Mr. Math, who had friends Mr. Reading and Mr. Social Studies. And also captain of the Moustache club at school (which I'd heard before).
Mr. Bunch... who had a big long intro- So this one day when this lady met this fellow, and they knew that it was much more than a hunch.... something that ended with Mr. Kumgee (?) Bunch.
There was a woman whose shirt had indian type designs, so she traded 2 ears of some corn and her mocassins (or something like that) for her shirt.
I can't remember the rest, and those are only partly the right words, but damn they were funny. I was very impressed.
This may seem like a dumb question but i was wondering if they do all of the improv themselves or if the people that round up the spellers write it for them?
I'm not sure, though I think Lisa and Greg do most if not all of it. The people who pick the spellers definitely try to find unique names, funny clothes/appearances, or total tourists. And cute kids.
Hey Liotte- I was there last night too! I liked Mrs Wolple I think her name was, the one whose sentence was something about how she's good on the balance beam because "Wolples wobble but they don't fall down." :)
Does Jesse Tyler Ferguson usually come out after the show? My friend wanted to do the stage door thing, so we hung out for a bit, but I didn't see Jesse (I totally have a crush on Leaf Coneybear).
(spoilerish) question for you: what is the word that they use after catterjunes? (I'm trying to figure out if it's a real word or not, but I never remember what it is.)
Oh my gosh, I was there last night too, and I it was so hilarious!! I loved all the funny audience participation parts- so great! I can't believe Mr. Bunch got "catterjunes" right! And I think the older lady was like 2 thundersticks and fire whiskey or something. Haha. Brilliance. I am so glad I finally got to see Spelling Bee and join this love thread! I too was a little bummed that Jesse and Celia never came out last night, but I'll just have to write them.
My experience has been that actors may actually blend with audience after show so well that some times they actually slip by unnoticed if you are engaged with another cast member. Also post someone at both main entrance and real stagedoor. They came out you just missed them.
Liotte, your should try to see the show next Saturday afternoon, Feb 4th. You'll see a bunch of teenage girls wearing their hair in half-pigtails and also t-shirts with Celia's face lol. And I swear I saw you at either the past Broadway Barks or the Flea Market.
I was there as well. Celia was bawling by the end of the show. I constantly saw her wiping her eyes. Dan also shed a few tears. He referred to his real mom a lot during the show which was sweet. It was cool to see James Lapine in person. Overall great show.
