Actually, that was Carell...

EDIT: I just watched the episode JT2030 mentioned above. It's really a great interview, and Colbert's (digs? jokes?) regarding Nathan Lane's age (and age in general) have edges.

EDIT2: Nathan Lane...? I meant Steve Carell... surprise

Some estates also lock them up. It's free and takes one minute. Same with website domains (though that could set them back $5 a year).

Fordham2015 said: "Colbert was on Kimmel recently and talked about writing LOTR in New Zealand over the summer. If he has a break before casting/filming this could theoretically happen"

Just because he is currently a writer on it does not necessarily mean that he would have any role in the shooting of the movie or being the "on-set" writer. Screenwriters have no ownership over their work, they come and go from projects and it could be taken away from him or rewritten at any time, regardless of his stature.

AH, yes - thank you for catching that, @JohnAdams - gave me a good excuse to find and watch that wonderful interview again - and here it is if you need a some joy on this wild rainy weekend:

Also not to veer off course, but boy howdy, do I miss Colbert. So many great, lengthy interviews with Nathan Lane, Stephen Sondheim, Bernadette Peters, Laurie Metcalf + performances from shows...really special how he'd welcome and give thoughtful time on prime late night to total icons. Pardon me while I now go down a YouTube dive rewatching them... :-)

Eddie Hirsch said: "Thomas Kail, who did "Proof" last year, is to direct and the co-star w/Carell is reportedly John C. Reilly. It's a Limited Engagement."

So, is Carel definitely in the cast? I just threw his name into the universe as a dream cast for a play like this.

If this is true all I want to know is will it be running by Easter?

The Colbert rumour is meh. But Carrell & John C. Reilly...WOWSA!

Or plays, his “Anna Christie” starring his wife at St. Ann’s got wretched reviews.

Whatever, this will be another star vehicle revival of a Simon play. But I agree this is good casting. I was in the minority in loving Steve Carrell as Vanya. I think he’s an excellent stage actor and I will be looking forward to this if it happens.

I actually think Carrell makes more sense as Felix than Colbert does. Colbert has made a career out of playing absurd authority figures whereas Carrell is best known for his kind of hapless schlemiel characters.

Agreed that Carrell would make for a fantastic Felix, but he'd also be more obvious casting. Colbert has it in him, I think - this is a bit of a deep cut but if you remember the killer he played on Law and Order: Criminal Intent he was very good at playing an ineffectual and cowed character who had a dark streak, and if he played that more comedically than dramatically it could work quite well for Felix.

I mean, to me this is why the casting makes more sense the other way around. I get "let them expand their range, show what they can do" and all, but if the point is to cast celebs, generally you want to cast them for the thing they do so well it made them famous. And if the point is that people want to see Colbert because they hate that he was literally banned by the government, again, I think they are going to want to see him in a role analogous to his t.v. persona.

Having seen John C. Reilly as Lee in True West - the dramatic” version of The Odd Couple, lol - I agree he would be perfect.
