According to the bio for her concert at Joe's Pub, Saycon's supposed to be doing Fela! in the fall. I don't know when she's officially leaving Hair, though. She's been on vacation this past week.

My creative writing professor at Rutgers was in the off-Broadway production of Fela. I think she's going to be in it again. Not sure how big a part she had, though. Hope she's better on stage than she was in the classroom. Worst. Professor. Ever.
OMG Leia, I don't know why, but that made me laugh out loud!
HAHA! Aw.. I'm SO excited for Fela. I'm totally fascinated by it

Glad I can amuse you lisa! Seriously, though. She sucked. The day after Obama was elected, she went out on a partying binge. Never showed up to class the next day. Didn't even call the school to let us know. Just didn't come. And another day, she walked in almost an hour late to an hour and a half class. Don't even get me started on the asinine "writing" projects she had us do. Lady was just crazy.
But back to HAIR. I'm going to miss Saycon! I love her
Thanks for the awesome review, Viola!! I agree Taylor, I would love to see Nicole's Sheila with Will as Berger.
I can't wait to see the cast on The View. My DVR is set:) I wonder what they are going to sing.
I forgot she was doing Fela in the fall. I wonder if she had the same 6-month contract as Gavin did (before his extension) and is leaving Sept 6.

The entire cast, besides a few of the leads, had a 6 month contract.
Most of their contracts are up on Nov. They may be renewed, of course.

I really, really, really want to see Krystal Brown as Abrham Lincoln. Her Mimi in the 10th anniversary tour of RENT was spectacular. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want to see her more than I want to see Saycon. That tour of RENT was the first show I'd ever seen, and to see her again in HAIR would be really special.

For some reason I thought I read that the cast was contracted for one year from the first preview, or was this never confirmed? Either way it will be interesting to see how much of the cast extends. Everyone seems to love the show and one another but they've got to be EXHAUSTED!! lol Practically the entire tribe is onstage for the whole show and they always give 110%.

2 days and counting! I haven't seen the show since 6/28.... going through withdrawal! Thursday can't come quick enough! I'm looking forward to seeing some of the understudies, actually - well, save for Gavin and Will. I'm just biased towards them LOL

Thanks hon! Also looking forward to when you move to NYC and we can go see it together!
woo hoo leia! get excited! lol
the concert was sooo awesome! I went to the 7:00 show. lots of great talent were there. Caissie did Dear Daddy and it was freakin beautiful. Allison did a duet of a song with Alex Brightman. ill post the name of the song later but it was awesome. Allison and Caissie looked beautifulll. Andrew Kober sang a song almost as a church preacher and that was great. after the show Caissie said hi to me which surprised me because I haven't talked to her since Scott Alan @ Birldland, but she seemed perfectly fine. her nose didn't seem bruised and I told her she was amazing.

Maybe mgc knows about contracts, but is probably not allowed to share...
I was also lucky enough to see the show on Sunday with all of the understudies. It was awesome. I thought Nicole did a terrific job as Sheila. She wore this beautiful, long, dark wig. She looked gorgeous. I thought her voice was exceptional and her acting choices were great. For example, I particularly liked how she got a little choked up while talking about being tear gassed.
Steel was outstanding as Berger. Yes, he is very mellow compared to Will, but he really makes the role his own. There is something really honest about his performance. I think he plays up the serious side of Berger while Will tends to go for the more wacky/funny side. (Side note: I was able to interact with Steel since I had aisle seats. He gave me a high five and then shook his butt in my face. LOL Steel, Bryce, and Paris also gave me big sweaty hugs. It was kinda gross but I loved it.)
Gavin was great as usual. He had a funny flub. At the end of "Hair", he is supposed to land on his knees next to Berger in the center of the stage. Well, Gavin had a little too much momentum. He slid on his knees and fell right over. Steel and Gavin totally cracked up. It was hilarious.
Kaitlin did very well as Crissy. Not as hyper as Allison, but still very cute. She has a beautiful voice.
It was fun to see all of the understudies and swings. I'm glad I got to see this.

Oh my god, that is amazing. I wish I could have seen Gavin fall over and then him and Steel cracking up. Oh my god, that sounds absolutely HILARIOUS. So so LOL funny. I just am cracking up thinking about it and so full of love.
I know everybody always says understudies make the role "their own" so frequently that a lot of people say it is just a totally played out and over-used cliche that has lost all meaning. But I don't think so. I have only seen Steel in the tribe and not as Berger and although you can tell he would understudy Berger just by looking at him he is different enough from what Will looks like that you can totally tell he is not Will and so therefore because he is not Will he must absolutely make the role his own by virtue of the fact that he is not Will but rather Steel. And though they both are Berger you know they are two individuals who for all intensive purposes resemble each other very very much but they are such unique people (as well all are) that he must bring his own self to the part and therefore makes the role his own. So I think people should just be quiet and admit Steel makes the role his own.
Peace! Freedom! Powder! Happiness!
double sigh.
I didn't record but I did see someone in the back recording and they are turning the concert into a cd. bobby said it will be out in a few months.
