Do you think we will ever see a Broadway revival of August: Osage County, or was it a one-off, never to be repeated on the same scale as the original production? Or if it was revived would a different approach be taken - more conceptual? I'd love to see a Cherry Jones or Laurie Metcalf take on the matriarch role at some stage in the next five to ten years.
It remains one of the most enjoyable ensemble productions I've ever seen, so I sure hope so. I would love to see either of those talented actors take on Violet.
Considering how much Jeffery Richards (who produced the original) has revived Mamet plays again and again and again, AND newer Letts/Steppenwolf plays, I'm surprised he hasn't revived his own original production.
Or maybe in 4 years, Steppenwolf can mount a 20th Anniversary revival in Chicago.

Sally should've done the movie. A reunion for she and Julia.

Oh wow, I was about to comment that it's an expensive play to mount, and even the acclaimed original production ended in the red. But with a cast like that, a Broadway revival might have a chance. It is certainly a great play.
I saw it three times on Broadway - Deanna Dunagan, Estelle Parsons and Phylicia Rashad. All were fabulous and the play itself is outstanding. I would love to see a revival of this show, but it must be a full scale production - we've all had enough of this bare stage with chairs and turntables trend.
I worked FOH at this production, and getting to watch this show a few times a week was (almost) always a delight! I was in my early 20s, so on those two show days I always dreamt of being elsewhere, especially in the warmer months. However, getting to watch the OBC and eventually Estelle Parsons make a meal of that play is a memory I cherish. I left before Rashad took over, though.
I remember seeing Jessica Lange (with Sam Shepard) attending an early performance of the original run in New York. In fact, everyone came. One of my favorite sightings was Jeff Perry (OBC member) bringing in his mother through the main entrance at the Imperial before a performance. He was accompanied by none other than his ex-wife and everyone's dream casting for this piece, Laurie Metcalf, who was starring in November with Nathan Lane at the time.
And the less said about the movie, the better. I would love to see a revival with a stellar cast!
