Oh, wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer SO many questions!

I think you're completely right about the core group of rentheads helping to make up for the lack-of-big-name slack in the box office---not to mention all the people we're going to drag to the movies! And then they become rentheads, and then they drag their friends...

Break a leg today at the read-through! And the fact that you're holding the peasant feast must be very special for all of you. Have a marvelous time!

ETA: This may seem silly, but I wonder anyway; Are you going to cut your hair to the length it was when you were in the cast originally?

Hush. I'm a nerd and I know it! 'tis a pressing question, though. I mean, would Roger be into the Bon Jovi hair thing? thoughts

I actually took his reaction to the loss of his mother in Garden State not as pretentious or oversimplified, but as a sign of how distant they were, and how much earlier events had affected their relationship. After my first viewing of the movie, I wasn't too impressed, but when it came out on DVD I watched it again and picked up on some things I hadn't noticed the first time around.

And although it was a few years ago, sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. My father was diagnosed with early onset/fast acting Alzheimer's a little over a year ago, and I know how frustrating and hopeless situations like that are.

Thanks! If it helps, I'll be dragging multiple people multiple times to the movie, with inflated NY ticket prices.

"Hush. I'm a nerd and I know it! 'tis a pressing question, though. I mean, would Roger be into the Bon Jovi hair thing?"

Actually, I hope Adam keeps the current hair and goatee. The hairstyle he had for the stage show 8 years ago, at least from pictures and video I've seen, kind of made me go "WTF?" .. haha. Anywho...

The bleached blonde? heh...
I do miss the semi-short thing... but I really have no idea what the "ideal" look for Roger should be. They've all been so different.

Guess we'll wait and seeeeeeee!

Roger hair shouldn't be neat, in my opinion. A guy who hasn't left the house in six months probably doesn't have nicely bleached and trimmed hair.

Tell me that Rosario will have curls, please. Mimi NEEDS curly hair.

Wow.

I think she does, insomniak. And if not, that's the magic of the movies. She can get them.

Be that the case, though, maybe Adam should keep his long hair, but ditch the flat iron. thoughts

Thanks for the update, Anthony! Hope you had fun at the read-through and peasant's feast *gets out RENT Bible and flips through to find the pictures of peasant's feasts* It sounds so cool! Thanks so much for answering my question. If I may ask- why were you disappointed in the program? Sorry to go back to this, but that was the college I was really leaning towards, so I wanted your opinion on it. Thanks!
Also- is it true they're cutting out Halloween..? thoughts

I hope he cuts it. I associate Adam as Roger with short hair; I'd like to see a return to that. But I'll be happy with whatever hair styles the cast members end up with!
Anthony, we seem to share a similar taste in movies. I loved Leo in The Aviator as well, I hope he gets the Oscar he should have gotten for Gilbert Grape. And I wasn't blown away by Garden State, either, especially after all the hype surrounding it. It seemed...empty to me. If that makes sense. I suppose that was sort of the point, but...I can't explain it, I just wasn't that impressed. I've heard it compared to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and I see that as a far superior film.
I'm sorry about the loss of your mother. I hope rehearsals are going well, thanks for keeping us updated!

"Speaking of actors who have redeemed themselves for me, I have to give a word to Leo DiCaprio after seeing The Aviator last night: I thought he was incredible, in his best work since Gilbert Grape. That boy is so damn charismatic, and capable of capturing such a deep level of confusion and self-disgust, that it's confusing why so many of his intervening performances have fallen so comparably flat. Well, anyway, he's great in this. Good for him."

Hey, are you in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? If so, I hope you're planning to vote for DiCaprio... or someone else besides Jamie Foxx! The Oscars will be all the more enjoyable for many people if someone who will accept the award with humility, rather than an "I expected this all along" attitude, gets it.

I take it you didn't like Catch Me If You Can or Titanic.

So what do you think of Sideways, Million Dollar Baby and all the hype surrounding them, and Kinsey and all the hype not surrounding it?

Reading your criticisms of other films and performances is amusing. I didn't see all of Garden State, but the 30% that I did see was consistent with your review. Zach Braff is an alumni of my university and - curiously - many of the Radio/TV/Film students here seem to do work similar in quirkiness to his. Your honest opinion of NYU's film program was also pretty amusing. I've heard the same about the acting program. It's a shame that the universities in New York City aren't much better funded now than they were in the late '80s and early '90s. Updated On: 1/14/05 at 02:33 PM

Hey Anthony, it's pretty exciting to us rentheads especially those who have followed the show since the new york theater workshop days to see the movie coming along greatly.
Do you have any upcoming tv appearances such as "Regis and Kelly" or "the tony danza show"?
btw, I use a 3d avatar based chat program known as second life, and everyone I meet I tell them about rent and how the movie should be out around christmas they say that they're gonna see it because it sounds so beautiful.

Thank you so much for your continued updates, and being here on the board with us.

I know you hear this a lot, Anthony, but thank you so much for keeping us updated on the film. Although the magic that will be the rent movie is still 11 (!!!) months away, it's really cool that we get little glimpes of it through the narrator's eyes no less. You are giving us such a gift.

BTW, how is your book coming? are you finding any time to work on it?

Happy West Coast Days!

....Bizarre Love Triangle....
Excellent choice in song and especially the long version...
(If anyone doesn't get the seemingly odd title to this post...it's a CTY Lancaster dance tradition related rule... I know it sounds wierd out of context...)

I saw Garden State Twice in the theatre, it didn't do it for me the first time or the second time (it was the choice of those at the theater with me to see it again).
It wasn't a bad effort at all for a first time director (I can only pray I'd ever get the chance), but I can see how it could be a "young" look at the story. It was maybe even a little dry or flat at times, if that makes sense. The story didn't have enough drive behind it, though I understand it *was* self explorative of the psyche of a once heavily medicated slacker with family issues... for me it didn't connect. It was like a misty haze clouded over the vision. It was basically linear a plot but it jusst had a "vague" feeling at times. Some instances were humorous or very well concieved, but overall it didn't amaze me. I'd definitely more stylized than substance (the music adds to this notion), trying to be the indie film's indie film, but perhaps this is a partial function of the fact that it was the first time Braff was using and in the process of finding his directorial voice.

yeah i saw garden state and thought it was overated. Eternal SUnshine is a far superior film. Also Leo deserved an oscar for gilbert grape. Ok back to topic. Thanks again for the update and i know us rentheads will all flock to the movie! Because i am going to school in Boston and my friend is going to brown, we have already planned on meeting half way to see the film! And tell adam to ditch the flattening iron. THe heat ruins hair!

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

Hey hey. I swear by a flat iron!
I meant that it just looks too neat when he does it...not Roger-esque, really. When he doesn't, though... that might fly.

Emcee, the flat iron is ok once and a while but not all the time! Believe me i know damaged hair!!! I dyed it constanly the past year! And i think roger should drop the bon jovie look. I can't seem him as a roger influence.

Purple pants? Wha? Did I somehow miss one of Adam's many- how can I put this delicately... fashion faux pas?

I have an exciting hair story for you, insomniak. Well, it's not *that* exciting, but I think it is.

ROGER PANTS, silly! The purple plaid. And no, the Adam pants you're thinking of are red suede... I remember a summertime discussion of those.
