Hey Anthony...two questions for you:

1. Had you seen HEDWIG (play or film) before you performed in it? Also, I have never seen the play but the movie is one of my favorites of all time...how do you think the two compare?

2. RENT has obviously become very important to a massive amount of people. Was there anything that impacted you growing up the way RENT has so many of us?

Gracias :) And thanks again for always keeping us updated on enerything. It is so nice to be able to follow the production of what I am sure will be a ground-breaking film.

Again Anthony, Mr Rapp... we can't thank you enough for posting about everything, Hedwig, LSoH, Charlie Brown, Rent, ect..ect.. I personally love hearing about RENT, but I recently saw YAGMCB and that was just hilarious.

Can you tell us some of the other people that auditioned for the "rent" movie since the whole cast has been announced?

Thank you again.

Just out of curiosity, Did you and the rest of the original cast have to re-audition for the roles or were they offered to you point blank? I'm really excited to see Rosario Dawson and Traci Thoms but why didn't Daphne Rubin-Vega and Fredi Walker join the rest of the OBC for the movie?

I'm so glad to hear about all the rehearsal footage that's been shot. I really love seeing rehearsals, sometimes it's as enjoyable as seeing the finished show. There's often a certain relaxed quality that comes through - was it Jerome Robbins who tried to get that rehearsal feeling from his dancers in their actual performances?

Anyway, really looking forward to the behind-the-scenes stuff!

Dreamcatcher- I don't know about Fredi but I heard that Daphne isn't returning because since Mimi is so age specific and she looked 19 in 1996, she doesn't look 19 anymore.... Is that right?

Dream, I can answer some of your questions from earlier posts and interviews with Chris Columbus. He said he met with (or saw on TV) all the OBC members being considered to be sure they could still look their parts and has commented on how vibrant and youthful they all still are. He also brought up the fact that Daphne Rubin-Vega was pregnant at that time. Don't know about Fredi, except that she herself posted that she's no longer suitable for Joanne.

Thank's so much for reading through all this and answering our questions!

And I just saw Garden State (in part due to your posts earlier about it), and I gotta say that while it is funny and VERY quirky, it's not as brilliant as everybody kept telling me it was.

Hope you have a good MLK jr. Day, too!

...I can't go through 70 pages of questions and see if this one hasn't been asked..lol

What was the audition process like, and for that matter the memorizing of lines and things like that :)

Bet I made a mistake here..somewhere..

Thanks for the info guys. I'd heard that the reason for Daphne's absence was indeed due to her being pregnant but I didn't really know if that was factual or just some speculated media hype. Anyways, was it hard to jump back in and re-capture the character of Mark after years of seperation from RENT? Do you think the way you approach the character will be any different then when you first worked on RENT in 1996?

Haha I was kidding. :-P It was just because we were all talking about RENT and whatnot and then your post made me start thinking of random people running naked through the parthenon. ^^ And to answer the question, I think everyone should get the opportunity to experience everything before they die so sure why not? golden

Hi Anthony. Again, thanks so much for sharing both the news of the RENT movie, and your own life. It's a lot of fun reading about the things you go through and have gone through. It means a lot.

Since everyone has been asking you about Hedwig, I thought I'd join the bandwagon. Firstly though, I saw David Searching and truly enjoyed that movie, even if it was B quality. It has become my one of my favourite movies. What was it like working with John Cameron Mitchell? Also, did he give you any tips or whatnot when you played Hedwig? That's another one of my fav movies. That and Velvet Goldmine. Have you ever seen that movie, and if you have, what did you think of it?

Thanks so much again for taking the time to answer all our questions.

I agree, I think David Searching deserves more credit then it got. Frankly when my friend gave it to me to watch I had a few doubts but it was really impressive. Even though it was a lower budget film it didn't look like it. If anything it added to the realism and the artsiness of the film. Its pretty sad how so many great independent B movies go under the radar simply because they arent multi-million dollar franchises with A list celebrity idols who take off their shirts alot. The true gold of the movie industry really lies within the lower budget non-mainstream films because frankly, I think they are more personal and they aren't trying to impress any of the big critics so the plot and screenplay is alot more edgy and honest and raw. OK that was my small rant of the day, and for the sake of the thread which do you prefer making? Lower budget independent movies (David Searching, Open House etc) or ones that are more mainstream and well known (Road Trip, A Beautiful Mind, RENT..) or both?
Thanks
-Mika

#1743Why not pay thye RENT?

Anthony - One question that I have heard from a few detractors over the many years is "Why don't they get a job and pay the Rent?" I know that this question does not have a simple answer. But, maybe with your wisdom you could provide a little insight. (The nine-year old thanks you for the answer about La Vie Boheme. If you have raised your children to be theatre lovers - at least some reasonable goal is achieved!)

Hey Anthony, just some questions I was curious about:

1. I know you did an episode of Law and Order: SVU. What did you think about Mariska Hargitay winning the Golden Globe?

2. I saw you in "Mister" a couple of years back with Yassmin Alers. At the performance I saw, your costar choked on his beer and everyone was in stitches (the cast and audience), but you stayed completely in character. Is it hard for you to stay in character at funny moments like that which catch you by surprise? On this board people have debated whether or not cracking under that type of pressure is severely unprofessional in a live stage setting, what do you think about it?

3. Have you seen Maria Full of Grace? If you haven't, I recommend it to you, because I feel Catalina Sandino Moreno (who I'm hoping will surprise us all with an Oscar nomination, but I doubt it) as well as the film are being vastly overlooked this awards season.

4. Can I make a request that if you ever have the option, to please make a guest appearance on "The Daily Show?" I love that show, and Jon Stewart's interviewing strategy, and think you, as long as any of the other Rent film cast members would be great.

Thank you Anthony, for your thoughts. I still think it's amazing that you take the time to read all of our questions, however random. And you give some lengthy answers. Amazing.
I have another question. You stated in an earlier post that you don't eat Oreos, cause you eat healthy. I think that's great, but...what do you eat? Like, what's a typical meal for you? My family tends to be on the go a lot,a nd I'd imagine that being in LSoH as well as recording for Rent would leave you little time to make something healthy...
Also, do you work out, and if so...what work out plan do you use, if any? if these questions have already been asked, then I apologize for reasking...
Kristin

I hope we aren't overloading you with questions, Anthony! But we REALLY appreciate you taking the time to answer them!

I know a lot of people in theatre and film especially have to stay in shape because ones body is just as important a tool as the voice and must be tended as such, yadda yadda.

So, to build off of Krisi's question, what do you think is the best exercise regime? From watching fellow actors work out and from your own experiences, what seemed/seems to work the best?

And feel free to lump this with Kristi's question, 'cause they are really similar...

Thanks!

Just wanted to drop in and say hi...and see how things on the other coast are going.

Sorry if this was asked already, but is there any word yet if the movie will have a delayed release a la Phantom of the Opera.
