Koberiffic fan club = total win. He is honestly the nicest guy ever.
Anyway, as far as my question goes, I think Trey gave a really good answer. But I'm not sure. I think he definitely started to go a little crazy honestly, what with his monologue about wanting to be invisible so he can perform miracles and make it snow. but then it DOES snow at the end, which is all he said he wanted to do. But I think it;s definitely true that part of the point is that we never get to see, because his life is cut short because of hate and violence.
which reminds me of other things I've wondered lol. Like I've always wondered what happens to the tribe after. Like, I think sheila changes the world, I really do. But I can't place what happens to the rest. I think maybe Hud gets caught up in Malcolm x and black power and all that. But Berger, Woof, Chrissy, and Jeanie I can't figure out. And I even wonder how Claude's dad and mom react. Any ideas?
Because I look different you think I'm subversive.
It's odd to think that what the 60ish year old tribe would be up to today. I have no idea in my mind what they would have done after, but it's quite an interesting topic to bring up. They'd all be fighting for gay marriage today, i hope :)
Namo-- ahh yeah. duh. My history teacher would be unhappy.
taylor-- yeah, I definitely think they'd be fighting for marriage equality, but I was just wondering in the short run. I mean, I wonder if they ever went to jail for avoiding the draft, ever went back to school...

Half of them ended up in networking carding parties at the Palladium in the early 80's. Most ended up investing in condos and co-ops. Shelia married, had two kids and moved to Long Island where she attended PTA meetings. She had a breast cancer scare in the 90's but has been cancer free ever since. She now enjoys visits from her grandchildren who will roll their eyes when she waxes nostalgic about her "Protest Days". Berger, after many acid trips and various bouts with STD's ended up going from one low paying job to another. He was pretty much unemployable even after getting his GED. He had a scare in the late seventies when possession of large amounts of weed would get you an automatic life sentence under Rockefeller. He spent four years in jail then was paroled upon appeal. He is now married for the third time and ekes out a living driving a gypsy cab in Queens. Wolf continued to be homeless. During an LSD trip somewhere around late '79 he had a psychotic experience and never rally came back. He can be seen pushing a shopping cart collecting empty bottles in lower Manhattan. His howling is interspersed with riotous laughter for no good cause. Children are frightened of him.

'when somebody does try them and realizes they feel good, the lies are revealed.' (That was FindingNamo refering to drugs, by the way)
Actually, I've lived in 2 different counties. One of them was in a liberal part of Florida, and the other (the current one...which is awful) is in a very conservative part of Tennessee. I have had drug education in both of them and BOTH programs made it very clear that drugs do feel good. In today's society, it is no secret that drugs DO feel good. It is a scientifically proven fact that can not be denied, and most 'Say no to Drugs' programs make that very clear. The reason why I bring up the two areas I've lived in is because in Tennessee, a lot of 'real world education' is modified by the conservative government. If the Tennessee 'Say No To Drugs' program makes it clear that drugs feel good, I would say that most drugs programs all over the nation do the same thing.
'where i live pot smoking is basically socially acceptable here, but the drug use stays at mary jane. if anyone mentions any other drug form people start freaking out. they really should just make it (MJ and only MJ)legal and get it over with. do they not see the hefty amount of tax money they would make from it?'
It's true. Marijuana IS 'the gateway drug' when it's done on the streets. When it's viewed as an acceptable thing to do, it is no longer the gateway drug. By making pot illegal, it costs a lot of money...and it is a hell of a lot more dangerous. I still don't have any desire to smoke weed, but I think legalizing it is the right thing to do.

Claudio I know you were wondering about the tribe( characters), but I wanted to point out one of the OBC cast members who I find interesting.
My favorite OBC member Ronnie Dyson was the Aquarius/What a Piece of Work soloist. He was 18 while in the show. He did some tv and a film after leaving Hair and then went on to do the film version. In 1970 he did another stage production and created his own record company putting out several albums of his own. He died of heart failure in 1990.
yea my dad missed it by like 10 years. that would be fun..hearing him ramble on about woodstock lol.
jazz, i know a lot of people that already smoke weed on the streets. i've heard of multiple stories of cops buying large amounts of weed from kids i went to school with. my dad has this idea that anyone should be allowed to do whatever drug they wish, but they can't ask the government for help when they get addicted or in trouble. i don't agree with that. i agree with MJ because it has been proven that it doesn't have long term effects on you. other drugs do, not to mention cigarettes, and they should ban those.

What I meant to say was... Marijuana would be a whole lot safer if it were legal. So many people wouldn't have to get their weed from shady pot dealers (who often expose people to other drugs that are a hell of a lot heavier than marijuana). It would also help A LOT with the violence that comes along with the drug trafficing (sp?). To sum up things...Pot is 10x more dangerous when it's illegal.
yay_gerb, Sorry...I've been up since 5 am and I have a really tiring day, could you explain that to me. I'm confused (I'm not trying to be snarky at all...I've just had a long day.)

Well they are some of your parents, and i thought that was a great comment. we are not all the same age group on here as you might believe. I think alot of them have gotten tired and I know this because i have and i was an old hippie. BTW Ronnie Dyson was in Hair initially at 17 and his mother was with him along the way because he was still a minor. he was a great talent and died too young.
Actually, as I've stated before, they WERE my parents. My dad is still a semi-hippie, in some ways. Keeps the long hair, plays his music, still smokes when he can. He wound up working for Citibank his whole career. My mom, I guess you can say she grew out of it. Enjoys reminiscing but that's about it. She became a nurse.

Hello my love! I've actually posted a bit today in our 3 lovely threads and a couple elsewhere! But for the past 2 1/2 hours, I was at karate/kickboxing. Playing catch-up now

I didn;t mean to be rude. It was just a comment that my personal parentals weren't old enough. As one of the youngest people here, I figured everyone's parents were older than mine.

My stories were depressing? Actually they are taken from the Hippies I knew while hanging out in a park in Long Island in 1968-69. They were all a few years older then I. What is sort of bittersweet about HAIR is it's portrayal of youth, it's idealism the want to change the world. People actually thought they could "Yip out the khaki". It was done in all earnestness. They thought they could effect change, it didn't really happen. Society is very slow to change and we can see now, after 40 years it hasn't changed all that much. Perhaps the passion to protest has been swapped for the passion for the latest iPhone or Wii game. The problems the Tribe sing about are still here: polluted environments, stupid wars, racism, etc.

Do I get a stern talking to if I say I liked Paris!Claude better than Gavin!Claude? I have now seen 4 Claudes and Paris is my favoritey favorite (followed by Gavin, Hanke and Groff in that order)! I even spent money on a real seat to make sure I didn't miss him. I didn't think he was wearing a wig during the finale. From my distant viewing pleasure up in Siberia, it looked like his hair was just pinned back. I did notice his natural long hair did allow for more playing with it. No fear of the wig falling off (yay!) And what happened when Will was getting in position for Hair? Did he trip? Was he trying to make Paris break character? Not complaining, I enjoyed the lightheartedness and Paris and Will had great chemistry together. Paris, play Claude more often please, pretty please, pretty please with a cherry on top?
I was surprised. When he is part of the tribe, he just seems so quiet and introverted but he really shines. My eye is always drawn to him when finally he reaches his denoument of "What a Piece of Work is Man." Tonight, he was so comfortable as Claude, it felt like he'd been playing the role forever. And I loved the little reactions and nuances that he added as if he didn't see Gavin perform the role 8 times a week. During the dance party, as he was hopping up and down the mezzanine, you could see on his face how much he was enjoying himself. I remember when I saw the show during previews, he helped me up to the stage and patted me on the back as I got off the stage (totally when I fell in love with him) and he had such a different energy tonight. I hope I get to see him perform the role again, I really do.
Do NOT like Josh Lamon. Oh so missed Theo Stockman's nazi principal and Hubert. Josh Lamon worked okay as Hubert but he was not a scary, creepy nazi principal at all.
Finally, Marti Gold Cummings, were you in lottery seats tonight? I swear I recognized you from your pictures and podcasts sitting down during intermission.

And then, ironically, some of those hippies from the late '60s would eventually become part of the commercialism and new conservatism of the '80s, an era which arguably has influenced the many of the ills of society now and was a direct result of the decades before.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Yes Kad, that is what my comment earlier about most of them going to the networking carding parties at the Palladium. They entered into the Corporate world and were assimilated into the very system they were fighting against. Many jumped into the first co-op and condo real estate grab that happened in the early eighties. Youthful idealism does give way with time.

"I didn't think he was wearing a wig during the finale. From my distant viewing pleasure up in Siberia, it looked like his hair was just pinned back."
He did wear a wig. He pins his hair up into the short wig for the end. There was apparently a little wig mishap this afternoon. As he was running up, the wig got caught on the trap door and pulled back. At that point he had to yank it back on and it was not quite in place.
"And what happened when Will was getting in position for Hair? Did he trip? Was he trying to make Paris break character?"
He jumped out after "hair that's a fright" and basically yelled "Boo!" He was just being funny/Berger.
