Also, does D'Monroe's Benny always move like a mechanical object?
Well, he's been there forever. He seems to be getting bored with it.

The choosing was not...

I am seeing RENT this Saturday, matinee AND evening performances. Flying in from Seattle with my daughter. After reading last week about Adam being out one night from sickness I was a tad worried it might "go around"...wouldnt that be a bummer?! (I know he wasnt a HIT or even very good in the part but I flew in from Seattle to see Drew Lachey as Mark and he was out that night!)
lisatwin, I saw it this week and everyone was in, so it will probably be okay this weekend. I also saw it with Drew Lachey, and don't worry, you didn't miss anything. He tried his best, but his stage presence was zilch, and he could only shine when he was harmonizing with someone else. When he sang by himself, it just wasn't very interesting (which I guess was why he was back up in 98 Degrees). He's an attractive man, though!
greeneyed, a lot of the mezz during a weekday performance was empty, much more than I expected, so you can probably get a day of ticket at least in the back.
Something kind of weird about the audience this week... I've never seen so many people stand up in the middle of a scene, walk out, and come back in as I did during this performance. It was really bizarre and distracting. I didn't stage door it, but I watched for a little bit to see what it was like. It was MOBBED by fans screaming and all holding up cameras whenever someone came out-- you couldn't even see them from a short distance over all the heads of the fans I was kind of scared for Anthony because he must have been being crushed a little by the crowd.

last night people left during Your Eyes. I can't believe that they would do that simply to secure a stagedoor spot, but I guess if you've seen the show so many times you mind missing the dramatic climax of the show...
The morning star always gets wonderful bright the minute before it has to go --doesn't it?
I think people have their priorities off. We're there to see Adam and Anthony in the show (a very special opportunity), and it's strange (in my opinion) to miss part of their performances to see them at the stagedoor. Hopefully we aren't going to see Rent ("yeah, whatever") just for the chance to scream at Adam and Anthony from behind the barricade.
I aggree with Ariella...i think its pretty messed up to walk out of a performance simply to get a spot at the SD. Honestly I would have loved to get my playbill signed but yeah I wasn't about to leave during the show to make sure I did.
I know, I don't get it. It seems paradoxical, but whatever.
Last night I was towards the end of the "line" at the stagedoor, and Anthony was taking his time and signing everyone's Playbills, so he had his back turned to our section. These girls behind me start screaming "TONY! LOOK OVER HERE! ANTHONY RAPP!!!" I was like Tony?

misschung- people were also leaving during "Your Eyes" when I was there on a Wed matinee about three weeks back. And during the finale, and during the curtain call, of course. But I don't get it- why not just approach the barricade from the streets about two hours after the show starts, and get your "good spot," without putting yourself out the cost of a ticket?
It's not like it's the Three Days of Rain stagedoor, where you couldn't be at the barricades unless you showed your ticket stub proof that you'd just come from that performance.
Oh I didn't know that they ever did that with the ticket stub. Interesting.
Yeah, my friend offered to go after work and wait for me, but I was like "it's not that important" lol. I'd rather see the show - besides, the end is one of my favorite parts. I wouldn't miss that. And I find it tacky, to boot.
And yes, they said Tony.

Some people left during Your Eyes... but it was really through mid-act one into the middle of act two, people just kept jumping over seats, blocking peoples' views, leaving and coming back. It was very strange.

Wow, there were a lot of BWWers there last night. I'm surprised no one mentioned Adam's difficulty lighting the candle. Heh.
And okay, it was sort of near the beginning of act 2...definitely kind of between the end of Happy New Year and the beginning of Take Me Or Leave Me...I was sitting in the back row of the orchestra, and there was this guy, it sounded like he was above us in the back of the mezz who was just shouting...I don't know what...shut up, using the n word among other things. Was I the only one here who heard it? It was just bizarre.
The orchestra wasn't even completely filled, the last couple of rows on each side were fairly empty, and many of the extreme side seats were empty.
And finally, the wall that isn't a wall is getting worse. I assume for not signing or something, someone wrote near the front entrance something mean about Adam. And then there's just inane thing...some rambling about how wormtail (from Harry Potter?) didn't come because he prefers High School Musical...wtf?
Glad I missed out on some of the audience members near the front you guys mentioned. There weren't too many around me because I was in the back corner, but at one point, people two rows in front of us started dancing and jamming out to What You Own. Because that's a total get-up-and-dance song.

I was at the show on Tuesday, and it was very full from what I could see. Strange that yesterday should be so different. I've seen enough references from people about "writing on the wall" to make it plain that a lot of them believe that the front of the theater is where the famous autgraphed wall is - when of course it's actually in the back and inaccessible to the general public. Plus, they see that everyone else has written there, so they think it's the thing to do. If management would give the front of the theater a quick paint job, then post some signs indicating that it's not okay to scrawl graffitti there, things might improve.
Wickedrent, I heard it too! I was in Row O on the left side, 3 rows from the back, and thought that my friend and I were the only ones who heard it. It was ridiculous how loud it was... and the yelling went on until Take Me Or Leave Me. I was so distracted by it, I was really ready to get up and find out what the hell was going on and ask the guy to shut up.
I've never seen so many people walking around during a show in my life like last night. It seemed like every 5 minutes or so, someone either got up from their seats or was sitting back down. It was quite odd.
Stagedoor really wasn't too bad last night to me, much more organized than it was last weekend when I was there. My friend and I ran out right after the finale, and got the last two spots right in front of the barricade next to the car waiting for Anthony. Everyone around me was very nice and no one was pushing too much, and everyone was very respectful towards Anthony.
You definitely weren't the only ones who heard it. My friend and I kept staring at each other, and we noticed other people around us, doing the same, looking up, just like WTF? I even noticed the sound guy looking up. It was just BIZARRE. It seemed loud enough that may people would have heard, but I guess not. Anyone sitting in the mezz notice anything? That's where it sounded like it was coming from.
Aww, you were sitting just two rows in front of me. Thankfully between the fact that you mentioned one friend and leaving early, I deducted you weren't among the people dancing to What You Own; they must have been sitting right next to you.
Oh, and just one more comment I have to ask: has Roger always been that blocked out by the rest of the cast during the "bisexuals..." part of LVB (the part where we laugh at Adam's dancing?) I probably never paid enough attention, but it felt awfully like he was kind of hiding behind some of the others...it was amusing nonetheless.

Tony? Seriously? People need to get... um... brains.
Lisatwin, I saw Drew Lachey. He was terrible. I'm sorry you flew out to see him, but you didn't miss anything. I hope this time is much much better for you!
D'Monroe was fantastic 2 years ago... I was very disappointed to find that he's not so good anymore (and that's being nice).

On Tuesday night, there was a big commotion about 15 minutes before the the show starts. Cops ran in the doors, there were ambulances and the staff had everyone in the mezz go up the stairs on the left side of the theatre.
I found out after the show that a older man had a heart attack and flatlined when they got him to the ambulance. I'm surprised no one on here has mentioned it. I couldn't even believe it when I found out.
I was in the mezz that night, too! It was awful- I saw one man take a PICTURE of the people trying to do CPR while everyone was trying to get the police or an ambulance. Honestly, what kind of a sick freak would do that??
Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.
