The total audience for the Carrie Underwood version of the musical on NBC rose to 21.3 million after three days of delayed viewing.
I will bet NBC is kicking themselves for only guaranteeing advertisers 17 million viewers. They could have charged much higher rates.
Just saw a commercial for the re-air and BroadwayWorld was quoted as saying "please do this again" or something.
They'll know for next year to charge more when Carrie Underwood stars in the next musical.
She'll star in something on TV, that's for sure. With ratings like that, she can pick and choose, and no network will care what the critics said.
But....will the public tune in again to give her another chance? I don't even pretend to know the answer. I'm not even sure if I would.

I hope she brings about a SMASH revival.

Why, that's half as many people as voted for Ronald Reagan for president.
When they add in the viewers and the delayed viewers from this Saturday's repeat. I bet if Carrie Underwood ran for president, she might could get elected!

I was going to say that she's too young to be president, but someone will probably call me a hater.

Oh yes! the public will tune in again to see her. The general public (i.e., middle America) doesn't care what NY theater snobs think. They will only think -- it's Carrie Underwood Live! It amazes me how many of you do not understand just how beloved she is.
'Beloved'? for goodness sake--she's not Mother Theresa !

On her next best-selling album, I hope she pulls a Dixie Chicks and lets the Carrie haters have it! I would not be surprised if music producer Rick Rubin has already been in contact with Carrie's management team.
I'd say she's laughing at the haters all the way to the bank, but I'm pretty sure like most people she does her banking online nowadays so that wouldn't make much sense if I were to say that, so I guess I won't.
Maybe she's laughing at all the haters as she walks over to her chair where she does her online banking.
And maybe NBC cut her a check instead of direct deposit, so she may have to laugh all the way to the bank anyway.

Maybe she's got that thing on her phone where you just snap a picture and your check is deposited. If not, she should get it.
The real (and unanswerable) question is what the "average person" thought - ie those not compelled to shout their opinions to the world. Just how many of the 20 million viewers thought it was nice but not worth watching again?
If she were to take this on again, I'd highly recommend Annie Get Your Gun. Cast Blake Shelton as Frank, and the ratings would be through the roof.
I think Annie Get Your Gun with the right cast would do really well in ratings.

This feature has a $1,000 limit.
Oh sweet! It's being re-aired on Saturday! I'll finally get the chance to see it. I think I just may be the only theater fan on the planet that hasn't.

I wonder if Carrie was the draw or was it The Sound of Music? ( maybe both?) Based on the reaction to her performance ( not the ratings) will she even want to try again? i would guess yes, but maybe should seriously take some acting lessons before another attempt. Has she reacted to the criticism? I haven't heard.
She has reacted to the criticism, tweeting that "mean people need Jesus" and that she is going to pray for them.
