I don't know how to post the picture, but in this article we see the title Wicked Part Two: For Good was considered even before we heard of the change: Cynthia Erivo Filming Update
Jonathan Cohen said: "However, Moana 2 has technically overshadowed Wicked in terms of ticket sales. It's up to$717 million."
I think that actually makes Wicked box office even more impressive since they came out basically a week apart. It's incredible that two films released at the same time both reached such heights.
Jonathan Cohen said: "That flop hard prediction, because of pre-sales didn't even make sense at the time. However, Moana 2 has technicallyovershadowedWicked in terms of ticket sales. It's up to$717 million."
I wouldn't even use the term "over shadowed" as that would imply that Wickedwas forgotten about. It has surpassed it, but people are still buying tickets to both movies
At the end of the day what films aspire for, aside from a good box office tally, are the awards recognition. In this case, between the awards it’s already won and the insane amount of nominations across the awards platforms, WICKED Part 1 has left MOANA 2 in the dust. WICKED Part 1 will garner numerous Academy Award nominations in various categories whereas MOANA 2 will be relegated to animation and song/music categories.
Wicked's also seeing a less steep decline at the box office than Moana week-to-week, which would certainly suggest it could have long legs.
If anything could actually overshadow Moana, it's Disney's other upcoming film Mufasa which seems the most poised to seize the same audience base. It's odd Disney has decided to compete with itself this holiday season.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Why would movies like Wicked and Moana 2 aspire for awards recognition? Perhaps the non-creative number-crunching producers, but with box office figures like these, surely Oscars aren’t needed to garner attention.

You basic little person. You obviously aren’t aware of the “wow” factor ALL industry players aspire for. Even if your work fails miserably at the box office, you still want that Best Musical Tony Award, Best Comedy Series Emmy Award, Best Picture Oscar, etc.

Awards Recognition has nothing to do with box office. They want it because they want to have Oscars. If you can have a box office smash win awards, that is absolutely great for them. As much as producers like money, they're also egoistic...

Ego and personal ambition make sense, I guess. I still doubt that genuine artists make projects purely to win Oscars. Mature people surely know they don’t really matter, and count for very little. It’s all just a fun game and showbiz razzle-dazzle.
P.S. What’s a "basic little person” ?

I mean plenty of actors (and "genuine artists") have it on their career bucket list to win an Oscar. Why wouldn't they? It's an award given to them by their literal peers in the industry. Turning this into a "Maturity" thing is just showing you off as an edge lord. "Oh they're happy they got an award? Bah!"
“At the end of the day… what films aspire for is awards recognition”
That’s all I was really taking issue with. I can’t believe it to be true. Brody subsequently used the word “industry", and I kinda understood.
I love the Oscars, I watch them, I’d happily take one. I just don’t think they are important in any real way. Except in terms of box office, for movies like Coda.
Frances McDormand has three, I’d like to think she agrees with me. Glenda Jackson would be my other role model on the matter.

Guess the film's success has pushed back the release date for the dvd/blu ray which was previously listed as March 30, 2025 but today I get an email from Amazon giving the "New Estimate Delivery Date" as Monday, June 30, 2025.
Unless I just missed it, it appears the Sing-a-Long album dropped today. Listening to it now.
Also read a, not updated, Rolling Stone article this morning that predicts the movie will stream on Peacock. No streaming date given. It was reporting the March DVD release but I think it was from 2 days ago.
No duh. WICKED is a Universal Studios release so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out it’ll be streaming on Peacock which is part of NBC/Universal. That’s why NBC (next day on Peacock) featured WICKED specials and other stuff.

Yes, I am aware of the affiliation. I was just conveying what I read. No need for the snark. But...well...
