A little more of a biting read (see what I did there?) than the average story on Playbill. I still wish both Dance of the Vampires and Lestat were recorded.

Prob not. We don’t need to make the Vampires a rock band. This ain’t Jennifer’s Body or Queen of the Damned. This show needs to be down right 80s and sexy. If it ain’t broken don’t fix it

To answer the article's question: no.
However, Lestat was recorded, but Elton is keeping it locked away. It gets leaked online every once in a while.

The recoded Broadway cast album has never been leaked online. There are tons of bootlegs and some early promo songs.
Elton John’s original demos for Lestat are also online, too. I especially like the Origin Of The Species number that was cut for Broadway.
I caught it right after it opened and the Palace was only about half-full. The cast was good, but the show was very boring, which was shocking considering the source material. I heard it was much better in San Francisco where it had its tryout.
Didn't see Dance of The Vampires, but I wish I had. Everything I’ve heard suggests it was a fun trainwreck.

There are a bunch of demos online, but the cast recording has never been leaked.

this show is going to be a gigantic bomb
Agree. It will not break the curse. It will only reinforce it with a lot more $$ (30 mil + already) attached to it .

So do you think I should buy my ticket now or wait for it to pop up on discount sites?

It's hard to predict but I don't see a bright future for this production. They should have given an out of town try out first before comitting to Broadway imo. I believe they're relaying on The Outsiders success, but that one got a good WOM in San Diego.
This musical seems to be someone's vanity project, too expensive, risky, and based on a movie not many people is familar with.
I don't know, I liked the music I've heard, and it sounds like it's going to be a big show and in the time of LD screens and tiny revivals, maybe a big splashy musical will be fun. It's a light season for new musicals too maybe it'll drum up a lot of interest and gain some momentum towards awards season.

I saw it in SF where I thought there was a lot of good stuff, some of which I know didn't make it to NY (I think the show the Theatre de Vampire put on about the history of vampires?) My friend who went with me didn't know the books let alone the original movie and didn't have a CLUE what was going on.

I expect this to be a disaster unless this gets spectacular reviews, which I don't see happening, given the source material, which I did enjoy 40 years ago. I just don't see older audiences going to a vampire musical.

I saw ''Lestat'' in San Francisco in 2005 and again on Broadway in 2006, and it's a shame that Elton John has not released the cast album. The show had its book problems, but it also had two gorgeous songs, ''Right Before My Eyes'' and ''Sail Me Away,'' each beautifully sung by Hugh Panaro. When I produced ''The Leading Men II'' concert as a 2007 benefit for Broadway Cares at Birdland, I asked Hugh to sing ''Right Before My Eyes,'' which he graciously did. In his intro to the song, Hugh says he planned to tell some funny stories about Elton, but instead turned the song into a touching tribute to J.C. Sheets, a fellow Broadway actor who was in ''Les Miserables.''

I attended the panel they did at New York ComicCon, and...no, it won't. The songs they demo'd felt flat and lifeless, like a kind of very generic indie sound, and while the cast is clearly talented, it did very little to make me want to spend Broadway prices for it. And that's unfortunate, because I feel like I fall squarely in the target demographic for the show.
It hasn't started yet so the few negative opinions on a few songs don't matter at all.
They are doing everything right in terms of marketing and advertising months before it begins, so I would say it has a solid shot with a great score and cast. We'll see.

What does everyone think of the songs released so far?

The ones with Slash and the one with Patrick Wilson who aren't in the show?
