I'm curious... what does one do once through the barrier? Do you lunge at the actors and expect them to treat you like their new best friends because you managed to break through? Come on people, really, just let the poor guys go home and go to bed.
Does the sun really rise in the east?
Does the earth really spin around the sun?
What's it matter in the least?
What's real to me ain't real to everyone.
That's what I don't understand either. It's like "hey, we just broke through the barrier and caused total chaos, injury, confusion, and made your night a living hell through our bad manners -- smile for my new facebook pic!"
The morning star always gets wonderful bright the minute before it has to go --doesn't it?
Ok, so it's totally not funny that this woman got through the barrier..
But I got a visual image in my head of her getting through and then being like "WHOO HOO!" and then just getting completely tackled by security.
I think I read somewhere, someone on here said they should do like the Apple Tree stage door and rotate people.. and that really worked there... I thought that'd be a good idea, but I guess there's just too many people at RENT.
I have no idea how she got over the barrier - suddenly she was just there in front of Adam. He said something sarcastic like, "whoa, nice to meet you!" before the cops grabbed the lady. I've never seen anything like the stagedoor scene last night. It sounds ridiculous, coming from a staunch Adam and Anthony fan, but people really need to chill out.
Stagedoor madness could not detract from how ineffably incredible the show was. Compliments are redundant at this point, and sweetestsiren described the dynamics very well already. Adam's voice sounded slightly strained occasionally, but otherwise his vocals were dead on. The chemistry between Adam and Anthony was phenomenal. Never having seen Anthony perform live before, I was blown away by the perfection of his performance. With him, I don't think it's a question of acting - it's an immersion into a character entirely his. And there are few comparisons to Adam Pascal onstage - the presence and the voice are wonderfully unique.
There are passionate fans, good passionate fans who really appreciate an actor's work and the piece and so forth. I like to count myself among them.
Then there are crazy fans who do things like... I don't know... chase Adam down the street or, say, jump the barricade. These people claim to appreciate actors and shows, but really have no respect for their personal lives (or their person in general... give the men some space!) And that's just sad.
Sweetsiren, I was there that night too and I thought Adam was amazing whether it was an off night or not.

I read this post a few hours ago and it kind of made me angry and bothered me (let me clearify, I read about yesterday's incident and that made me angry). I had to come back to it and vent for a second (even though I know I am more than likely preaching to the choir). I went last weekend to see the show and it was amazing. After expriencing the crowd that I did, I know that if I were any of the actors in this play, I would not come out until most everyone was gone. Fans were rude, pushy and did I mention rude? These actors have no obligation to come to sign anything or meet anyone. They do it because they want to. People at these things need to be patient and considerate. There was absloutly no consideration for fellow fans or for the actors. As soon as the woman who played Maureen came out people started asking about Anthony. As soon as Anthony was out people wanted Adam. It seemed like no one could be pleased. Security stepped in because my friend was being squished. When security warned about the pushing people actually yelled back at them. As for the incident last night, I can't even talk about it. Yes everyone is excited for A&A's return, which is awesome, but there is such thing as going overboard. After last night, I don't think I would want to sign any more autographs. I'll be intersted in reading if anyone posts after tomorrow night's shows. Thank you for letting me vent! I just can't stand inconsiderate people and if you are at a Rent show, you are old enough to have some consideration for other people. The end, I am done.
If anyone cares, Amneris is seeing this madness for herself the date of her birthing on August 22nd - 8pm show. She will be sitting in the Front Mezz with her parents. She does not intend to wait after the show for fear of being skinned alive by a 13 year old with raging Hormones but, will report back on the evenings events. Thank you - Amneris
Amneris, I'll be there too! I was there two days ago and managed to survive the stagedoor, but probably only because I got out of the theater quickly. I'm on the opposite side of the doors this time, so I think I'm not going to bother.
Have fun guys! Here's my (long-awaited, I'm sure) review of RENT from 8/13 (This is from a message I sent goofy, actually, but I think it will suffice):
For me, RENT was amazing pretty much. Seeing Adam and Anthony overshadowed the weaknesses in casting, most of the time. I kept freaking out throughout the show for all their little subtleties. They're both just so talented. La Vie Boheme was incredible; One Song Glory and especially What You Own were way too surreal. What You Own is my favorite song from RENT at the moment and I don't think I breathed through the whole song.
Tamyra was, as everyone agrees, fantastic. I liked her better in Act II than Act I, but everyone also seems to think her songs are strongest in II. It was great to see her and she was really nice at the stage door. (I didn't get to talk to her, but she signed programs for a long time.)I didn't like Nicolette at all; she had a great voice but she was so show-y, like she was auditioning for 42nd street or something rather than performing on a rock musical. I had seen Justin before and not liked him at all. This time was a little better, but he went from being under-enthusiastic to over the top, I think you said he was so bored he was adding stuff to get laughs and I agree. Saw Troy; nothing terrible about him but nothing outstanding either. Of course Merle Dandrige was amazing (though not very friendly at the stage door; she seemed almost annoyed about signing autographs) I had seen her before as well. And even though I saw D'Monroe 3 years ago and really liked him, I wasn't at all impressed with him this time. The ensemble to me was okay; some of them were new to me some I had seen before. Nothing about them stood out, but I wasn't disappointed in them Still all in all I wish I could go back because I love me some A&A and the energy is amazing like RENT hasn't had in years, and like you can hardly find anywhere else.
That's all for me for now... I believe you've heard my stage door account already.

So can anyone answer me this..... I am staying at Hotel 41 right next door to the Nederlander (it shares the same wall with the theater) We will get there this Friday night ( from Seattle) at about 7 and I am going to see RENT for the matinee and the evening performances on Saturday. WILL I BE ABLE TO GET INTO MY HOTEL WITH ALL THE STAGE DOORING? We are worried after the performances that we wont we able to even get close to the hotel door! Are people getting there EARLY so that I might hove a problem when I get to the hotel at 7pm on Friday night? The door to the hotel is what, maybe 50ft from the door to the theater? Eeeek.

I know! I've been searching for fan pictures and I haven't even been to the show since their opening, lol. I hope I can get some tomorrow, even if I don't get to meet either of them. I will be sure to post asap if I do
Is it wrong that one of the reasons I'm disappointed in the colder weather is because it basically rules out all possibility that Adam will be wearing a wife beater tomorrow?

I saw the Saturday night show (8/1, and I thought it was phenominal. Everybody was in, and it was mostly new people, for me. This was my 7th time seeing the show, but the first in a year or so, so I was really glad to see some newer actors put a different spin on things. Nicolette Hart and Merle Danridge are my new favorite Maureen-Joanne pair, by far. Merle was always my favorite Joanne, but I was really impressed by Nicolette. Anthony and Adam were great, as I expected. "What You Own" actually made me cry, which surprised me because that song typically passes by with no more emotion from me than the occasional toe-tapping. Yeah...maybe it was just A&A, but the show felt like there was some new life breathed into it, and I was glad to see it doing so well.
I left my seat a little early to get a good spot outside, and I snagged a spot right up against the little metal barricades. The heavenly duo's arms brushed my face (as did many posters, books, and programs which scared the crap out of me) and even though they were being mobbed, they seemed very gracious. I was being squished to no end and the bodyguard guy told everybody to take a couple of steps back for me, which was sweet. And I was there for the crazy lady who made it through the little entrance thing. She just kinda walked through the little rope things and right past the car and went right up to Adam. The police did come and basically shut down the street and it was INSANE. Crazy Rentheads.
I've got orch seats and am psyched to see it (only my second time)...was thinking of SD after but seeing the horror stories i've heard i think i'm going to pass...
