I'm outright pissed, because Benanti gave the musical comedy performance of her career in what was otherwise a messy show. I was so hoping she would take the trifecta after getting the Drama Desk and Outer Critic's Circle Awards...
Thoughts?
Who did she rob? Did she use a gun? How do we know it was her? Did she even bother to wear a ski mask?
I'm upset too, but unfortunately she wasn't the "robber" in question. I do agree she was robbed
She truly deserved it. I'm not happy. But in the big scheme of things, I would have been MUCH MORE upset if she had lost for GYPSY. Now THAT was and probably will remain the performance of her career.

Laura Benanti was not robbed. She and Nikki M. James gave the 2 best performances of the season, it had to be one, and Nikki had the slight edge to push her over the top.
Wait, she was ROBBED? She already had the award and someone snatched it right from her hands?! That's terrible!
I'm outraged as well. She will obviously lose roles now and I'm pretty sure her husband is going to leave her. I saw her at a bar just now with 16 tequila shots being lined up in front of her while she was on the phone with the unemployment office. I'm pretty sure this also means she'll never be able to have children.
You should be pissed. This ruins lives.

Yes, if she had lost for Gypsy, the triumph of her career, I would have been mortified. In Verge, she didn't steal the show for me (Patti did). But she's likable and I wanted to see her win.
The only edge Nikki had was being in The Book of Mormon. Just by simply comparing "Model Behavior" to "Sal Tlay Ka Siti", it's obvious Benanti deserved to win!
Now her other Tony will be alone. I mean, it's not like Benanti will ever have this chance ever again!
If the world of television steals her from the theater, she may not get another chance until she's given the chance to revive 'Victor/Victoria' and turns down that nomination to honor her predecessor.

I wanted her to win, but I'm not mad. She will have plenty of other chances in her career. I'm happy for Nikki James.
I wished Laura won, too. She deserved that award. But I'm not upset Nikki won. I LOVED Sal Tlay Ka Siti. Besides, Laura won just a few years back. I don't mind spreading the Tony love around. At least Patti didn't win.
She was super gracious on facebook at least:
Thanks for all of the love you guys. Congrats to Nikki M. James on her Tony win!
Does she know how mad quizking is? You should let her know because He. Is. Pissed.

"At least Patti didn't win."
But LuPone had the best song in the show, was perfectly cast in her role, and turned in the best performance in her show! Shouldn't that equal a Tony?
Never mind. Laura lost. Oh well. She'll win another year, I hope.

You would think. But no, it doesn't.
You're certainly right.
Wait....Wonderland didn't win Best Musical?

I LOVE "Invisible"...but Yasbek wrote a character song for Benanti that is actually in the same league of, say, "Adelaide's Lament". A song that Benanti KILLED with.

I did like "Model Behavior" (at least, on the album I did), I just prefer "Invisible."
My favorite song is actually "Time Stood Still," because of how heartbreaking Patti sounds on the "Lie to Me" sections.

I am too actually...
