I'm looking to get some new Christmas cd sung by Broadway performers. I don't know of many because I've never really thought about it before. The only one I really know of is Carols for a Cure, this year's. What are some of your favorites?
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I like Michael Ball's version of 'As Long As There's Christmas' with Elaine Paige and also 'Driving Home For Christmas'. My favourite Christmas cd will always be Carpenters' 'Christmas Portrait'. Played it last night for the first time so Christmas has officially started.
I have to add my praise to Michael Ball's Christmas album. For one by various Broadway performers, I really love Broadway Cares Home For The Holidays. My favorite is the Liz Callaway & Ann Hampton Callaway version of O Holy Night.
I have to say that the number one Christmas cd for me, bar none, would have to be Broadway Cares HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. It's a virual who's who of Broadway, expertly arranged and produced. There is simply no better holiday cd for me. From Liza and Alan Cumming's "Baby, It's Cold Outside" all the way through to Audra McDonald's "White Christmas" (with Jason Robert Brown on piano) it is simply superb. It's so good I oftentimes listen to it throughout the year. This year I promised myself I wouldn't listen to it from January 1 until the day after Thanksgiving and I played it at 12:01 on Thansgiving night. It's seriously like a drug, its THAT addictive. I would also like to add that Adam Pascal's "New York State of Mind" is not traditionally a Christmas song, it works amazingly well here, and is by far my favorite of his recorded performances. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended.
Love Michael Ball's Christmas cd as well but another favorite is Gary Morris' "Every Christmas"! He played Broadway as well. He has a beautiful voice!!!!!
BTW Pgenre is Home For The Holidays availble through local stores??

Booby- does "A Broadway Christmas" look like the Chorus Line thing on the front?
Thanks for all the suggestions!

Some stores carry it and others do not. I know most of the stores in the NYC area carry it, but I'm not sure about outside of that. It basically just depends on where you live. I'm sure B&N would be happy to order it for you if you must buy it at a brick&morter location.
Either way, get it by any means neccessary! You will not be disappointed (plus all the proceeds go to charity).
I also love my copy of Brian D'arcy james' christmas cd: from christmas eve to christmas morn. It has some traditional songs and some more jazzy tunes.
O where to start - Broadway Cares Home for the Holidays BCEFA Carols for a Cure (2003, 2005) Broadway Christmas (Varese/fynsworth) Just in Time for Christmas - Nancy LaMott (very special) Christmas - Amy Grant (the first album) The Gift Goes On - Sandi Patti A Christmas Celebration - Kathleen Battle This Christmastide - Jessye Norman Christmas Stays the Same - Linda Eder Christmas - Michael Ball Christmas Songs - Mel Torme (Telarc)*Really a great disc Christmas Memories - La Streisand Ann Hampton Callway's Christmas album (terrific!) Great Joy - Bway Inspirational Voices (sh-k-boom) INCREDIBLE!!! Save the Children (Bway/London casts from late 80's) - 2CD and hard to find but has solos by Sarah Brightman, Frances Ruffelle, Elaine Paige, Colm Wilkinson, Claire Moore and Michael Ball.
There are many more I love (Boston Pops, Thomas Hampson, Manhattan Transfer, Ally McBeal, Harry Connick Jr., John Denver/Muppets) but these will probably be in the highest rotation this year. There's been rumor that Bernadette Peters was going to do one, but I haven't heard of anything lately. Hope she does. Enjoy!
