Then I saw "The River" and fortunately (and unfortunately) will gladly throw my money at anything he's in. I may not be as enthralled with his work in musical theatre as I am in films and plays, but what he did in that play was nothing short of a feat- to see him in this will be an event. And with Jayne Houdyshell and Jefferson Mays? I'm so there."
I join you for The River! It is enigmatic and did not please everyone who saw it... but I thought Hugh was impressive as he interpreted the role of someone who could not find the ideal he was looking for. There is a part where he was reciting like an ode ...and I thought his theatre training ( incl classical theatre) was quite evident in how he delivered it!
I do like Hugh as well when he is doing dramatic plays. Did you get to see A Steady Rain, co-starring Daniel Craig? I remember overhearing two mature women behind me where I was seated and they kept on gushing over Daniel before the curtain opened. After the performance, as I followed them out of the theatre - they would talk only about Hugh Jackman! Change of heart in less than 2 hours

The River was just one of those plays that I think was always going to divide commercial audiences. Although I haven't looked back to see what the response was on the board at the time, but I could imagine it wasn't 100% positive.
I didn't get to see A Steady Rain! I had the opportunity but I was familiar with the script prior to the production, and I knew I wasn't a fan of the writing so I didn't prioritize seeing it. It can be difficult for me to sometimes to want to see an actor I like in a script I despise (Marissa Tomei in Rose Tattoo being my most recent case; just couldn't bring myself to go)
I have to disagree with people who did not like Boy From Oz- my whole family saw it together- about 10 of us- and we all loved it and loved Hugh. I thought it was a very entertaining show and is very memorable. I also loved Moulin Rouge- but I my favorite genre is intense drama- but I do love a high energy, fun and entertaining show as well.
My mom loves Hugh so I bought her and a friend tickets to see this in November. My mother has underlying health conditions and the friend dealing with cancer. Even with a vaccine or whatever, my mom is already asking me if I can get her a refund. Shes in her late 60s and I feel is just not going to be comfortable seeing anything for years at the very least.
Breaks my heart because she's been telling me that she doubts she will ever travel again given her age already. It's gonna take some major changes to make her comfortable again. Even if a refund presents itself, I might just go with a friend instead but it would be tough to see a show and telling my mom I went to see her "precious dreamy Hugh" (how she describes him) without her

If a refund presents itself it would be because the show is cancelled or postponed so you won't have to worry about going to the show without her. I wouldn't plan on going in November.

Are you kidding me with this post? When I paid over $400 for my tickets, people weren't losing jobs, getting sick, and dying. People may not have needed the money then, but we certainly need it now."
And I assume that when you paid over $400.00 for those tickets you had the money to spend or budgeted it. If not, that is not the fault of the show. It is yours. They are not responsible for your CHOICE to spend that money. So now you have to wait. And I doubt complaining here is going to get you a refund any faster.
<<edited by BWW staff>> I never blamed the show for anything. My point was that circumstances changed so if they have the ability to refund people their money, they should. Last time I checked this is a free country so if I want to state my opinion I can do it wherever and whenever I want. If you don't like my "complaining" then don't respond.
Though I have a $109 ticket for October 2020, I've gone ahead and bought a $99 April 2021 ticket this week just in case the October performance is canceled.
I will end up A. seeing the show twice, or B. receiving a Telecharge refund if either or both performances are canceled.
Telecharge is prompt with refunds, if necessary.
I'm speculating that if fall 2020 performances are canceled, some ticket buyers will jump at later tickets.
I'm a jumper who wants to beat a possible demand for spring 2021 seats.
Fingers crossed for COVID numbers to decrease sooner than later.

I have been mulling over doing this very same thing!

I did the sme thing- I have November tickets- which I bet will be cancelled- and I just bought two tickets for April. I live in Atlanta and look forward to coming back to NYC, seeing my family- seeing a few shows and having a great time in April. November seems to be a stretch- my bet would be no shows till Spring.

Yeah, I'm thinking if shows do reopen this fall, it'll be the smaller scale shows and possibly non profits.

I didn't think of that, but you've inspired me to do the same I have tickets for Nov when my family is coming to visit. I'd love for them to see The Music Man then, but at least by buying a ticket for April too I'm increasing my chances of getting to see it either way.
Plus if we have to pick a different date for my family to see it later in 2021 (similar to what Company and other shows did with the recent extension of the closure) than I'll just get to see it twice!

This isn't a bad idea since I have November tickets that will probably be cancelled, but I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude because I am sure when Broadway reopens (next year) I don't think they will put people next to each other. I think there will be empty seats in between people who don't buy tickets together. Thus, they'll probably have to do a lot of cancellations unfortunately. But who really knows right now.

The quote "We're all hoping it's deferred, and nothing more than that" gives me hope. As much as we all want this show to happen, it seems like the people behind it do, too.

I swear, if they announce a postponement or cancellation or anything and the Beetlejuice fans come out in full force to put down the show, I'll block every single post I see. They're totally overreacting. It's ridiculous.

Calm down, no one is being ridiculous. The rationale is before there was no other theater as an option, now there are a plethora of other theater options.
They know they are sitting on a gold mine with a cast like that, and do not want to have to postpone. They are trying to wait it out, but they will lose in the end. They just have to look to January, or later and patrons wearing masks and having their temperature checked.
Theatre has not been cancelled in September yet. Theatre has not been cancelled in September yet. Theatre has not been cancelled in September yet.
Seriously, folks, nothing has been cancelled yet. Is it going to be? Almost assuredly. But until they actually declare that we cannot have live theatre in September, why would any show proactively refund hundreds of millions of dollars of ticket sales to folks?

Theater is not happening in September. That’s just a placeholder date for them to manage refunds.

I'm not saying it is. I'm saying, it hasn't officially been cancelled yet. The Broadway League is saying it's extremely unlikely anything will start up in September (and we all know it won't actually), but they have not actually come out and declared "there is no way theatre is happening in September". So why would any business refund money for something that has not officially been cancelled yet?
Because of insurance, there is absolutely no way that they will cancel this show until it is 100% clear that it will not happen. Right now we're at about 97% sure it will not happen, which is not enough for their insurance to kick in. I'd imagine that it will not get cancelled until rehearsals are supposed to begin. If they cannot rehearse due to a government mandate, then that should kick their insurance clause in.

LOL you haven't seen the responses about the postponement and hoping Beetlejuice will open somewhere else. It is the circle of Broadway that shows close and there is very little hope that they reopen somewhere else. It's just a fact. Shows close. No amount of hoping and praying that they will stay open translates to better ticket sales. Do you think people are moping around about closed shows and hoping they reopen in a different theater? They get excited about other shows. That's the beauty of theater-there is always something else to be excited about. Seriously. People need to move on. One of my favorite shows closed earlier this year and I'm not still moping around about it because I was too excited for new shows like The Minutes, Six, Flying Over Sunset, and several others. I wouldn't tell someone not to be sad, but be realistic, at least!

Well when Alex Brightman is tweeting stuff like this (literally 20 minutes ago) its easy to see why Beetlejuice fans are holding out hope
