I think she'll do a fabulous job. I thought Autumn was talented and she brought all of the vocals and acting technically to Elle Woods. But, Bailey EMOBODIED Elle Woods in every possible form.
I also really enjoyed the platform/concept for this reality show a hell of a lot more than "You're The One That I Want!" I liked the fact they left all the casting decisions completely up to the professionals and not America casting their votes.

Autumn, the first runner-up in the competition known for her curly red hair & dazzling singing voice, will understudy the role of Elle Woods on Broadway and will perform in the ensemble. Lauren, the youngest contestant on the reality show, will understudy Becky Gulsvig, who stars as Elle Woods on tour, and will be a member of the ensemble. Rhiannon, known for her enthusiasm and stage presence, will play the role of Margot, Elle's best friend, on tour.
Some of you are acting like they turned down Patti LuPone, who also, talented as she is, would not make a good Elle Woods. I wouldn't even want to see Autumn go on as the understudy. I don't care if she could sing, dance, and act rings around Bailey, bottom line, she does not have the right feel/energy for Elle.
Bailey certainly seems more than competent to me. As far as lowering the song, first of all, belting that high is not natural and it's not healthy. If LBB hasn't been able to keep that key, someone who's much older, much more trained, and has been a stage professional since she was a child (I saw her in RUTHLESS!), how do you expect Bailey - a 20-year-old newcomer - to be able to do it?

If people are still wondering.. Bailey is absolutely positively singing SMB a whole step lower than the original. Though LBB finished the run singing it in the lower key.

Look, I'm not entirely thrilled with Bailey and my favorite didn't win, either. But you have to give some credit where it's due. I think that her acting was fine tonight.
Rathnait62: Oh, thank you for phrasing exactly what I was thinking. Autumn was good, but she wasn't the Second Coming or anything.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
I really liked Bailey from the beginning, but I just platonically fell in love with Autumn. Bailey did do a great job tonight - and she is very talented. Also, part of why we grow so attached to favorites is because it's FUN. I'm sad Autumn didn't win, but if I saw Bailey perform and there HADN'T been this show, I'm sure I'd enjoy myself (as long as she improves the title ballad). Also, I just love Autumn's personality.
is it just me, or did Bailey all of a sudden sound different when she performed her "encores" at the end? she sounded good, as opposed to all her bad singing 10 minutes earlier. i'm suspicious....
It was pretty clear that what was shown was not Bailey singing live but a an edited version of a pre-recorded track of her version of "So Much Better" (though the last note was modified and was not the one she hits on the official single recording, which is lower.)
While she certainly sang it live when she was crowned the winner, MTV clearly went back and dubbed over a recorded version so she'd sound better in post-production (something they also did to digitally enhance Bundy's last note in the same song for the filmed network performance of the show.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Well, I'm disappointed. Autumn wasn't my favorite, but she was robbed. I did enjoy her voice and loved the idea of someone with a good voice and technique tackling the role of Elle. Though I will admit, tonight was the best I've seen Bailey. But she still isn't my cup of tea. And that's okay. To each their own.
But, in other news, my favorite one, Lauren, is understudying Becky in the tour. And it will be coming through Boston. I was excited to see Becky (I has only seen LBB and if I am seeing the show again, I need a new perspective), but now if I hear Lauren might be performing at all as during its short run in Boston, I may actually ::gasp:: see it twice. It probably was, and quite possibly would have been no matter who the winner was. It would have been anti-climactic (in the eyes of the producers) to have heard the winner's emotional, teary voice not being able to get through that moment, considering how the rest of this show has gone.

Baily definitely sounded better during the encore. oh well. Good for her. She had the "Elle" personality. I'm eager to see what happens to the show in the future. Hopefully this casting and tv show will mean more ticket sales. I'm glad Autumn still got a role....she deserves it.
