Now you have me thinking about other B&S cast members that could play different roles as well.
I'm in the minority of people who really loved the film and thought it was perfectly cast and executed.
After her terrifying, hilarious role in WEAPONS, it dawned on me that I would like to see Amy Madigan as Violet Weston (even just in a regional production).

It's so strange after reading the WEHT Alice Ripley thread. I thought of Deanna Dugan and WEHT her? Then this thread reappears a few hours later?

She still works a lot in TV/film (mostly smaller parts), but doesn't appear to have worked on stage post-Covid. She's 85 now. She's a creature of the Chicago theatre first and foremost, and that's where she returned after AUGUST.
I dimly remember that an industry reading got done maybe a year ago? I think with Carrie Coon as Barbara? but I could be fully making that up. I'd love to see a revival. I saw the national tour twice and still get excited whenever I see Shannon Cochran's name in a playbill. She was a spectacular Barbara.
If I can't have Laurie Metcalf as Violet, why not Amy Morton? She is one of the best actresses we have. I actually would have given her the Tony that year.
And Carrie Coon as Barbara, of course.

With Deirdre O'Connell as Violet!

I'm pretty sure that the original production - despite its accolades and respectable run - ended up in the red. It's a long play with a big cast, and likely has an unusually high weekly "nut" for a non-musical. I can't imagine it being on Broadway again unless it's produced by one of the non-profit theaters for a limited run. I absolutely loved the original Broadway production though.
The original production recouped in five months.
Edit: this same discussion apparently happened two years ago in this thread.

OMG THANK YOU! My husband and I went to see Weapons yesterday, and I was like, 'Who the f*ck is this brilliant nutcase!?' We got to talking after and I forgot to look up the cast list. Amy Madigan! Genius. She'd be a stellar Violet and good Christ was she insane in Weapons.
