Why am I rather excited for this? I hope it turns out great.
WOO I love this movie! I'm happy
I'm not as excited, unfortunately. The original movie was fun and it had great integration of Motown tuners and etc. This one is going to have a new score by Alan Menken and some other people. I won't be as pleased.
This is so exciting, however I think they should have turned Sister Act 2 into a musical, with the children in the school.
yay! this has potential! yay alan menken!! sister act 2's plot wasnt as good as the first though, it would be hard to make anything good out of it. i like the idea of this one!!

Interesting. Another movie into a musical...so does this mean new songs, or will they use the ones they did in the film?
What are you, blind? The column itself says Alan Menken and two other people are coming in to write all new songs.

this should have had the composing team that's doing first wive's club.
i agree apdarcey the whole motown vibe. but dont underestimate alan menken, he can do a pretty good motown- look at the greek chorus parts for little shop of horrors. "alarm goes off at seven and you start uptown!" and all that
Tough to cast. Who could replace dear old Mary Wickes?

is anyone else feeling miss mary bond-davis for this?
Carole Shelley needs to play the Maggie Smith character. I've long believed they were the same person anyway.
And of course, Marissa Jaret Winokur as Kathy Najimy.

Gvendo2005, is that necessary? Yeah, EganFan2 should have actually read the thread and the link before commenting on it, but do you have to be that rude about it?
yes lets please not have any hostility. theres too much opinionated hostility going around on this board. everyone has their own opinion. respect it. if you have a different one, state it maturely and lets discuss- its a discussion board for goodness sake!
This makes me sick to my stomach for some reason. Trivia tidbit: Did you know that the part of Delores (Whoopi) was written for Bette Midler?
Rath - I agree!
I would love to see Mary Bond Davis or Sharon Wilkins in the Whoopi character - even Tonya Pinkins or Ramona Keller (for a younger group).
Well, it's not like you'd actually write a singing role for Whoopi Goldberg.
*Maybe this could be Fredi's triumphant return to Broadway!

I would love for this to turn out well. I just hope they deviate from the movie enough to make it fresh. This is like the umpteenth Alan Menken musical in development and they never see the light of day (Kicks, Little mermaid, a musicalization of that Leap of Faith movie). I don't doubt Menken's ability to create an awesome score for this, but part of the fun of the movie was that those doo-wop numbers were turned into Jesus songs.
Hope it works.
PS - cast Lillias White or Ramona Keller!

Another bit of trivia: Suzanne Vega auditioned for Wendy Makkena's role.
I want some Kyra Da Costa in this. That woman can SING. She deserves a big Broadway role - her time to shine is here.
yay im so excited! i read something in the newspaper about NUNSENSE and it made me think of Sister Act... i was just saying how great sister act could be as a musical
