Simon Rich's “All In: Comedy About Love” will star John Mulaney, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Richard Kind, and Fred Armisen. Directed by Alex Timbers at the Hudson Theater.
John Mulaney, who has two Emmy Awards for his stand-up specials “Kid Gorgeous” and “Baby J,” will lead an ensemble cast of four actors portraying pirates, the Elephant Man, dogs looking for love and other characters: Initially, Mulaney will be joined by Richard Kind, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and the “S.N.L.” alum Fred Armisen.
The idea for the show, which will also feature songs from the indie band the Magnetic Fields, came about when Timbers approached Rich about adapting some of his short stories for the stage.
The production, which is slated to run for 10 weeks, will begin performances on Dec. 11 at the Hudson Theater, with an opening night yet to be announced. Mulaney, Kind and Armisen are set to be in the show through Jan. 12. Goldsberry will perform through Dec. 30, with the “S.N.L.” comedian Chloe Fineman taking over from Jan. 2 through Jan. 12. Casting for the rest of the run will be announced later.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Been trying to make sure I understood the phrasing of this right since I'm dying to see him. Is Mulaney only a part of the show for the first 5 weeks/this cast (12/11-??), or is he in the cast for the whole run? Killer cast regardless!

There will be another round of replacements after Jan 12:

Ok awesome, great to know as I try to plan when I can catch this. Thanks!

Riiiight. Because even though Frank hasn't been the NYT drama critic since 1993, he continues to have tremendous power over the Broadway community and hecan force them to produce a play written by his son (who is a commercially successful and critically acclaimed writer)?

It's actually not clear from this article whether Mulaney is starring in the entire run and just the remaining cast is rotating. Although it does say, as quoted above, that "Mulaney, Kind and Armisen are set to be in the show through Jan. 12," it earlier says that Mulaney "will lead an ensemble cast of four actors" and that "initially, Mulaney will be joined by" Kind, Goldsberry, and Armisen. That could be read to mean that Mulaney is there throughout and will be "joined by" other actors at later dates.

Makes tons of sense
My Interpretation of the op is that the son of Frank Rich - Harvard graduate, perhaps the best known theater critic of the past 50 years starting with his college review of Follies (and his on-going relationship with Sondheim), his years at the NYT as a critic and then opinion writer before moving on the New York, and as a producer of Sucession (among many other projects) - the door is much bigger and easier to walk through. II’m not familiar with Rich Jr’s work and apparently he is very talented but whether he would have gotten there without being Frank Rich’s son is a question one might ponder.
The nepotism baby is in vogue (and perhaps is more gracefully stated as “the affirmative action of [intergenerational connections]” to analogize from Michelle Obama). I am not saying I agree with the op but I don’t think it should be dismissed that cavalierly.
There are a ton of super talented writers whose work is not presented on Broadway because they don’t have the connections that the son of Frank Rich has.
Simon Rich is 40 years old, has been a writer and/or showrunner on a few TV shows, and has more multiple successful books published.
No doubt having Frank Rich as a father opened some doors and got some calls returned just as other people may have non-nepo insider advantages that get them a leg up over those who don't.
But publishers and producers are in the business to make money. If you don't have enough talent or do not do the work well, eventually no one cares who your parents are.
