I'm surprised with the choice for Three Penny. I thought they would go with one of the more well known songs.
No surprises. "Show Off" was the only good number in Drowsy i thought.

I'm not too happy with the Sweeney and Threepenny choices, but I'm really really looking forward to the PG, DC and WS songs.
I don't think "It's your Wedding Day" is the best song from TWS. Amy has the best songs. But that's Stephen's best song though, i think.
Like the choices...looking forward to it!
I love that they are doing HELL, NO. Yippee!!!!!! Now why did they forget Lucy's Aria.
BUMMER!
Glad TWS is doing "It's You Wedding Day." That is the best song in the show and may help increase ticket sales.
The best number on the Tonys this year will be The Pajama Game...excellent song choices!!!

Whoa, this year there are more shows performing medleys than shows performing single songs.
I think with Threepenny, their choices were likely limited in what they could get past the censors. A Ying Yang Twins song mentions fewer sexual organs than Ana Gasteyer does in "The Ballad of the Overwhelming Power of Sex."
eta: Is it weird that I had a dream the other night in which Charlotte Rae was singing that translation of the song?

Really interesting choice for The Threepenny Opera - I really thought they were gonna have Lauper sing Mack the Knife.
I feel the other choices are very good - I hope that the medley don't feel rushed though, like Sweet Charity did last year.

Muscle, I am not criticizing your thoughts at all...but you think that "Show Off" was the ONLY good number in the show? I mean what about "Toledo Surpise" or even "Bride's Lament" (despite the lyrics, although they were supposed to be funny). I personally enjoyed "Cold Feet" (I think that was the title of the song). Anyways, just wondering why you thought Show Off was the only good number in the show. I mean it was one of the best, but I disagree that it was the ONLY good one in the show.
I am so excited to see Threepenny Opera perform! I wanted to see this show so bad, and I may be going back just to see that! I think that The Pajama Game choice is great. Very excited to see these.
The number i enjoyed the most in 3penny was the 1st song that Brian Charles Rooney sings.
Do you mean the Jealousy Duet?
yup

First, I am very excited that "Hell No" is going to be on the telecast.
As far as 3PO, this choice makes a lot of sense. They want to showcase Cyndi Lauper, especially since she's a "name" that people recognize all over the country. They can now say that she's a performer on the telecast, and you might pull in a couple of her fans from the 80s in the midwest that didn't know she was doing a show.
like many people have said, the Threepenny Opera choice depressed me. I was so hoping to hear The Ballad of Mack the Knife.
grr.

It's no shocker WS is doing It's Your Wedding Day. It would have been cool to see "Right In Front of Your Eyes" or "Let Me Come Home". In a Dream world, I would have loved to see a medley of Julia's cut opening numbers, The Julia soon to be Mrs. Gulia Medley, featuring Wonder, Right On Time, and ending with Someday.
I think a medley with "Saturday Night in the City" ,"Right in Front of Your Eyes" and "It's Your Wedding Day" would have worked better probably. Plus it would be like "Tony voters, you suck! how can you snub Amy Spanger?!" Shame on them.
Great choices, ESPECIALLY Threepenny. That was my favorite number in the show.
What about Elisabeth Withers-Mendes?
I am suprised that The Color Purple didn't throw in Push da Button. Especially since Ms. Mendes is nominated.
It says the title number from The Color Purple will be performed "led by Tony nominee LaChanze". But isn't that Shug's number?
I'm also surprised that they didn't choose Push Da Button or another big ensemble number with dancing.
I love "show off" but, why do a number that only features sutton? I mean 3 other castmembers were nominated as well.. I agree they could do "Toldeo Suprise"
As Far as "Wedding Singer" , the number they chose is great but, to feature Stephen more..."Casualty Of Love" would be hilarious as well.
i hate that damn "push da button" song. they shouldve kept "miss celie's blues" and that other song.
