Yes, Dame, well said. Agree entirely. As for C****onay, what? We can't say HARD on this site?
If I went to the theater and the person next to me smelled of maryjuana cigarettes, I would call the police immediately and have them arrested. There is enough evil in the world without people flaunting their illegal drug puffing ways in front of decent theater going folks.
Just the thought of it makes me sick.
Jordan, I really hope you're joking.
Well Jordan I suggest you stay home then. And I think the police would arrest you for wasting their time. They have better things to do.
Maryjuana cigarettes are a gateway drug that lead to incest, bestiality, homsexuality and theft.
No. But your profile pic takes me to another nastier level.
drugs AND nasty thoughts? Just the thought makes me want to light up!
Jordan......medical marijuana and cigs are legal in some states, and are used for other reasons than to just " get high". Calling the cops cause someone smelled of weed would be irresponsible and a waist of the police's time. They would probably laugh at you for calling!
No, they would thank me and probably deputize me.
Couldn't agree more with DAME and orangeskittles.
And lol, Jordan.
And for those of you saying that if you need to get high to see a show then the show is not worth seeing....you clearly have never been high or at least seen a show high and I must admit I do feel a little bad for you :-P It's funny because it's a known fact that so many playwrights, composers, et al are or were smokers, starting with everyone's much beloved God Stephen Sondheim who smoked like the best of them in his prime.
ray, no need to feel bad for me. When I was younger and got high I would sometimes go to the movies when I was high but never to the theatre. I really didn't like being in public when I was high. And quite honestly, it didn't enhance anything. I have friends that, to this day, wake and bake and smoke throughout the day. It has become the norm for them and I figure they are just constantly high or it no longer really affects them like it used to so they smoke pot like cigarettes. I couldn't do that. As far as playwrights and composers smoking, that really has nothing to do with sitting next to someone in a theater who is reeking of pot. JMO
Wow! I love that this thread made some folks so angry.
Now I know who the whiners are.
I don't think people are whining it is just a good conversation about what is annoying at the theater. I am not "whining".
The OP asked a simple question and then got himself a new hole ripped open:
Shame on you.
You should be ashamed.
I think you and this person were both out of place.
You're both wrong and rude.
I'd be pissed at both things.
Most obnoxious thread I've ever read on here. Both behaviors are disgusting.
They're both inexcusable, but I personally hate the smell of weed, so I'd say that's worse.
both are wrong and rude.
no offense, but instead of using your money to buy theatre tickets, maybe you should get some help.
I mean, really! You would think he asked, "Would it be worse if I kicked your dog or your mother?"
Dog, definitely dog.
LOL
If you kicked my dog, I would rip your balls off and shove them down your throat. If you kicked my mother, she would rip your balls off and shove them down your throat. And than I'd hunt you down and finish what she started.
I'm not one to censor pot usage considering the fact that I don't feel it is as bad for you as the powers that be do. But, that is neither here nor there. I do feel that there are public venues in which pot consumption is fine and not that big a deal. However, I wouldn't consider a Broadway show to be one of those places.
He never said he lit up at the show, Winston. He did it before hand.
I wouldn't consider a Broadway show to be a place where nascar fans could get wasted off cheap beer while singing Whitesnake, but never the less here we are.
I rather like this thread. It's fun to play the "Would you rather..?" of theatre etiquette.
Would you rather...
Sit next to someone who is eating a bag chips or trying to suck the last three drops out of their soda?
Uncageg, you know I didn't mean you Sorry if I offended you though as it wasn't my intention. I guess I wasn't talking so much about the smell as the way people here acting with their pearl-clutching attitude, which is why I brought up the fact some of our great theater artists are/were smokers.
I was really only joking re feeling bad for people, and while I think smoking can make an experience not necessarily better (though depending on the show, I'd argue it can be) but enjoyable in a different way, I also think that the high you get from watching a good Broadway show is enough to not have to drink, smoke, or do anything else, this happened to be during the HAIR revival for example where afterwards I fell so incredibly euphoric and high just from the show itself...hopefully that didn't come off as corny as it reads :-/
Would you rather be interviewed by Corine or have a root canal?
Root canal, because I'd get novocaine, laughing gas, or at least a shoe to bite on.
"I wouldn't consider a Broadway show to be a place where nascar fans could get wasted off cheap beer while singing Whitesnake, but never the less here we are."
That is one of the funniest things I've read it a while.
And too true.
I have a perscription for medical marijuana, so I'll smoke it whereever I like, and if you don't like it, that's tough. But then, I use a pocket vaporizer and it only smells like buring wheat.
Besides, edibles are much more effctive and don't smell.
Root canal.
