I would pay to see Robbie and Molly Pope as George and Martha.
And they could switch roles nightly!
I feel like we drunkenly made plans for that production some day. That poor Nick and Honey.
And lord knows you guys won't be using prop whiskey.
It would kind of have to be. And to keep this on topic, we'll interpolate No One is Alone at the end.
Losing My Mind: The Musical Adaptation of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Featuring the Music of Stephen Sondheim
I could never pick a greatest. My favourite Sondheim song, I admit for personal reasons, is another cut Follies song. Who Could be Blue.
I can't choose just one.
My pick would be Move On. Or Losing My Mind.

A Weekend in the Country from A Little Night Music... There's this wonderful "SYKE!" moment where Desiree and her daughter are discussing their weekend get together at their home, and they discuss whether or not one of Desiree's jealous suitors will "come galloping up on a black stallion brandishing a sword?" "No, it''s his wife's birthday this weekend. Sacred to domesticity. At least we're safe from him." And then I imagine Steve's face popping up saying "SYKE!" (because of what happens next)
If Sondheim popped up with anything of the kind, it'd be PSYCHE!
(Steve's a stickler for spelling.)
It doesn't make me cry like Children and Art does, but Franklin Shepard, Inc is such a theatrical rush of emotion and fury that I find myself returning to it over and over. It's glorious, this eloquent outpouring of sarcastic rage, it's totally electrifying. Especially in the original performance by Lonny Price, who's like a live wire.

got to see a fantastic cast of "Company" at SF playhouse tonight
the greatest sondheim song is indeed "Being Alive".....
although Marry Me a Little is right up there
this show is so insanely good and insightful about relationships....
if you are in the bay area you have only a week and a few days to see this.....
DO NOT MISS IT!

Move On
but "Your Fault" is in my opinion his most dizzyingly brilliant

Today it is "Everyday a Little Death". The lyric "He talks softly of his wars and his horses and his whores" is sublime.

suprised there arent more posts on this thread
I think the challenge to pick just one short circuits a lot of
sondheim fans.....
also suprised no one will fess up in this hip musical crowd
that send in the clowns is their favorite
and no songs from Gypsy or WEst Side Story made the 1 pick so far

"Now You Know" - it's not (in my opinion) his greatest musically or lyrically, but it's the one that means the most to me. In fact, I love pretty much everything about the OBC of Merrily (though I have no reason to doubt that the production itself was a complete disaster.) That recording - with all its energy and effervescence - helped me get through a rather terrible time in my life.

Really hard to choose between about two dozen absolute favorites but I'd have to go with the song that has made me cry (in both acts) all three times I've seen the show live. That'd be "Sunday."
I LOVE "Now You Know!"
"Even Cream of Wheat has lumps" is a line I use almost everyday.
