Thanks etheb. That partly answers the question I asked Anthony. Exciting.
I take it you returned home safely?

Yes, thank you etheb. That pretty much answered my question as well. I feel sorry for whoever is standing next to me when I start seeing promo pics and posters around town. They will be recieving a very large and LOUD shock to their eardrums. :-P
And yes, Rice you need to come down to LA in december so we can take the theatres by storm and see RENT!

I second that One Song Glory. Welcome to the boards. Have fun. It can be pretty addicting so watch out.

Dear Anthony, I have been a long time lurker (lurker only because I keep on planning to post, get called away to do something, come back and think "...what was I going to put...crap...") of this thread and I am always gleefull, joyfull, and all those other adjectives out there in cyberspace that express happiness/joy/and all that other good stuff (...and because of my friend who is sitting next to me, narrating...something...I'm not sure at the moment, I have once again forgotten...but it's come back to me because of her babbling which has proved, for once, to be useful, yay!)...I would like to thank you for putting updates on here about how everything on the set is going, because it keeps me assured that this movie is going to be, for lack of better working, totally excellent! (And WOW does that wording make me feel like I belong in a Bill and Ted movie!) And I also like to say that you, yet again for lack of better wording, rock my socks. Updated On: 3/13/05 at 01:58 AM
I would respond with the proper word but can't think of how to spell it because of it being late here. Welcome and hopefully you won't forget what you meant to say. Happens to me a lot of the time. So anyways again welcome.

Dear Anthony Rapp, Okay so yes, such an over used subject line but what can I say, I just woke up. So I guess I kinda see myself as a starstruck kinda girl who blurts out all the questions she's ever had about anything all at once even if they're unrelated to abosolutely anything, but ironically that's not happening. I guess for right now I'm just going to say thank you for posting here and having contact with fans , and for being such a cool guy. Also thank you for doing the movie, because the chances of me seeing the stage show before I am at least 18 are slim, really slim, unbelievably slim, and also thank you for, from what I hear, because I'm new, relaying input back to the people making the movie, which makes you ten times cooler than before, and in the end will probably help the movie gross more money in the long run. I never thought I'd be so short of words...well this is short for me, feel lucky, If I actually met you I'd probably talk your ears off. Also I hear the rest is being shot in San Francisco, I used to live there, if you get the chance visit Fishermans Wharf, Haight Street, Pier 39, and the Fairmont, oh and try to take a trolly ride, and, if you eat this kind of stuff, a half crab half shrip sandwitch from the wharf, or clam chowder from the Boudin bread company, they're delicious. Anyway, thank you very much, I promise if I ever post again it won't be this long.
"A guy gave a girl 12 roses, eleven real one fake, he said, when the last rose dies I'll stop loving you..."
I finally decided to register and join in on the conversation. Took me long enough, but I figured it's worth it.
I actually just saw Adventures in Babysitting for the first time yesterday and absolutely LOVED it. Wow, it was hysterical. I'm wondering, does anyone ever tell you that you look almost exactly like Rupert Grint in the HP movies in that film? I guess CC has a thing for casting red-headed look-alikes in his stuff. Hehe.
I also had the opportunity to see a lot of the shooting in NYC last week and immensely enjoyed it, despite the cold. Got some really nice pictures and for two seconds I was tempted to become a film student, b/c the whole process was just fascinating. Even if we were running around in the cold! I saw you quite a few times and you look great in character. Yay! Some of the costume changes were a bit shocking (especially the absence of the Santa drag...that took a bit to recover from, hehe!) but in general it was very impressive.
I know that ICY was filmed on Friday in NYC...I'm sorry I missed that! I'm a big fan of the Collins/Angel pairing and would've liked to have witnessed. How did it go?
Speaking of such things...I gotta say that, from the look of the script that's been circulated, I was a bit disappointed in the amount of attention paid to Mimi and Roger v. the other couples in the movie. I know that they're the main couple, but I really love how Chbosky did it in his original 2000 draft...he had a nice balance and went much further in depth with the other characters (i.e meeting Angel's father, etc.). So when it was changed back to a much closer following of the stage show I was a little sad. I thought some things in Chbosky were really brilliant (ESPECIALLY ICY taking place in the beginning, in the emergency room, and LMC in the pawn shop, and how there was a lot of extra dialogue...I love stuff like that). I was also a little sad that Angel's death scene got cut so short, b/c that's always been a major part of the story and Chbosky's version was really perfect, in my eyes. So my question is...I know the script that we've seen from April has evolved quite a bit. Do you feel that the writer(s) have done a good job giving ALL characters and couples a good amount of time and attention and depth? That's really my only concern as far as this film goes...I want to see the two remaining couples examined in a much deeper light than the show currently allows. I'm hoping that this experience will be very different from the show. Any thoughts?
I'm very excited for this movie, and the shoot just made me more pumped up for it. I know that the first time I see a preview in the theatre, I'm going to want to squeal. Good luck for the rest of the shoot, and keep warm!
"Smart! And into all those exotic mystiques -- The Kama Sutra and Chinese techniques. I hear she knows more than seventy-five. Call me tomorrow if you're still alive!"
And SR, I just saw AIB as well last weekend and also thought he looked alot like Rupert Grint. :-P But yes, it was an awsome and hilarious movie. Gotta love the 80s for giving us such great movies. (AIB, Bill and Ted movies, Back to the Future etc..)
I have also been wondering about the fact that it seems that Mimi and Roger's relationship has center stage in the movie and all the other relationships have become "background" relationships so to speak. Thats just the take I got from the show and the script (though by now thats probably not the most accurate of sources) and I'm hoping that the other characters and their relationships will be played up more in the movie.
Anyways, very excited about the filming going on in NY. Just saw some pics from the set and everyone looks so great in their characters. And I'm glad to see that through all the changes they made to the costumes, the striped scarf is still there. Stay warm!

When is the last day of filming in New York? I'm going up there to see After Ashley next weekend, and I just have this feeling that filming in the city will be over by then....but I thought this would be the best place to ask.
Thanks!
PS. Thanks again Anthony for taking the time to fill us in! You're the greatest and we love you for it!!!!!!!
Just a quick message to respond to a couple of things around these parts. I'm surprised and happy to see that there are so many wire images already floating around the net. This is the first non-indie film I've done on the streets of NYC, so it's the first time I've encountered paparazzi on a set, and now that these shots go on the internet, everyone's getting a really early and good glimpse of some of what's happening. That's pretty wild.
Just to clarify: Angel will be wearing the Santa coat, just not in as many scenes. The film takes Act One from the show and stretches the action out over a few days, so we all have costume changes. Angel will be in Santa drag for Today 4 U and a couple of other scenes. Have no fear.
And as far as I know, I'm sorry to disappoint some of you out there, but there won't be any plaid pants for Roger. They're making him generally less flashy and stylish, and besides, as with my coat, plaids are not the best patterns for film. Not because they distort, but because they're so busy. I'm curious, though, as to why so many people are so attached to those pants?
Also, regarding the couples in the film. They have as much focus as the stage version, and I've never felt like anyone was given short shrift, exactly. But as in Puccini's La Boheme, where Rodolfo and Mimi are the main lovers, Jonathan has made Roger and Mimi the central couple as well. I think that Jesse, Wilson, Idina, and Tracie are all strong enough presences in and of themselves that they won't feel left out or sceondhand in any way. At least I hope not.
I can't really comment on any of the more up-to-date script changes, on account of confidentiality issues, but I will say that it will all continue to evolve over the course of production, but as we've gone forward in our process these last few months, the screenplay has more and more resembled Jonathan's libretto for the stage version. So to the fans of the deconstructing of that version that Stephen Chbosky did, I'm afraid that there's almost nothing left of what he wrote. That doesn't disappoint me, because I feel very confident in what we are working with now, but I do understand there will be some of you out there who will feel differently. Hopefully the finished film will please all of us -- those of us who are making it, and those of you out there who have shown how passionate about and committed to this incredible piece of work you are.
Oh, and we're in NYC all week long, ending filming on Friday, before heading back out to San Fran. We didn't shoot I'll Cover You yesterday; it's tomorrow.
And I'll be very curious to see if that parking notice sells at all. Interesting...
The attachment to the pants? Alright, I'll be the first to come clean and admit. They look good! *scurries away in embarassment* On a more serious note, I guess it's because of the way that people are so attached to these characters, and each of them sort of have a trademark thing that's become part of who they are. I feel like Roger's missing something sans purple plaid.
Oh, Anthony - I sent you a PM about more photos, by the way.
On another note, I'm very excited about the script evolving closer and closer to the libretto. Perhaps that's naivete on my part about the movie industry, but I really don't think they should take genius and distort/change it. But that's just because of my deep attatchment to the piece, almost certainly.
Thanks again!

Exactly what Emcee said. Each character has a thing, and Roger's is the pants, as Mark's is the scarf. And yes, they do look good. And they were different. Not just average jeans or anything.

Woot! First reply. Anthony, thanks for the update. I shall miss the Roger pants. My question is: Is Mark going to be as big a part if it centers around Mimi and Roger? And have they cut "Halloween"? If so, i may die. I love that song.

Or not first reply...anyway. Had second question inspiration all of three seconds after hitting post.
Is there going to be a 'making of' documentary thing of the filming? Perhaps to be included on the DVD or such. Just hoping.

Anthony- Thanks for your posts, it really does a job of brightening up a day filled with science projects. About the pants-- Like luvtheEmcee said, they're Roger's trademark, even my friends who haven't ever seen the show call me when they're shopping and find "Roger pants" or a "Mark scarf." It's like having a little piece of the show! Anyway, maybe that's just me ^-^ Have a great day and lots of fun filming. Give everyone our love. hearts, Kali
"Kali, why is Roger on a cliff?"
"Because the cliff is love, Rachel."
"Oh."
