this thread is obscene. an offensive post (and im fine debating the merits of that accusation) has yielded vile attempts to *blame Jews for not speaking up in sufficient numbers against Trump* when there is NO religious group more loudly against the regime, when Jews have been the VICTIMS of Trump supporters' violence, when you would NEVER demand Black Americans more loudly condemn Trump because of all the high profile African American supporters he has.
what Slam Frank posted was distasteful and borderline bigoted, but reactions in this thread are just straight up bigotry, textbook. and as usual, when antisemitism comes from the left, its often via people too clueless to even register how hateful they are.

This managed to do it. Absolute despicable to use the visuals they did in a marketing stunt, let alone the text they added to it."
WHO is responsible for writing that post? Katie the PR person or Andrew Fox and Joel Sinensky? I want them to NEVER work again, ever. I want some accountability here.

This thread has gotten wildly off the rails and in the process is obscuring the original issue which was the post that Andrew Fox put up that featured imagery of shooting victims

Andrew Fox says he is solely responsible.

His apology is pathetic. He "realized immediately" and deleted it. And then defended it with dismissal of those offended on his personal page. It wasn't until the next day and a ton of backlash to his PR team that he wrote this apology.

The PR girl in the comments of the Instagram post "thanking people" for standing up for her... BABE, that is NOT how you do that job!!! Just apologize and move on!
The creator's joke of an "apology", blaming people for catching the post, then gassing up their supporters in the comments instead of putting forward any actual change...
Then all good will this show had has been lost with my. Andrew (creator) and Katie (PR)... I hope you're both reading this! Because NYC isn't going to forget this! I'm in no way Jewish and this joke of an apology is actually making me more angry for this situation.

The PR person is hearting people calling those who criticized her a "nutjob". Really something.

Choosing to shift the blame to those who caused damage by resharing screenshots versus taking personal responsibility says everything you need to know about Andrew Fox and this show, also Katie Rosin Green is a crazy person and her client list shows the third tier shows she has worked on...I mean bragging about getting "Brooklyn" from twenty years ago to Broadway and it being your only Broadway PR credit is BANANAS

All of this. ^
The fact that none of them can take responsibility says everything I need to know about them and their show. Grow up.

This is why marketing yourself off of being snarky and controversial is always a danger. This is clearly meant to be mocking the way people who are pro-Palestine talk about the October 7th attacks and it's like....what would make you think anybody who cares about Israel-Palestine wants to be marketed to in this way? What would make one think Israel-Palestine is a smart basis for a marketing post at all? Leaving aside the utter insensitivity of it, in trying to be controversial the tone simply comes off confused. It leaves open too many interpretations to even be effective marketing. All in service of selling tickets to your crappy show.
I know everyone is taught in their communications classes that they should try and connect with the audience but people would do well to remember that they are running businesses not simply posting from their personal account to people who understand their tone.

the post was distasteful, the comments here somehow blaming Jews for the fascists running the country were beyond offensive
but andrew fox's apology--the one i see now, dont know what else was said--is a full blown acceptance of responsibility. im not sure what more one could ask for?

Agreed This thread and the whole situation is depressing. Those that choose polarization over progress, that act in bad faith rather than try to understand, that jump to whatever conclusion confirms their agenda… stop it. Get right with your own beliefs and spare us the reactionary discourse.
There is a lot of evil in the world. Anti-semtism exists. Extremism of all types exists. Musical theater creators doing a bad post and then taking it down is not that.
I’m seeing this show tonight, and I can’t wait. If you’re going to put a controversial hot take out I o the world, might as well make it a musical comedy.

Thank you for saying this, as it's exactly how I felt seeing this ad. I'd never heard of this show and have no idea what it is, so you'd think I'd be someone they'd be trying to pull in as a member of a new audience. But I wouldn't even have known that post was an ad for something if I hadn't seen it in the context of this conversation. I can't even figure out whether it's distasteful, offensive, anti-Semitic or whatever, because I don't get it. It seems to be made for people who already understand the show and its tone. So more than anything, it's just bad marketing.
It does make me laugh that all of this is happening at the same time as Book of Mormon becoming one of the top ten longest-running shows, given the oversized influence South Park has had in reintroducing casual antisemitism to new audiences.

A musical theatre creator posting something "bad" that is "bad" because it is anti-Semitic and harmful doesn't make it NOT anti semitic or harmful because a musical theatre creator is the one who posted it.
The Instagram post in question was definitely really, really dumb and in very poor taste, but it did lead me to the rest of the Slam Frank Instagram account, which I have to admit is pretty brilliant satire. I wrote my PhD dissertation on satire, have performed The Diary of Anne Frank professionally, and have relatives that died in the Holocaust, so believe me when I say that based on the show's Instagram account at least, Andrew Fox is a really intelligent, funny guy...who took it too far. He did apologize, however. Clearly that is not going to be enough for some people though.

South Park creator Matt Stone is Jewish, and the show has always, ALWAYS made it clear that it's portrayal of antisemitic characters is satirical. Portrayal of antisemitism is not endorsement of antisemitism.

You seem to be suggesting that it shouldn't have had a hand in reintroducing antisemitism, not that it didn't, in which case we are in perfect agreement.

But he didn't apologize. First, he got defensive and said people basically weren't able to get the joke. Then he decided to apologize by blaming all of us for sharing screen caps. While he and his PR team go thru the comments and ❤️ anyone who says that those of us upset are freaks and nut jobs.
if that's an apology, I must have never seen one before

I still have the WeTransfer link but im sure posting it here will not end well for me

I'd appreciate it in a PM if you could. A slew of my me and other Jews in the theatre have a lot of concerns about this.
I’d love to hear that, too.
