Can you name some regular movies that feature musical numbers or singalongs just for the hell of it?
I can name some: "BILLY MADISON" (Yes, I will go back to school/and achieve victory/No man will take what my father has built/Unless that man is MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!) "BEETLEJUICE" (They always break into Harry Belafonte music) "FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF" (Almost every character in it sings Danke Schon by Wayne Newton, as well as Ferris lip-synching to Twist and Shout. Priceless.)
"How could she just suddenly, completely disappear into thin water?" - The Little Mermaid
Austin Powers 3 had quite a few "musical numbers."
"Say A Little Prayer" from My Best Friend's Wedding.
"Tiny Dancer" from Almost Famous
"We Are The Champions" from D2: The Mighty Ducks
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" from Stepmom
Tons more, but this is fun to think about
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
"Build Me Up Buttercup" in There's Something About Mary
The songs from Hair at the end of The 40 Year Old Virgin
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man
Speaking of Austin Powers...Burt Bacharach appeared and did a couple of songs in the first two movies. In the second, he did "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" from Promises, Promises with Elvis Costello.
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man
Cabaret, JCS, Cats, Oklahoma, Yentl, Funny Girl, South Pacific, Grease, Evita, Gypsy, Mame, and A Chorus Line.
I love that movie so much.
"Who says you can't bend over backwards and eat bugs if you want to? I guess the bugs would probably say you can't do that that, but assuming that they are willing and consenting bugs, then there's no problem. Let's wig out eating bugs."
-RuPaul
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
-Felicia Finley-
In response to Time Suckage: Airplane -- Yes, the infamous "River of Jordan" scene! As well as "Staying Alive"
Of course, Princess Diaries 2 -- an aria, a bit of G&S, and a deep-voiced Julie Andrews singing with Raven-Symone (and she still sounds good, too!)
Charlie's Angels -- I remember there was this German polka number, but obviously what you're thinking is the "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel" dance number
HEY, WHA'HAPPENED TO "A MIGHTY WIND"?!! All the songs in that are top-notch! Love those big time. My favorites are "Fare Away," "Old Joe's Place," "A Mighty Wind," "When You're Next To Me," and "Loco Man".
There's also a swingin' dance number in "Dudley Do-Right" as well as a song from "Rose-Marie".
And of course, all the musical numbers in both SISTER ACT films, most of which were arranged by Marc Shaiman (my favorites being "Ain't No Mountain" and the "Mother Of All Medleys" in the second film).
BTW, what I'm thinking are songs from films that aren't NECESSARILY musicals. So if there's a surprise musical number from a film that isn't supposed to be a musical, keep 'em comin'.
"How could she just suddenly, completely disappear into thin water?" - The Little Mermaid
"What's Up, Doc?" Streisand sings "You're the Top" "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" ("I've Written A Letter To Daddy") "Blazing Saddles"- Madeline Kahn's "I'm Tired" for example. "Pillow Talk"- Doris and Rock sing at the bar "Get Over It"- "Love Will Keep Us Together" opening for example.
"I've lost everything! Luis, Marty, my baby with Chris, Chris himself, James. All I ever wanted was love." --Sheridan Crane "Passions"

"Housework is like bad sex. Every time I do it, I swear I'll never do it again til the next time company comes."--"Lulu"
from "Can't Stop The Music"

"When the right doors didn't open for him, he went through the wrong ones" - "Sweet Bird of Youth"

"Passions" is uncancelled! See NBC.com for more info.
"Smart! And into all those exotic mystiques -- The Kama Sutra and Chinese techniques. I hear she knows more than seventy-five. Call me tomorrow if you're still alive!"
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" came to mind right away, (but B12b beat me to it!) and off the same bat, the 1971 "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Even animated films get in on this act. "Shrek" and "Shrek 2" come to mind, especially "Shrek 2" with the performance by Jennifer Saunders. Also, the original Disney "Cinderella" and "Snow White" are full of musical numbers. So is "Alice in Wonderland" and "Fantasia" is all music, to name a few.
"And the postman sighed as he scratched his head, you really rather thought she ought to be dead..."
"What I Say" from Tommy Boy Almost anything in Moulin Rouge "Hey Pachuco," "Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You," and "Cuban Pete" from THE MASK "Shake A Tail Feather" - Blues Brothers (ALL-OUT CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE ROUTINE HERE!) "Somebody To Love" by Queen - Ella Enchanted
"How could she just suddenly, completely disappear into thin water?" - The Little Mermaid
I'd be remiss if I didn't include my favorite film of all time on this list:
MAGNOLIA
The story is based around a few songs by Aimee Mann and they feature prominently in the movie, as well as the major cast members singing along to "Wise Up" at the emotional climax of the film. If you haven't seen the film: do. Its long ( 3 hours and 15 minutes) but well worth the time.
AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER. Deborah Kerr plays a night club singer (dubbed by Marni Nixon). She sings the title song and one entitled "Tomorrowland." Then after she gets hit by a car,she becomes a music teacher and sings some cutesy song with her students. I think it's called "Tiny Scout" but I'm not sure. I do love that sappy movie.
Well in terms of Broadway you have the great 70's musical spoof in Death Becomes Her with Maryll Streep in a musical called Songbird. Its a great moment right in the beginning and very funny.
Also you have the INFAMOUS spoof of Rent in Team America: World Police. Great spoof of a terrible musical!
The movie Marci X also had a few very funny songs.
"The hallmark of aristocracy is responsibility. Oh brother, that got me, that did me in!"
BUNDLE OF JOY. Eddie Fisher croons a couple of tunes in that one. He sang beautifully but an actor he's not. Starred opposite his then wife Debbie Reynolds who is the only reason to sit through this bomb.
