends on the show I guess, the UK doesn't have the massive talent pool the US does.

I think the girls all sound fine at the show itself, but sound a little off with backing tapes at their tv performances. Apart from Millie (a bit pitchy/screechy) and Grace (who is just taking on too much and doesn't suit all the roles), the rest are pretty good and I think their acting and characterisation is excellent. At the end of the day it's a 'concert' show and as such it's quite loud and you don't really notice they are not 100% on point all the time vocally which a lot of the time is down to the choreography. Though I have seen Grace have a couple of shocking nights, but I don't think was well on her off nights.

I have seen a few clips of the Chicago cast and agree vocally they are much better and have amazing voices, but the fact they don't even attempt an English accent and don't look as good at their characterisations would disappoint me more than a few bing notes. 

At the end of the day it depends on the person I think which you prefer.

I am very much looking forward to seeing the US cast next year tho :) 

I’m glad the speculation is over. Good theater for it as well.  Can’t wait to see it again.  This time taking niece and nephews .

It got great reviews in the West End and is currently on a UK tour but is due to have another limited West End run next year.Â

The show has a strong fandom among theatre fans and the understudies are usually quite popular. People sometimes go just to see an understudy as each actor’s character and costume is totally unique. It’s like a normal show where the understudy is a carbon copy of the principle actors, in SIX you’re seeing a totally different character. 

Mattie.. I feel like a proud parent.  I hope they keep their prices down.  I am going to be so broke.
