About 100 high school seniors will be seeing 2 shows on broadway in may. What ones would be universally liked. I'm trying to steer away from Shrek and see something "better." Thoughts?

I'd say In the Heights as one of them.
Next to Normal and Jersey Boys
"Oh, Calcutta!" and "Falsettos"
Billy Elliot and South Pacific

In the Heights

South Pacific for high school students?!?! Are you freaking kidding me? I'm a theatre major and *I* don't even want to see South Pacific. I sincerely doubt 100 high school students do either.
I would suggest first and foremost, In the Heights. It's hip, fun, and really energetic. On my music department's senior trip to NYC, we saw this and a lot of non-fans of musicals really took to it.
And I'm inclined to say The Lion King as your second show. Next To Normal seems to heavy for a school trip and Hair's content will get you fired. hahaha
I'd say Billy Elliot and In the Heights would probably go over pretty well with high schoolers and they'll be enjoyed by the adults as well.
What kind of students? WHY are they going? I bring my Drama Students so we would be able to see and enjoy different shows than kids that are not predispositioned to enjoying theater.

Maybe it's time to rethink your major.
I wouldn't see Wicked just because if your school is located somewhere near the city, chances are they've already seen it since even a lot of non-theater people have, especially if the teens you're taking are part of your schools drama program.
I would recomend either In The Heights, Next To Normal, Mamma Mia, Hair (you should probably check to make sure the school would allow it though), or Billy Elliot, or Rock of Ages.
Another thing you could do is give them a few options and have the students vote for the two they want to see the most. That way you will be able to please the most students! Hope you all have fun!

Wow thanks. I think In the Heights is a good choice and either N2N or Billy Elliot as the other
I have strong doubts that N2N will still be playing next May. BE most definitely WILL.
I'm gonna say In the Heights and Rock of Ages. I know what high school kids like and they want rock and rap. Everyone will especially enjoy Don't Stop Believin'.
Musialman - if you want to see a show that you, and none of your student will EVER forget - take them to see OUR TOWN Off Broadway.
You will be able to get tickets for cheaper than any show on Broadway, and it is BETTER than any show on Broadway.
Take them to a Broadway musical, then take them to an amazing play Off Broadway.

Sorry....most HS students would NOT appreciate Our Town.
They should, it's very good and accessible.
Have you seen the current Off Broadway production of Our Town DramaMama? It is unlike any Our Town that has ever been produced before, and I have sat in the audience when high school groups have been at the show - they are transfixed. Instead of seeing Broadway musicals multiple times, maybe you should see other shows.
Or I could continue to see N2N....7 times and counting!
