What are some of the worst performances you've ever seen? Let's try to keep it before 2005. There was one posted here a while ago with a guy rambling in about nothing. They said the performance sucked but the show was great. So if you can pos the name and a video!
I mean, I think there's a pretty unanimous opinion out there on the performance by the cast of the recent Godspell revival.
This is pre-2005, but when I saw Wicked on the Tony's, before I had seen the show on myself, all I could think of was, "Why is this girl yelling at me and why are people paying so much money to have her yell at them?"
The worst Tonys performance ever happens during the worst Tonys broadcast ever which happens every year. And why keep it before 2005? And I think the clip you were talking about was Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death. The guy wasn't rambling about nothing.

Well recently I agree, Godspell was rough, as was that Young Frankenstein business a few years ago, as well as Faith Prince singing that sad song from A Catered Affair the same year. I am usually a huge fan of hers, however it just seemed as though no one wanted to be there...
But if we are going pre 2005 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnd5KUhT6dc I pick this gem,it looks tired. And such a by the numbers Peter Pan presentation, it kind of makes me long for the epic fail where the nursery set falls over... at least it makes it interesting!
and call me a sap but I tear up everytime I watch the animals start in on Lion King... i know the whole show isn't everyone's cup of tea but that first few minutes holy wow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfBvzs62sUg
I know you said pre-'05, but I think the 2010 performance of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES sucked. Maybe it's just becuase I hated the show. Also, this year's performance of FOLLIES. But, again, I did hate that show too, so that may have had something to do with it. Also, I know you said worst, but I must mention 2 of my favorites. This year's NEWSIES. I just love the show and "Seize The Day" is my favorite song from the show. I can't remember what year it was from (either '10 or '11?) But HOW TO SUCCEED with Daniel Radcliffe "Brotherhood of Man". It blew me away. I never got a chance to see the actual show. I very much regret that.
WHAT is with the threads that just want to talk about the negative? Worst Tony perf. Worst Fans. Worst Shows to do in amateur theater.
WTF.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I also really hated Follies on the Tonys this year. It was a bad choice, and just seemed so awkward. The Porgy and Bess actors did a good job, but the songs were strung together poorly.
Yes, Buddy's number from "Follies" did seem out of place and completely out of context. Too bad the show wasn't still running and "Woman In The Mirror" or "Beautiful Girls" wasn't performed. It would have been so expensive to fly in pretty much the whole cast for either of those 2 numbers.
Gotta go with Zeta-Jones' odd "Send in the Clowns" by way of The Exorcist. No excuses about how she was sick (it wasn't the singing that was bad) or didn't know where to look. It was just bad. It was bad on TV and it would be been bad on stage.
I actually like Catherine Zeta-Jones a lot, but that performance was just...no.
I absolutely LOVE "Follies", but I do agree that the performance at the Tony's this year was most definitely not the best. The should have done a different more "show stopping" number.
I also didn't like any of the numbers from the 2010 Tony's (or any show that season for that matter...) except for I did enjoy La Cage Aux Folles.
I thought the 2010 Tonys were the worst overall in terms of performance- most of them were pretty dreadful. The only ones that I remember liking at all were La Cage and the brief performance from Everyday Rapture.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
BackRow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who disliked the Evita performance. In fact, it almost made my lose interest in the production as a whole. Everyone I happened to be watching with this year couldn't stop cooing over Ricky Martin's "charm" and how he "oozed charisma." Maybe I just didn't get it, or maybe I was watching a completely different performance.
