I'm baffled. I understand people in the industry enter social media and chat boards at their own risk, but just like free speech can still have consequences, the opinions we all share here can still cause harm. To cloak ourselves in self-centered and self-important cries of "That's my opinion" is not just careless, it's immature.
Have an opinion, sure, but if it hurts someone, you can't say that's entirely on them for hearing it. You also decided to speak your thoughts. Sure, that's what we all do here, but own it, as well as it's ramifications.
But do you think his comment to GFH, is remotely acceptable?
Wow. We caught Hell's Kitchen last night. HOW was this nominated for Best Book?
It's one of the worst books in Broadway history. Simple - basic and no more than 20 lines before a song trying to create emotion and link songs to scenes. It's embarrassing this book is nominated for a Tony. The music in the show is fine if you like Keys - if not overtly "fixed" in sound design - but the book is painfully bad.

As well as the fact that it's not even nominated for Best Musical. Those factors pretty much prevented her from winning for The Bridges of Madison County in 2014.

I see it as an emotional response to an opinion unkindly stately aloud and asked for by no one. At worst an eye for an eye, but notably not where the poor behavior begins.

Vulture: Two Tony Voters Dissect This Year’s Ballot
This was posted in another thread (can't remember which one now), and I found it interesting that they seemed to have opinions that matched the people on this board a bit more, particularly around Hell's Kitchen.

Musical:No real surprises here, though its a shame Here Lies Love, flawed as it was, didnt make the cut. Days of Wine Roses not making the cut surprised me based on the intense love for this show, but I thought it was dull as hell so no love lost here. All the love for Hells Kitchen is understandable, its a fun night with insane performances, but the notion that this book was nominated for anything is just... hard to stomach. Similarly, the idea that W4E was nominated for Score.... I find myself pulling for The Outsiders here, but I'm nervous the enthusiasm for Hells Kitchen will only build.."
It wasn't. It's very telling that an original musical got 7 noms including Best Musical but not score, in this exactly season LOL

Thx for this correction. I thought W4E was fine, appealing, ok, but i had more fun at Lempicka, and was more moved by Notebook... the best thing about W4E was Paul Alexander Nolan who was overlooked. All very odd.

Oh, please. People here have said far worse things about his performance. That comment was pretty tame. And I'm sure the op never expected him to actually see it. While his was a direct, and childish, attack.

I agree (I haven't made it to anything yet) but W4E was the most "fine" show for me--nothing I loved (aside from the acrobatics), nothing I hated, it was just so mediocre of a show IMO. Lempicka had things I LOVED and things I didn't love but the love outweighed the other things. Suffs was also pretty fine -- it had strong moments but i thought struggled to find a consistent tone. Outsiders has a lot to love, one of the best songs of the season and one of the best sequences of the season, but most of the songs were sonically pretty similar.

I hope Eddie Redmayne wins over Jonathan Groff. What are the odds of that happening you think?

Very slim. If anything they'll split the votes and it will go to someone from The Outsiders

with those cabaret reviews, no way redmayne beats groff. BDJ is the only one with a real chance at an upset, but his show is closed, so it looks less likely.
The nyt didnt even mention redmayne which was weird. His performance didn’t get bad reviews

His comment was way out of bounds and not acceptable IMO. The tweet was not nasty, just offered opinion that Mr. Bart should not have gotten a Tony nomination for BTTF. Actually, I think quite a few people agree with that opinion. Mr. Bart should have just ignored it entirely or at least come up with a witty remark about the tweet instead of telling them to "go F*** themselves".

The point is that universally-praised Groff isn't losing to or splitting votes with Redmayne, whose performance plenty of people dislike, or at least just don't care about.

His performance was very pointedly panned by NY Mag and Time Out, barely acknowledged by Jesse Green, and got a slew of mixed notices besides.
The critics aren’t the ones choosing. I’m pulling for Eddie

A few reviewers were critical of Redmayne. Vulture wrote, “As the Emcee, Eddie Redmayne is on his own look-at-me planet. His singing voice never leaves a plugged-up, somewhat Muppet-y place somewhere behind his nose, and his physical palette is all coyly twirling fingers and hunched-up, leering Gollum poses.”
Yes, Redmayne also got some positive notices. But compared to Groff, who got across-the-board raves, I don't think Redmayne's chances are great.
