No, the opening was INCREDIBLE. Just the rest of the show sucked. I mean, there was no opening announcement or overture, just you heard thunder, and the curtain lit up as the ship rocked more. As lights flash on the curtain, the ship fabric drops to the stage and you see Tarzan's parents "swimming" behind the scrim. Beautiful.
This is a stretch I think, but does anyone have a pic of the opening curtain for Shrek in Seattle? I think I remember what it looks like, but I want to jog my memory. Is it like a globe where the continents are made of twigs?
The Seattle one looked really cool in person. Not just an explosion of dripping green puke like the Broadway one! Not that I dislike the Broadway one though.
I love the Wicked curtain! Even the side scenery is amazing! I think 9 to 5's curtain was neat...I just liked the look of the telephone cords! Although a little simple. I really loved Hairsprays! The one that really pops out in my mind is The Lion Kings!!
My current favourite is from WONDERLAND - Alice's New Musical Adventure!
It's the looking glass-mirror-esque thing, with a door tacked onto the front (used a lot). Images flashed on both sides of Alice, the Caterpillar and his hookah, the Hatter talking, the white rabbit, etc.
I don't know for sure, but I read an article on playbill.com about the new Henry Miller's Theater and it had a picture of the theater and it used the classic red curtain.
