I saw the show last night after seeing it in London last year and, while I can’t explicitly speak to any changes, I can easily say this is one of the BEST offerings out there right now in terms of an overall good time. I loved this show in London because it is unfailingly earnest and unashamed to wear a giant heart on its sleeve, even in the more emotionally tense moments - like the musical version of a giant hug.
The story does tilt toward Tutty’s character a bit more, but Pitts is so talented and has such great chemistry with him that you would be forgiven for not recognizing that. I think what’s even better is their combined comedic timing. What could otherwise be lethally hokey in the wrong hands is instead elevated to a perfectly calibrated barrage of hit jokes, puns, one-liners, and callbacks that kept myself (and the audience), laughing. It’s the antithesis of the TL5Y revival.
Admittedly I was skeptical when they were putting the show into the Longacre, but it actually does fit perfectly into the space. I roamed around before the show and checked the sight lines, and even extreme side aisles and the balcony had a pretty good view because almost everything is downstage center and nothing extends out to the wings. If the producers can manage to suppress their greed for a bit and lower prices for previews/early performances, they could pull off a SHUCKED or MHE scenario.
My only two quibbles with this production are:
1) Fix the sound mixing so that the band doesn’t drown out the performers. I was in Row M (aisle) orchestra and there were times the band were louder than Tutty and/or Pitts while they were singing at full volume.
2) I absolutely DETEST the marketing and ad design for this show. For a property that has as much whimsy as this one, every piece of advertising and merch is so painfully sterile. I remember the London marquee being full of color and sparkle and even having a Statue of Liberty with the cake on the torch. If I didn’t already know the show and wanted to see it, I would’ve likely walked on by without a thought. Considering how obstructed the Longacre has been by scaffolding, I would step up my curb appeal and make the facade look like a fun musical instead of some low budget indie film.

Any discount codes?
I recall Two Strangers had a $88 promo for previews a few months ago.
I agree the marketing could be better. The windowcards are just meh. I much prefer the show's marketing in Boston.

I bought the windowcard because I always do. (Getting it signed and framing it). But compared to some of the other gorgeous ones I have from this season/year, I feel like I’m not inclined to put it in a featured spot in my apartment.

I saw this tonight and it has made me so irrationally angry. It’s the most facile, lazy, milquetoast forgettable trifle I’ve ever seen. A book with the emotional depth of a third grader and a score I wanted to forget BEFORE most of the notes came out of the musician’s instruments. It makes MAMMA MIA look like Chekhov. It’s like somebody took the lamest Hallmark movie, added some lame songs, found two wonderful performers and then put it on stage. The girl behind me so enjoyed it and all I could think is, “you are the reason we are becoming an authoritarian state. People aren’t dis entering enough to actually care for quality. They will just go along with whatever they’re told to do and enjoy."
so yeah, I wasn’t a fan.

Oh COME ON LOL. A girl is enjoying a charming frivolous musical and all you could think is "this is why we are becoming an authoritarian state?". Might this be a little over the top?

I’m usually amenable to differing opinions, but this seems to devolve into some next-level nonsensical ranting and therefore I cannot take this review seriously. If you were so angry, why not leave at intermission? By not doing so, you became the victim of your own sunk cost fallacy.
And FWIW, this show is leagues above whatever this current production of Mamma Mia has on offer.

Relax. Fanatical fans can ruin a night. Especially if you are looking for a strong book and someone is screaming in your ear. This show feels like it has some uber fans already and that’s great but over hyping doesn’t always help a show.

I really hope this show lasts, because i bought some tickets for very far into the future...
I kind of get what they’re saying in the sense that we use to get like Fun Home and Sunday in the Park… and now we get a 2 person romcom. But also there’s room for everything.

A very simple Google search informed me it is 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Saw this today. Thought it was fine. They're wonderful and Sam is very funny. But i think it could easily be cut to under two hours without an intermission, and I found the set incredibly ugly to look at after a while. I didn't hate it. But I certainly didn't love it. Still, glad I went.
I’ve been such an advocate for this show since first seeing it at the Kiln Theatre and seeing it tonight, I love it even more here than I did in London. And the reaction from the audience was actually palpable in a way that’s (at least to me, personally) hardly ever seen. I really hope this catches on and finds an audience because it’s just pure joy.
How high is the stage? Would you avoid the front rows?
