I do NOT think that Michele deserved it.
orangeskittles:
Obviously you did not read the part of my words that you quoted.
"I'm tired of people saying that Lea Michele should have been kept in the Featured category, because the fact of the matter is, she is the female lead in SPRING AWAKENING and it would not have made sense to put the female lead in the Featured category.
They wouldn't "put her" in the Featured category, she WAS in the Featured category. If she were the unquestionable lead, they wouldn't have had to petition the committee to have her considered for lead actress in the first place."

CALM DOWN!
Becoz as much as i love LBB I did not think she was actually getting nominated, so I would not have complained when she did not get it.
as to Lea...it is a shame and while I thought she was great...this year I just do not think her performance was good enough to give her a nomination.
She's very pretty and sings well. Beyond that, I was underwhelmed by her Wendla. Granted, quite a bit of that is fault with the material -- I felt that only Gallagher rose above the textual weaknesses and delivered a complete characterization. Michele's performance is more than adequate with what she's given, but there's no way you can compare her to (most of) the other actresses who carry their respective shows. It's not her fault.
It's the role that wins the awards, not just the actor
If it was any other season, she would have probably been nominated.
So did Lea, Ashley and Steph go out and have a Girl's cry in their Beer night?
You think they would get along?
"You think they would get along?"
No.
Tell girl.....
Is there a story?

No, you wrote it:
"it would not have made sense to put the female lead in the Featured category."
they did go for beer..i was with...we also had pizza...and went to that place where they throw paint at you. it was a blast.
i am equally as distraught.
though we all knew with the other bigger names, she probably wouldn't get a nod. and obviously politics have something to do with everything.
i mean i love debra monk just as much as the next girl, she's great, but seriously.. you all know she was not better than lea michele in her rather small performance. if she wasn't a known name.. i really don't think she would have been nominated. which is unfortunate.
lea is one of the most talented females i've seen in a while.. and i argue that her role as wendla is one of the most taxing roles on right now.. she really should have been acknowledged. =/

Why should she get a nod? Because she's pretty talented for someone her age? Fabulous. So are half the people on those Star search shows.
Compared to the other women in her category, she is hardly deserving of a nod.

Taxing?
I should say not. Vocally, it's quite a breeze. She hardly belts, and there's nothing at all too high.
She sounds fantastic on the material, but this is a walk in the park.
Compared to what McDonald's and Ebersole's characters deal with onstage, Wendla - or I should say the way it's written and the way she performs it, is all very surface-y.
I'm not saying she's bad, but I don't think she deserved a nod, especially in this year with such killer female performances.

LostLeander said I wanted to say in a much kinder and much more accurate way.
She certainly is far from bad. But she is in a league of roles and performers far above her.
For the same reason that Erin Davies, Heather Laws, Barbara Walsh, Natalie Cortez, Celia Keenan-Bolger etc didn't get a nom...too many amazing women, not enough nomination slots.

Happens.

Hold it. So you believe that EVERYONE on this board thinks Michele is giving a better performance than Monk? dramaqueen, it IS possible people didn't like her performance and preferred Monk's.
And, as LostLeander said, Wendla is hardly taxing compared to other roles on Broadway.
If the amazing ladies of 'Company' can be not nominated, then Lea Michele can be not nominated. The nominations have happened, we're all pleased for the nominations we agree with and disgruntled at the ones we don't, we kinda get the picture. Let's moving on desu! ^_^
