This is a mammoth closing announcement. Back in May, the plan to reopen Le Rêve was going to be the model everyone else was copying. Now, after 15 years and more than 6,000 performances, it's not reopening at all, with 275 cast and crew are out of work, and it's likely only the beginning.
"As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent physical distancing requirements for which an end-date cannot be predicted, but are necessary to keep our guests safe, we have been forced to close the award-wining show ‘Le Rêve — The Dream.’"

Sad. If this is happening to a show that was extremely popular and did well sales wise, what's going to happen to many of the lesser shows that sell discounted tickets? My visit that was suppose to happen in June, with the exception of KA, which I'm not sure how well they do, was mainly seeing struggling shows like Celestia at the Stratosphere and Opium.
Sad to hear it is closing. It was one Of the first shows we saw when we started going to Las Vegas for vacation. It will only be the first of many to become a casualty. See no way I can reopen. Forsee a lot of solo performers replacing these shows. It will be a long time before Vegas returns to anything resembling what it looked like pre shutdown .
Read somewhere downtown is really changing and it should be really something if it continues its revitalization

Downtown is definitely being revitalized with the huge Circa Las Vegas resort opening in October. I agree the production shows may struggle for a bit, but I think Vegas will rebound pretty quickly when all is said and done (at least in comparison to other major cities). People will still go to gamble, there are still family-friendly events to bring the kids to, not to mention two new or relatively new professional sports teams that once the sports world rebounds will bring in lots and lots of folks. So it may look slightly different, but I don't foresee the same major changes there that I would in New York, LA, etc.
You think people are going to have money for Las Vegas when all of this is over? For the gambling? Hilariously expensive food? Luxurious hotels? You think people are going to get on flights to get there? You think international tourists are in a hurry to return to anywhere in America given the way we've handled everything and how we continue to handle everything?
Las Vegas is almost entirely dependent on tourist dollars. I don't see this kind of extravagant tourism rebounding for most people for quite some time. I certainly hope so. But. Given the facts we're currently working with it doesn't seem likely.

Well, they already are, which is my point. Obviously revenue is down from last year, but as an example, in June when only about a third of the casinos had reopened, all of which at around 25% capacity, gambling revenue was only down around 50% from last year. That may sound like a lot, but factoring in that they were operating at about 1/12 of the potential capacity they had a year ago, only a 50% drop clearly shows that it's still high in demand. And other gambling markets are already seeing folks returning in waves with huge wait lists and filling to max capacity. Yes, Vegas is more dependent on tourism (especially international travel), but whether people have lost money or not, folks are still coming.
While this announcement is sad, I will add that a 15 year run with over 6,000 performances is quite spectacular. I hope all involved move on to other projects in due time and feel good about the work they did to keep the show going for as long as it did.
I bet the weekly running costs were insane. A quick Google search tells me that there were about 250 people in the cast and crew.

Just looked at my souvenir program from seeing it back in November. There are 90 headshots (cast and musicians), and the crew list is pretty extensive, so 250 sounds like a pretty accurate number. Now, whether all 250 were employed full-time or not, I couldn't say (I'd guess that at least some credited with the crew are part-time/subs), but still a lot of people. None of the Cirque and Cirque-style shows are cheap to mount or run, that's for sure.
On a side note, I did notice that the Cirque shows are all showing tickets available starting in late September. Not sure if this is just a hold-over from the original anticipated reopening dates and those dates will be removed from the MGM Resorts site or if there's an actual plan in place to actually resume performances in a little less than a month.
With this and the Cirque Du Soleil announcement, another reason not to go to Vegas, which is the self styled ‘entertainment capital of the world,’ where? Broadway tried and failed to land on the strip, with some top shows. I want a vacation a bit more than pumping slots all day.

Any idea what will replace this? Surely a giant theater with a giant pool won't sit dormant for too long.

Just got back from there two weeks ago. Many of the shows are not selling. They are not offering discounts. The booths have reopened yet none of the Caesars shows as well as others are participating. Saw a big splashy musical called Extravaganza and only had about 30% seats sold on a Friday night. Had bought my ticket prior to booths reopening. Overpayed, but once there, found out were not participating in the discounts so overpaying was the only way to see it. Also most of the venues had no in person box office staff to purchase a ticket. You had to go to Ticketmaster or other online service for purchase. Chose to go to bed early on my last night then deal with the hassle. So to answer your question...don't know what is going into that theater.

There will be a new show without water sometime soon.
I guess they are waiting for a better covid- situation before they start running it..

Same type of thing happened when Siegfried and Roy had to close. .As soon as Roy had the incident with the Tiger backstage they knew early on Roy would either be out for a while or he would never recover. The story goes that the crew and all those associated with it were given 10 minutes to clean out their lockers,as they knew he,would not be returning.
The show was great but when you have an encounter with one of them watch out. Some are as big as a Buick .
Believe a video of the show can be seen in YouTube

I hope that CdS is cirque du soliel. Yes, they, are selling and O very rarely if at all discounts. I did see Mystere (again) on this trip and purchased a ticket through their website with a 35% off discount. My performance was only half sold a couple of weeks prior. But as the performance got closer, many more tickets were sold. These shows were also not at the booth. If you click on any night of Extravaganza or WOW (at the Rio), even the night of show, there are minimal tickets sold. I wanted to see WOW on my last night, but the booth employee was the one who told me there was no in person box office employee. I would have to deal with Ticketmaster. I chose not to.

Hey, I've always been indifferent about this one.

I was in callbacks to be a singer for it, and then Covid, so was just curious.
I drove through Las Vegas on a recent trip and it felt pretty busy, but I don't know shows like Wow and Extravaganza (both awful names... like calling something fun...) I'd think Vegas would survive on Cirque and concerts for awhile.
Sad they'll be losing the water though. It seemed like a really cool show. Wonder what Cirque has in the kitchen.

Ripped Man, Extravaganza was a huge mishmash of showgirls, acrobatic acts from America's Got Talent, the lady who shot the bow/arrow from America's Got Talent, singing, dancing, holograms of dead stars....You name it , it had it. I enjoyed it for the most part, because it wasn't crowded and the usher let me move away from others since there was alot of empty seats. Nobody in front of me or to the sides. I bought it in advance thinking it would be a sell out and I was wrong. Wasn't worth what I paid. WOW is the same similar type of show, but utilizes water. (from what I understand) And yes, there was a ton of people and it was very busy. It was my last trip there. No real interest to go back.

I thought I saw pictures in an article posted somewhere where they have already demolished the space.
That is so sad. wow. Guess there won't be a show there for a awhile.
Any idea what they are doing now with this space?
