OK. I'll bite. Let's look at the nepotism charge. Ben has been in two Broadway shows: BoM and DEH. Has his father produced either of them? No. Has any other relative produced the shows? No.
So there is no nepotism and Ben has not been in any of his father's Broadway shows.
This seems to be an open and shut case on the charge of nepotism.
Whether or not BoM or DEH producers know Marc Platt is irrelevant - everybody knows everybody. You can't possibly be suggesting that anyone who knows Marc Platt is not allowed to cast Ben Platt - the biggest Broadway star in his age group.
Finally, where is the evidence that Ben is a talent-less cipher skating by on his name and family connections? I mean, you don't like him - and that's fair. Others don't like him either, so you are not alone. But what have the professional critics said? Ben got star-is-born level raves for DEH and critics who went to see him in Mormon all pointed out his refreshing take on the character.
In short, there is no evidence that Ben Platt is a slacker being given a handout through nepotism - other than what is going on in your imagination.
Hint: When you conspiracy theory requires collusion between producers and their friends and critics and Tony voters and other Broadway shows - you have run out of credibility.

There are only two kinds of critics: critics in the pocket of Marc Platt, and critics who wish they had read this thread before they posted their "rave" reviews.
There is only *ONE* kind of Tony Voter: Tony voters in the pocket of Marc Platt.

All of the glowing Wicked reviews are evidence of his unquestionable power!
When I listen to Platt's Spawn all I hear is strained, unsupported pushing. Lots of jaw tension and the early signs of pre vocal nodules. His voice is thin and his tone is lacking. He has the best Tony money and Scott Rudin could buy.

Hey this Marc Platt seems like a powerful guy. I really don't want the Senate to pass the health care "reform" bill. Do you think Marc Platt can pull some strings and get that done? Kthx.

I don't understand why someone would go so far out of their way to attack a performer. Platt seems like a nice, quiet, polite guy. I've met him on a couple of occasions and I have never gotten the impression that he was anything other than a kind, humble person. Also, I've heard many people say that his performance isn't their favorite, and that's ok, but I've never heard anyone say that he "sucks." It's undeniable that he is an incredibly talented actor and singer. Whether or not you love the show or his performance is irrelevant. He clearly doesn't suck. He hits the right notes and acts well enough to land him a Tony Award. I would hardly say that he sucks.
Also, I ACTUALLY have perfect pitch and I can tell you that he has an incredible ear and great technique. That score would be hard on even the most experienced performers and he sings it remarkably safe. I hear no signs of early vocal nodule formation. He sounds just fine. Great actually.
And Theaterguy11, you will get nowhere in life being an entitled sh!thead. You haven't received any roles because I'm sure you act like a pompous ass in your auditions not because Marc Platt isn't your father. Grow up.

Again, Theaterguy11, I am not another poster on here. I have been on these boards for quite a while. Also, I don't stage door shows and also, I have a professional career on Broadway. What it is, is none of your business and I highly doubt that you have ever even set foot on a Broadway stage. I have made it in my craft. You have not. You are a worthless, trashy troll on a Broadway message board. I'm pretty sure that your Tony shelf is bare.

I am beyond convinced that you are icecreambenjamin- who once asked this message board if you were too obese to play the emcee in your high school production of cabaret. You won't convince me you aren't that chubby kid. Sorry!
"Fat shaming? Thats low, even for you. Also, if you are a "Broadway star" as you claim to be, then I'm even more appalled at your lack of professionalism and maturity. I'm sure your agent and producers of shows you have been in would be very pleased by your behavior. Now that is all from me (probably).
Unfortunately, I'm a middle aged Asian woman with 3 kids, so I don't think that I would be asking anyone anything about being in a high school production (especially Cabaret). At least not since the 70's.
You're not even a professional actor. I'm pretty sure that having a ridiculous right-wing, conservative, Trump supporting twitter page with a reasonable amount of followers, does not make you a professional actor. And you certainly don't have a Tony Award. You're a jealous nobody. Aren't the conservatives always yelling about how the liberals feel so entitled to everything? I don't know, but you're sounding pretty entitled right now.

I'm not an actress. Never wanted to be, but I do work on Broadway shows.
But he did pop up on my JSwipe but I swiped left knowing that if he really wanted to match with me Marc Platt would find a way to make it happen anyway :).
All jokes aside, I think Ben Platt is an amazing talent who has proven he deserves his spot on Broadway and his Tony. I'm sure his father has made his journey much easier than your average 23 year old but is that a bad thing? Just like any business, it's who you know. Whether it's fair or not, I'm glad Ben is here. We all benefit from it.
