They should have done Push Da Button - Hell no! - and I'm Here, done a medly or something. I'm sure they could've pulled it off. I hope one of them wins!

I can't wait to see Wedding Singer perform!

PS --- Wedding Singer is on the Today show this Thursday!

I agree, I'm Here would have been a good choice to show off LaChanze.

Shug does sing the title song first, but a shorter version of it, in Act Two. I would suspect that they are going to do the final version with the entire cast led by La Chanze and I will bet they will end it a capella.

They always choose to feature the winners. Take your polls/score sheets & now mark who is performing. It narrows your choices down. We have a clear cut vision of the possible winners now.

For instance, since our loved Shug Avery isn't featured in any number besides being an ensemble member, she won't win. Felicia Fields is featured in Hell No! And so is LaChanze in the title song. Cross out Elisabeth from your list & star Felicia & LaChanze.

Just look as past performances & winners. Sometimes (latest Fiddler revivial, Sweet Charity revival) musicals perform and don't win a thing. Look into that too.

Just analyze this information and the winners can be predicted more easily. Why would Joanna Gleason & John Lithgow win Tonys last year if they weren't featured in the performance of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? Norbert was featured and he won.

Plus, for the winners of Best Musical, a huge chunk of the musical comes in the direction. How can lame & crappy direction lead to the best musical? Check out the nominated directors & other nominations and piece by piece you can predict the winners. Updated On: 6/5/06 at 05:37 PM

I for one am extremely excited with the song choices, having seen half of them and having the other half be new for me. Very excited re: Show Off, Worst Pies, Hell No to be part of Tony Telecast

There's not going to be any of this Mary Blige/Aretha Franklin nonsense at this year's Tony's, is there?

Musicandpassion, I don't think your theory holds up too well beyond The Color Purple. After that, you have Sutton Foster, Patti LuPone, Cerveris and Mano performing- that doesn't say a single thing for me. Does Alan and Cindi have a chance at winning? I have no idea.

Gypsy, Alan and Cyndi aren't nominated. And since critics didn't seem the enjoy the revival of The Threepenny Opera, and it didn't recieve lots of nominations, odds are it will be like Fiddler & Sweey Charity, as I mentioned above.

Not every nominee is featured. Almost all of the time, there is only one winner. I'm just saying that the annoucements of the performances help narrow down the predictions. Why have someone win the Tony who isn't featured and their talents not exposed to the nation?

And I was only using The Color Purple as an example.

(Keep in mind, since emotions can't be read online I am not starting a fight or getting upset, just sharing my philosophy.)

Accidently pressed submit post first.

Im upset that they decided to do Hell No instead of What About Love which I think is the much better song. But oh well...

I love the revival choices, although I am surprised at the choices made by 3penny.

I'm not shocked with Drowsy's choice although I would have wanted more Leavel and Burstein. They really stole the show for me and they deserve to be featured. There should have been a medley with I Am Adolpho, As We Stumble Along, and Show Off.

Otherwise I'm indifferent. Updated On: 6/5/06 at 06:56 PM

Show Off is fun, but I agree with hte medley idea. I SO wnated to see Toledo Surprise again! Sutton is great, don't get me wrong, but I would've loved to have seen Leavel and/or Burstein also featured.

It seems like they're focusing on the nominees from each show, which is fine with me, "Show Off" and the Sweeney Medely should be great.

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I'm pretty upset about the choice for "The Color Purple" My pick would have been "What About Love?" I felt that Elisabeth Withers-Mendes edged out Felicia Fields by just a little bit in the best performance for the supporting players...I would've liked to see "I'm Here" also to give LaChanze something to really wail with. Oh well...It'll still be an enjoyable telecast.

Cheers,

Christopher

Well, in the case of Jersey Boys, you want to pick songs that people will instantly know. Some people hear "Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons" and have no idea who they are. If the same people hear the songs "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Who Loves You," they will know exactly who they are, and now they are that much more interested in seeing the show. I see nothing wrong with their choice of song. What would you have them sing, "Ces Soirees-La"?

I haven't seen TCP, and while I also haven't heard much from the score, I would have liked to see "Push Da' Button."

Kind of funny story - when they performed on Ophrah my grandmother had it on, and I was trying to sleep on the couch as I don't like Oprah. At all. Anyway, in my mostly asleep mink I heard a song ("Push Da' Button") "come to me," and I thought that I had been hit with brilliant inspiration for I song to write. Imagine my dissapointment when I saw the track list for TCP and saw it on there.
